How much control do you have?
-
Peace all,
I just wanted to bring up this topic from an older conversation we had a while ago ( http//www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=5998.0 ). I know some believe that they have control over their death, atleast to some degree... example... if you constantly smoke and/or do dangerous stunts you're likely to die quicker than one who doesn't. Some believe that they have everything to do with what happens to them... example... if you got into an accident, you (or the other person) bears 100% full responsibility.
I would appreciate if you could give your opinion/understanding as to how much control you have of your life, health, wealth, work... anything. It doesn't have to be according to the two examples, just any aspect of your life.
Thanks.

Peace Zein,
Small changes in start up conditions can result in very divergent paths. Imagine two drops of rain falling on top of the mountain, one particle flowing down the left and one down the right. They were very close to each other but as the system worked the end result was very different.
I don't believe things are as linear as one thinks. Only humans recognise and accept patterns that are familiar and fool themselves fwiw. All one can do is improve the probability of survival and may not be able to prevent the preverbial "red bus".

Peace Bro Zenje
I believe we only have control over our lives to a certain extent. I can plan a trip next month, make all the reservations, take all the necessary precautions of alternative routes, back-up plans etc and still never make it to my destination. I remember when i was studying abroad in Egypt for some time, there was nothing I wanted more than to stay there. Problem after problem kept arising making it more and more difficult for me to stay. All signs pointed out of Egypt and it was only when i stopped resisting and started moving with the tides that i got some peace back into my life. I'm not saying anything is cut and dry. There may be certain aspects of life we have full control over while others we could beat our heads against the wall and absolutely nothing will change it. I find believing that God has a Master Plan for us always helps me cope with unfortunate turns in life that are impossible to avoid or change in any way.
But what is your take on the issue?
Peace All

Concerning Death - how much control we have.
Salam, there's 70 verses containing the word death, but i think 4 of these are enough
3145 Nor can a soul die except by Allah's leave, the term being fixed as by writing.
3154 ???."Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death";?.?
478 "Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!"
661 He is the irresistible, (watching) from above over His worshippers, and He sets guardians over you. At length, when death approaches one of you, Our angels take his soul, and they never fail in their duty.
Nevertheless, how we live our lives still influence our later life, to some extent.
we don't eat healthy or excercise, in our elderly-days, we'll suffer many diseases until our time to die come.
If someone does many dangerous stunts, well, i guess there's higher probability that person will die in a stunt accident. ...
Remember Joseph story? He received a dream foretelling him of his future power? I think one of the lessons from that story is If God has decided a destination for us, regardless what path we walk on, the destination or the end result will not change. In other words, God is powerful.
But i don't think everything are determined by God though, example, our eternal "home". ehehe
May God increase us in knowledge. Salam.

Yesterday while reading Calvin and Hobbes I came across a strip that made me think of this thread. it went something like Calvin walking upto a plant in his garden with a watering can
Calvin So you want some water huh? Well I've got a big can of it right here! It's up to me to decide if you get water or not! I control your fate! Your very lives are in my hands! Without me you're as good as dead! Without me, you don't...then it starts raining pretty hard.
I think that sums it up.

Once the TIME ,comes ....you Go,,, no matter how careful you are
But the reverse is not true,
if you are careless and reckless , you might go early,,,,,,, because seeing your performance the "TIME " may be readjusted in the yearly reveiw of MASTER PLAN, (after all certain weightage of the rules sent down to us also have to be applied)
Occasionally in certain cases , if you are" A MUST" in an important happenning in future, you may be blessed with a few thousand extra angels( as enhanced security catering to your dangerous attitudes)

Peace all,
Thanks for your replies. Very interesting thoughts.
Personally I believe that the choices we make in life are in our control. What's handed to us, on the other hand to make that choice is not. Boost gave a good example of planning something and it not working out. You can push, shove, jump over hoops, but if it's not going to happen, it's not going to happen. I think we, as humans, take a lot of things for granted, and in most cases lead ourselves to believe that it is because of a skill we have that we've achieved something or other.
Which brings me to a question, still on the same subject... How much influence does God have over our daily lives? Is it an active or mostly passive role?
It's a little late... so I'll leave it here for now.

How much influence does God have over our daily lives? Is it an active or mostly passive role?
Peace,
As I understand this influence is in the universal laws around us. If we think we're going to float in the air defying gravity, we need to understand GODs law to overcome it. If you floated defying gravity you'd be still under the influence of GOD. There is no getting away. But, notice you can only change how you respond to things. You can respond in kind at a verbal attack or think the person maybe having a bad day and ignore it. There is no automatic cause and effect, but a range of propabilities there fwiw.
