    Salam Osiris

Welcome and please do make your self at home here.

We will most definitely treat you like one of the family and feel free to ask what you want and don't be ashamed.

I was thinking of writing to the mods to ask them to change the name from Progressive Muslims to Previously Confused Muslims but some how it just doesn't sound right. what do you think? wink

Hmmm...you know its funny we even call it 'progressive' muslims. I like terms like Originalist, or Purist, for what I believe. Because I dont think we are believing anything that the original muslims of the prophet Mohammed's time didn't believe.

Currently, in my process of discovery, I have found that the whole concept of halal meat in terms of saying Allah's name at the slaughter appears to be a fabrication. I think most of you have already come to that conclusion I never went out of my way to eat halal meat, but now i can stop feeling slightly guilty about it!

Now I am doing research on the validity of hadith. I never believed any of them are trustworthy, but now I think if there is a compilation of hadith that is completely supported by the quran, than I'd accept it. I wonder if there is any such compilation of hadith anywhere in print.

You shall eat from that upon which GOD's name has been pronounced, if you truly believe in His revelations.

Hmm, Interesting. I'm not convinced, but it is enough to make me want to find those Sura's that I had not considered in regards to this matter and hear the arabic so as to know if the translations on that link are accurate. One thing I am not following in the logic in that link is

Now if we see carefully the verses 6118, 6121 (in which the context is not clear whether the reference is to animals or otherwise), there is another key point to note. The addressee in the verses is the second person YOU, but the mentioning of the name of Allah is in THIRD PERSON (passive voice). See the verses again as below

YOU eat of that over which the name of Allah HAS BEEN MENTIONED

YOU do not eat over which the name of Allah HAS NOT BEEN MENTIONED

What is the author trying to say about the third person and second person here? And are they taking in to account the grammatical structure in arabic and english are very different?

JK- This is an interesting point. What the author means that the above stetemtns of GOD are thus NOT a COMMAND but simply statements of facts of what believers would do but ultimately it still means that believers wont eat anything except after pronouncing the name of GOD on it. BUT 6121 seems like a command to me since it uses "TAkulu" and not just "kulu" but im not sure. GOD Bless!

Ah, I see. The author was somehow trying to state that this supports his claim that pronouncing Allah's name at slaughter but I don't see how.
