Ladies - do you wear hijab?

I'm sorry if there was some confusion. I am not advocating women going into harems and becoming walking tents when they leave the house.
Yes, some women do go crazy at the sight of a man. WHen i mentioned men going crazy it wasnt to deny women's biological functions, but to convey that on a practicial level, those women who do go crazy at the sight of a man will probably not harm that man. That man has little to fear in terms of being raped by her. THere are exceptions of course. One only has to take a walk in central park to understand this. Women on the other hand have a greater chance of being raped. I was advocating the use of a little common sense, and understanding of one's surroundings.
You are right, men and women can equally send the "look but don't touch" signal. Yet (and here again there are exceptions) it is the man who approaches the woman most of the time. If he gets excited, there is a greater chance of him approaching her and it leading to something. There is a better way to control men's sexual desire other than the zero tolerance policy.
No one wants to suppress a woman's sexuality. On the other hand, most men do not like over emphasis on a woman's sexuality. I'm sure that there are a lot of women that want to be seen as human beings, rather than a walking sex symbol. Hijab might be a symbol of oppression, but a tank top and mini skirt don't say "freedom." In fact, speaking from a man's point of view it says "hey, i'm insecure, i need to show off my body, come and appreciate me, and maybe i will give you something." I'm sure thats not what the woman was thinking when she put on those clothes, but that is how it is interpreted.
Men and women do need to be educated to become responsible adults, but education can only go so far. Biology does kick in beyond a certain point.
I'm sorry, westerners don't jump to the defense of freedom, only what they perceive is right and wrong. Which is understandable. BUt you associated the western system with freedom, rather their own social values. Which led you ask the question "freedom is a foreigner's system?" No freedom is not a foreigner's system. But a society derived from western social values is a foreigner's system. No matter how many of those values match our own.
Women are the future of any society. Hijab is one extreme, but mini skirts and tank tops are the other. Neither is of any use to a decent society. Then again, i don't believe anyone has the right to tell anyone what to wear, how to think etc. But i do believe that as adults we have a responsibility to the society we live in, and advocating provacative clothing does not help anyone. You are right in saying that education is required, and men should be educated in women's point of view, but women should also be educated in men's point of view. They should understand how the other behaves. People are quick to condemn any man who tries to explain what provocative clothing does to men, they say he is trying to stop women's "freedom." I am emphasizing a woman's right to think on her own terms, choose how she wants to live, but in doing so understand her responsibilities in society. I do not want to hamper anyone's freedom, on the other hand, i want to see women more free, and disassociated with the idea of being walking pieces of meat.

I wear hijab! I have my own personal issues with hijab. I have my bad issues with it, and I also have my good. Hijab is a love and hate thing for me. There is no "liking" it when it comes to my moods.
So far, virtually every argument for the support of "no hijab" that I have heard, is quite extreme and quite pathetic.
And so far, virtually every argument for the support of hijab that I have heard is quite extreme, and quite pathetic aswell.
My sister doesn't wear hijab, and I'm very happy that she has come to her own deciison about it.
I wear hijab because I have my own reasons, that satisify me enough to wear it everyday, that who knows... may be pathetic and extreme to you. But these are my own reasons. And this is what I am content with right now.
Personally I think that alot people are running towards hijab for the wrong reasons and poeple are running away from it for the wrong reasons as well.
As long as we talk about hijab, it will always show the control people want to have when it comes to what a woman should and should not wear. Neither what side you are on.
I know and it is evident that, there are many "progressives" that want to control wht a woman can and can't wear, just as there are many non-progressives who do as well.
It's sickening.

I have been muslimah for 15 years now and I have been wearing hijjab duing 8 years.
But since 4 years back I haven't worn it.
I feel more free without hijjab and I can't see in Quran that the hair is part of the beauty of a woman.

I only spoke about sweating but others wrote about "spanish fly" in your drink which makes female genital itch for sex - in that respect I have beeen very controlled thanks -)

Actually, I have come across a muslim family who cover up their 2 yr old girl from head(hair) to toe in loose clothing. Though it wasnt Hijab but nevertheless absolutely covered only revealing the face, hands and the feet, even during absolutely cruel summers.

Hi! They say that you're supposed to start wearing hijab when you hit puberty, I guess when you start menstruatin or when you start growing breast. I started when I had my first period. My sister makes her daughter wear it sometimes, like if they are at the masjid, or sometimes when they are going out, so they could get use to it (I mean they are 7 and 10....only a sick freak would look at a 7 or 10 yr old........and the hijab on them just may inhence is sexual fantasy)......but she is one of the type that you could explain something to her until you are blue in the face....and once her minds made up it's made up, so......I could only hope my nieces pull away from all the hadith and etc. when they get a little older.

Yeah, I know....it makes no sense, why would a baby have to cover??? but I went to a sunni school from the time I was four, and they used to make us cover, and my friend her school used to make her cover in black from head to toe and some of the girls covered their face aswell and it was like their first year of school.....ridiculous...no logic behind it at all.
