    Peace Zenje,

you think it is not important but if we had the true info about the life of the person who received the inspiration, it could help to know what the quran says. For instance, there is no agreement in the poligamy issue. If we knew if that person had married many women, if he lived the message, then it would support the interpretation that poligamy is allowed.
If I understand you correctly Elena, the issue isn't the exact number of wives, this prophet had, but whether he had more than one? If that's the case then, the answer is in the message...

    1. O prophet, say to your wives ?If you are seeking this worldly life and its vanities, then come, I will make a provision for you and release you in an amicable manner.?

    2. O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they should lengthen upon themselves their outer garments. That is better so that they would be recognized and not harmed. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

    3. O you prophet, why do you prohibit what God has made lawful for you, seeking to please your wives? God is Forgiver, Merciful.

    Peace

LoteTree Here it is - thats the only thing you have said regarding this matter...I can email you the whole transcript if you like...

      Ok, check out this thread

      http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4097&highlight=meaning+attach+alquraan

Please comment on it if you haven't already seen it.

Look mquran, I am not attacking your understanding. I really want to understand, and I have said before, your method. Don't take it personally...

LT, intellectual cowardice does not befit you. You have made assertions such as But this approach is not even scientific? A scientific approach would be to apply same instrument of analysis to all scriptures and not change the method of analysis depending on the holy text...this is the objective way, this is the scientific way

So if you use such terminologies, I would expect you to know what you're talking those terms means. Here they are again for your convenience

      1. objective instruments of analysis

      2. scripture

I can only attempt to answer your underlined statement above if you can define these terms for me. How can you expect a discussion to progress when you yourself don't know what you mean ?!

And no, I'm not taking anything personally. I want the discussion to progress and so I am justifiably asking for clarification.

I disagree and assert you're lying.

I have been accused of many things mquran but above did hurt.

I don't wish to proceed with anything with you.

I withdraw from this and other threads in which I have engaged with you...

        Thanks.

        Shanti

        Regards,

Ok, its funny how you decided this 2 replies after I said it )

Np though, hope you can find your 'objective instruments of analysis' soon. (Hint Read Heidegger's On Way to Language)

Dont take things personally...some wise guy told me that.

              Salaam Shamsul-Arefin,

No, you don't have to marry a widow to support her but of course you can also marry her, why not!?

The prophets wives was like the mothers of his ummah so therefore no one else could marry them after his death.

              Peace Sis Majidah

                SaLaM Shamsul and LT

I agree with you Shamsul. At this moment in time, only pig heads will marry more than 1 woman.

Regardless if Quran approves other scriptures are not.

The Quran does approve other scriptures. The Quran also asks us to consult previous scriptures, i.e the Torah and the Gospel, if we are in doubt.

                  SaLaM SM

I think what shamsul meant was why marry a second woman just becoz she is a widow. Widows can take care of themselves at this point in time.

why the need to marry? He already has a life partner. If helping is the main purpose than why marry?

Doesnt make any sense........his ummah ? we are not following any human character here. Why give extra privilege to him only?? Thats pure discrimination. It sounds more like a ego thing....."I have married this girl so nobody can marry her even if I die or divorce her..!!"" It sounds soo childish and selfish also...whats so disrespectful abt it ?

doesnt make any sense to me....

                    peace

She can be supported and should be. If she approves of being polygynised though, then why are we having problems with it? This is not a forced marriage. A man who can afford to polygynise and a woman who doesn't mind being polygynised.

Why he had so many wives..?? I just cant accept it... and nobody can marry his divorced wife ?? LOL...thats soo personal mann

Ok. Perhaps this is just your value system getting in the way. I have no problem with an-nabiy, whom I consider to be similar to the alpha male, having more than one spouse. If you read al-quraan, you will find that women actually go to him asking to be married ( 'Wa Amra'atan Mu'uminatan 'In Wahabat Nafsah Lilnnabyi 'In 'Arda An-Nabyu 'An Yastankiah - 33/50). Do you feel you have the right to tell such women no ? Im sure you dont want to be a compeller yourself ?

I'd like to see the guy who "supports" the other woman while his wife is content with it. No, really... get married, do it, then get back to me. P
