Irshad Manji anyone ?

I browsed her book and communicated with her via mail and phone conversations.
Irshad is not a scholar, but a young journalist. Her book contains many good points, mostly diagnosis, but she falls short in providing a theological solution. She does not appear to have faith in the Quran; thus, she seems to be a "Muslim" just because of her country of origin, or her ancestors.
Once she offered me to join or lead an organization she was contemplating. But, after learning her position on Palestinian and Israeli conflict, I found out that she sees the conflict through the lens of Zionist propaganda. So, I did not accept her offer.
However, if she has not sold her soul to certain interest groups, I believe that the differences can be reconciled through face-to-face discussion with her.

She doesn't garner much credibility up here (Canada). She's been on quite a few TV debates with other Canadian Muslim scholars like Mr. Badawi..and she gets blown out of the water everytime. I personally have a dislike for her opinions 'cause I don't think she really knows what she's talking about. Sounds more like she's writing apologetics for her own feel-good-about-my-lesbianism. I dunno. Ain't judging..but i dont like her.

I don't think its easy to escape artificial elements in an analysis of 'islam' in the world. Repeatedly, the analyst is plugged with the notions of the 3 semitic religions. One QURANIC speaker here in London actually called Islam 'the youngest semitic religion'. My eyes nearly fell out out of my head upon hearing that, but there you go! This is how deep this myth has penetrated our collective unconscious.
The sad thing about it is, al-quraan is the only book i've encountered which actually repudiates all external attempts which attempts to interfere in the tranmission of the message and it builds its own foundations of interpretation.
People like Irshad Manji and other detractors can only get away if those who stand by al-quraan fail to use al-quraan. Be very wary of 'scholarship' without evidence. God doesn't grant PhD's !
