How do we do this?

?Those who avoid major sins and acts of indecencies and when they are angry they forgive.?How do we do this? When I'm angry, if I try to forgive, it's just fake and I wind up holding a grudge anyway. My smiles become not from my heart and I feel resentful. That would make me a hypocrite in my actions.
So what is the right way of forgiving when a wrong has been done to you that leads to anger?

we're only human after all. Many things are difficult to forgive - but with time passing your view can change, your understanding grow. It may not be an immediate thing. IMO this forgiveness is for our own good in the first place. When you hold a grudge it kind of eats you up from the inside- best way to get sick...

Peace onto both of you
So what I'm getting from both of you is you recognize the anger but work to bring it back to peace so you can forgive?
So there is a stage between whatever happened and the eventual forgiveness?
Because i can eventually forgive even if nothing gets resolved. Grudges don't last forever. It's just forgiving on the spot that i can't seem to figure out how to do wholeheartedly...
Is that even possible? From what i'm understanding from you two is there is always a point that you are angry and can't forgive. Then you strive to get to that point.

Assalamu alaikum,
The more mindful of Allah you are, the easier you will find to follow this verse. Think about how the situation will pass, and will become meaningless. After death, you want to be able to look back and feel you behaved in the most appropriate of ways in that situation, both inwardly and outwardly.
Peace be to you.

Peace Boost,
I agree with everyone's thoughts thus far. I would add only that compassion and true understanding via sympathy pave the clearest path, imo, to true forgiveness. We are often humbled by the motivations of others, if only we look for those motivations. And with practice, like anything else, forgiveness becomes easier and more readily available.
For me personally, understanding that the mind and soul compose our dual-nature has made compassion much easier. We(our minds) are all products of our environments, and as such, tend to take on the personality of the environment. This occurs in the short-term and long-term.
As Isa allegedly said, hate the sin, not the sinner.
Peace,
Tay
