verse 6:116 and "Who wants to be a millionaire"?
-
Hi everyone,
Here is a strange question
In 6116 we're told
If you obey the majority of people on earth, they will divert you from the path of GOD. They follow only conjecture; they only guess. Some has taken this to mean that we're prohibited from following the majority on the basis of 'majority' alone. If that's true, then are we also prohibited to follow the outcome of "ask the audience" on the "Who wants to be a millionaire?
I find the question somewhat odd, but nevertheless a challenge to such a view that we should not follow the majority.
I myself think that it's a bad idea to follow the majority, but i believe it's an equally bad idea to completly ignore them.
When i apply 3918 to 6116, I take it to mean we are to consult both majority and minority, but not follow them blindy "just because".
I also find Edip's interpretation of 6116 to be solid.
If this has been answered before, then my sincere apologies.

Khi- Let me add something here. 6116 talks about matters relating to GOD and His Laws NOT where theres a personal interest of the people involved because in that case theyll obviously be in yor favour. In case of "who wants to be a millionaire" above GOD is not involved and people always have a pride in helping their species to get ahead if theyr well adopt to their society. The case may have been different if all the audience knew that the guy on the millionaire chair would be a strict anti-homo for example. In that case id rather not trust the majority. GOD Bless!
