Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

I was culturally a christian but a practical non-believer for many years before I embraced Islam. I had always been very into Arab/Islamic History and culture but never even considered to turn myself to religion. My irreligious posture, back then, was very strong.

Slowly but steadily, alhamdulillah, I started to change as I went deeper into reading and studying Islam. Everyday I related more and more to Islam and to God. Finally, after reading the Qur'an I naturally became a muslim.

I can say that I'm very happy and that I am a better balanced person than what I was before. But at the same time, it deeply saddens me to see how a great part of the muslim world is today, the sickness of extremism, the overall poverty, the dictatorships of many rulers, the situation of women, the ever-lasting conflicts in Palestine or Chechnya and so on.

At the same time it frightens me to see the large amount of muslims who praise or relate to extremists and criminals like Bin Laden (let me say that both the US and other western countries are criminals and responsible for the status quo as well) and that become satisfied with the terrorist attacks. Not to mention that such terrorist attacks are attacking and killing muslims in muslim countries as well. Many things make me think that a great change in mentality is needed without losing the identity and the truth in the religion.

So it is with great pleasure that I recently read the Islamic Reform manifesto and that I found this site and forum. May Allah grant us the will and the know-how to change things for the best.

    Peace

                Salam Mustaf@salim

Well done. I am so proud of you. It was very brave of you, look at me i still don't have the guts to confront my sunni family about the hadith.

                You are definetly an inspiration.

We at freeminds are still having a hard time trying to exorcise the sunni's out of Jaxal an 2Pac-Notts. They are ok most of the time but can get possesed sometimes. evil
Beware of LoteTree aswell we haven't exorcised him properly. He has a wicked sense of humour. twisted

I better go now before they find out i have left you a warning. Iv'e got a feeling theyr'e headed this way.

Just kidding luv. You wouldn't be here with us if you were sunni. How come we call them sunnis anyway, shouldn't we be calling them Hadithers or something. What is the meaning of sunni's?

The sunni is he who follows the Sunna, that is, the way of the Prophet, Salallahu Alaihi wa Salam. This is achieved by following the major Hadiths (Bukhari, Muslim, Hurayrah and others - Don't forget the Hadith Qudsi/Sacred wich are God's own words through the mouth of Muhammad!!, Salallahu Alaihi wa Salam), siras, general consensus of the 'Umma, one of the four major schools of thought, through fiq (islamic jurisprudence) and, oops - almost forgot roll , the Qur'an, that is, the word of Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta'ala!

Sunni or syiah or else are group of who called them self as moslems but in fact making Islam braken into friction. Whoever make Islam to be a friction called musyreek

Turn ye back in repentance to Him, and fear Him establish regular prayers, and be not ye among those who MUSYREEKEEN.,

Those who split up their Religion, and become (mere) sects, each party rejoicing in that which is with itself!

Please read my life story at http//www.y19.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=7
Youll find how i converted from a strict fanatical sunni to a Quran Aloner who believes in code-19 and also that Rashad Khalifa WAS a messenger(NOT a prophet who brings a new scripture according to Quran, plz read http//www.submission.org/messenger/prophet.html ) of GOD. GOD Bless!

                                  Wa alaikum salam jonny

I read your story and found it very interesting. I'm happy for you! I too came to realize that the hadiths are so non-sense that they couldn't be from the Messenger or from God through the Messenger (like the Qudsi).
As for code 19 and the submitters, I haven't read it enough but their point on hadiths is a good point. It's a pitty that most muslims don't even consider questioning hadiths. I had some arguments with them but it's always proven rather worthless... ?
I was told too that complete bull about folding your trousers, grow a beard, don't eat with your left hand, women's salat is more valid in house, dogs are not to be pets, music is discouraged and more endless garbage. I mean, these guys don't live at all! Honestly, I never really believed or followed any of this non-sense before and definitely it was not because of them that I came to Islam, so I'm glad the hadiths are begining to be exposed to the truth.

May God guides all and give us strength.
