    Salaams all,

So who is only mature at forty????

Qala innee oreedu an onkihakaihda ibnatayya hatayni AAala anta/juranee thamaniya hijajin fa-in atmamta AAashranfamin AAindika wama oreedu an ashuqqa AAalayka satajiduneein shaa Allahu mina alssaliheena

He said "I intend to wed one of these my daughters to thee, on condition that thou serve me for eight years; but if thou complete TEN YEARS, it will be (grace) from thee. But I intend not to place thee under a difficulty thou wilt find me, indeed, if Allah wills, one of the righteous."

Story of Moses in three ayahs?.

Wa-ith anjaynakum min alifirAAawna yasoomoonakum soo-a alAAathabi yuqattiloona abnaakumwayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaonmin rabbikum AAatheemun

And remember We rescued you from Pharaoh's people, who afflicted you with the worst of penalties, who slew your male children and saved alive your females in that was a momentous trial from your Lord.
    142.
WawaAAadna moosa thalatheenalaylatan waatmamnaha biAAashrin fatamma meeqaturabbihi arbaAAeena laylatan waqala moosa li-akheehiharoona okhlufnee fee qawmee waaslih walatattabiAA sabeela almufsideena

We appointed for Moses thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten (more) thus was completed the term (of communion) with his Lord, forty nights. And Moses had charged his brother Aaron (before he went up) "Act for me amongst my people Do right, and follow not the way of those who do mischief."
    143.
Walamma jaa moosalimeeqatina wakallamahu rabbuhu qala rabbiarinee anthur ilayka qala lan taraneewalakini onthur ila aljabali fa-iniistaqarra makanahu fasawfa taranee falammatajalla rabbuhu liljabali jaAAalahu dakkan wakharra moosasaAAiqan falamma afaqa qala subhanakatubtu ilayka waana awwalu almu/mineena

When Moses came to the place appointed by Us, and his Lord addressed him, He said "O my Lord! show (Thyself) to me, that I may look upon thee." Allah said "By no means canst thou see Me (direct); But look upon the mount; if it abide in its place, then shalt thou see Me." When his Lord manifested His glory on the Mount, He made it as dust. And Moses fell down in a swoon. When he recovered his senses he said "Glory be to Thee! to Thee I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe."

Wawassayna al-insanabiwalidayhi ihsanan hamalat-hu ommuhukurhan wawadaAAat-hu kurhan wahamluhu wafisaluhuthalathoona shahran hatta ithabalagha ashuddahu wabalagha arbaAAeena sanatan qala rabbiawziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAalawalidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahuwaaslih lee fee thurriyyatee innee tubtuilayka wa-innee mina almuslimeena

We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents In pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth. The carrying of the (child) to his weaning is (a period of) thirty months. At length, when he reaches the age of full strength and attains forty years, he says, "O my Lord! Grant me that I may be grateful for Thy favour which Thou has bestowed upon me, and upon both my parents, and that I may work righteousness such as Thou mayest approve; and be gracious to me in my issue. Truly have I turned to Thee and truly do I bow (to Thee) in Islam."

Just a summary of what ?I think is in the above ayah?s.

    2827
Is telling us Moses spent a term of another 10 years.
    7142
Moses spent 30 years , years of affliction by his people (7141), and then another 10 years in median before his lord spoke to him and sent him to see pharaoh with his brother Aaron On seeing pharaoh Moses was afraid and wanted his lords help ? and saw his opponent demised with pharos own men taking the side of Moses.

    4615
We have enjoined on men kindness to his parents-????..(then follows the example of Moses)??.30 years of suffering by his people and another 10 years in median making forty years before he spoke to his lord and took office to free his people.

So it isn?t that we are only mature at forty but it was the example of Moses.

    I think.

    Salaams to you.

      Peace,
Indeed Moses too became mature at 40 and the OT i believe even mentions him receiving the ten commandments at the age of forty. GOD Bless!

        Peace,

Throughout scriptures, the number forty stands for 'special'. In the bible we can see it with forty nights and days being used every where, with John going in the desert for 40 days, Jesus secluding for 40 days and so on. As for the 40 in the Quran, i also believe it has special meaning, but it is interresting that our physiology changes after the age of 40.

The most intruiging factor is the age of 40 being called mature. Here is a professor on the psychological and physiologicall age of the human being

"Overall quantity of stored knowledge in the mind of an individual reaches a peak at age thirty-nine and after that it gradually declines"
(A.C.Guyton, Physiology of the Human Body, 6th Ed, page 207)

So the quantity of your knowledge stagnates after 40. So to keep your Nafs evolving into a higher level, only the truth can help you, which is believing in God and the next stage in the next universe. If they don't believe this, their knowledge will keep declining and more logic will be lost(see how the last verse ends of 4618...)
