    hi guys,
thats an intersting point of view and sounds quite logical too!
yeah, we cant rely on how people interpreted the message given to them 1400 yrs ago. they could have only done to the best of their knowledge.
we need to understand the message ourselvesat the present time, to our best.

      peace truth,

There are many other verses that fall into the same category. Many of those are examples used in the scientific hermeneutic approach to the reading - the division between two bodies of water, the expanding heavens etc. which to the people of time probably similarly meant nothing
      .
please tell me the ch and verse no as I would like to see them.

      take care.

        Peace,

The way the world works and the way your consciousness creates it is something people have been fascinated with since the beginning.

The book that Tay mentioned is one I have read, and the holographic principle is a way of seeing the world in a way that is unique. The brain or in truth consciousness is an amazing thing.

Your brain, with its sensory inputs and thought processes is amazing in the vast volume of data it is able to process and lay down every moment. To think that the brain only operates on a material substrate is wrong. A person can have a whole areas of their brain removed and sometimes show no outward signs.

Consciousness has a non material aspect to it and even though this may not be 'proved' it is not unreasonable that there is a process that records one's complete brain activity into an immutable digest just as the God says.

5147 We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.

          peace truth,

5147 We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.

i dont know whose translation this is? but this is what I meant when I said
the translation of Quranic verses has always been updated like this with the advancement of knowledge, its a constant effort to make it compatable and logical with changing times. pick up a quranic translations of old and you will see the difference.

51 48. And WE have built the heavens with Our own hands, and, verily, WE have vast powers.

5148-and we built the heavens with Our own hands. We are the lord of immense power.

          5147 And the heaven-with our hands have we built it up, and given it expanse;

          1. With power and skill did We construct the Firmament for it is We Who create the vastness of space.

          2. And the heaven, We raised it high with power, and most surely We are the makers of things ample.

          3. With the power and skill did We construct the Firmament for
it is We Who create the vastness of Space

none of the translations by these guys say any thing about expanding universe? so after the theory of expanding universe some one thought why not include this in Quran and all you need to do is change few words?
may be waqas, layth and idolfree1 can help because they are good in arabic?

          bye.

                  Peace be upon you all,

You think anyone alive 1400 years ago could have thought about the two hemispheres of the brain upon hearing these verses being recited??

The philosophy of ancient egypt, the ones who had enough wisdom to build the great pyramid, understood the left and right brain as evidenced by thier philosophy. They also understood that the left brain has two speech centers by thier assignment of two "dieties" to this faculty.

However, some groups want mankind to think that the African could not think scientifically, so anything before certain time periods is considered ignoran an savage.

The brain theory is interesting indeed. Anyway, I've never figured out why does God need angels to do His work. After all, isn't He Omnipotent, All-Wise?

Peace be upon you M Mehdi,

Yes, one reference is to objective evidence of a science (knowing) at a time when people state there is not this intelligence.

                      The other reference

I dont need that history to succeed in life, that is a crutch, an idol, and I smash all of them

Refers to the history of a useless word used to ignite the flame (see abu lahab) of emotion, which is opposite to inviting to peacefulness(islam).

One is a stong foundation, the other is a crutch, or a buildingon a sand cliff waiting to tumble down.

there is a long process of learning by trail and error, before the eygptians managed to achieve the perfection required to build a pyramid. it was indeed a remakable achievement but i dont think they knew any thing about brain? infact they associated all the workings of brain with the heart.
the scientifically thinking of the africans could have only been in accordence to the then available knowledge only. knowledge is passed on from one generation to the other, every new generation has a slight advantage of better understang of things then their predesesors. take the example of the first cell phone that was introduced in the market and then compare it with the cell phone which are available now and note the difference.

                        bye.

                            Peace,
do the verses imply something about that recording being permanent? Because, for instance, after a brain commotion the recording activity stops dramatically.

                            Very good point

especially the Quran is telling us that these information recorded in a book by the two angels, will be giben to each one on the Judgment day as a physical and compelling evidence

there is no way that the vesres are not talking about two physical Malaika associated with every single human to write down his/her book

                            peace

good verse bro, it can't be a metaphor, and the hands/feet will talk as mentioned in the verse, in fact what will follow will confirm it, it says after that the wrong doers will ask their hands/feets why they beared witness against them?

if it is a metaphor then the Quran is not making any sense

                                salam,

                                The Quran

5017-And assuredly, WE have created man and WE know what his mind whispers to him, and WE are nearer to him than even his jugular vein.
                                5018-When the two Recording angels record everything, sitting on his right and on his left;
5019-He utters not a word but there is by him a guardian angel ready to record it,

What I want to understand is?

                                Who are we in verse5017

It is Allah, this is common thing in the arabic and the hebro languages, we use the plurer as a matter of respect, in fact the Queen of England call herself "We"

If God is near than our jugular vein and knows what our mind whispers, Then what are these recording Angels for?

because the recorded book will be given to each one of us to self witness ourselves as stated in the Quran, it is not going to happen by just discussing it verbally, the records will be there for the eye witness

why are they called guardian Angels in verse 5019 but are called recording angels in verse 5018? what are they guarding?

because the angels in general are guarding Allah laws, they are sort of the law enforcers, and consequently they have been assigned jobs, those two guardian angels have a job to records the good and bad deeds for the indviduals, consequently they have been called recording angels

                                Can they be biased?

they can't, the angels have no freewill and consequently they only do what they ordered to do by Allah, which is to enforce Allah laws, or Guard Allah laws

Did they exist from the beginning or are they created in accordance to the population growth on earth?

they must have existed before the Jinns and humans, but i can't prove this conclusivly, the Quran never talked about when they were created, but the Quran told us the The jinns were created before mankind

The most imporant point is you must believe in the angels as creatures of physical entities to be a real Muslim as stated in the Quran, this metaphor concept is a deception plan by Satan to flaw our belief

The earth has a population of 6.5 billion at present so there must be 13 billions Angels recording our deeds.
                                peace everyone.

yes but there are far more angels than 13 billions, as far as I know from the books I read, the angels are the easiest of creatures for Allah to create and He created billions and billions of them

                                peace bro

So the human ability to reason and to question is Satan's work! lol Nice job he's made. Please, be more remindful of God and less of Iblis. Next thing you know, you'll start sounding and thinking like some medieval priest whose speeches were only about Satan and his schemes. Hi ,

The most imporant point is you must believe in the angels as creatures of physical entities to be a real Muslim as stated in the Quran, this metaphor concept is a deception plan by Satan to flaw our belief

So the human ability to reason and to question is Satan's work! lol Nice job he's made. Please, be more remindful of God and less of Iblis. Next thing you know, you'll start sounding and thinking like some medieval priest whose speeches were only about Satan and his schemes. People attended churches just to hear about Hell or the Devil. lol

                                        Thats a good one! rotfl
People do confuse the 'use of reasoning and common sense' with 'being an Effect of Satan's influence'.

As far as i know - i checked in arabic as well as in the transliteration - the word angels is not found in the verses 50 (17-19). Also, the proposed interpretation does make sense.

Even though i'm with Jaxal when he wonders what's wrong with believing in angels i don't agree with the above statement. BTW, the metaphor concept is also accredited by the quran itself.
