Surah 10 Yunus (Jonah)-- Proved alot of Trad. Views are Myth
-
As Salaam Alaikum,
Ok, so last night we were to read Surah 10 Yunus, which translates into Jonah.
Again, I will post note the ayats in this chapter that stood out to me, along with a brief description/comment about it.
NOTICE-- most of the descriptions ARE NOT the actual translations of the ayats, they are just comments and descriptions.
101-- A.L.R. These are the Ayats of the Book of Wisdom
To me this ayat further disproves the claim of "we need hadith", those who argue for hadith are always quoting another verse that talks about how Allah talks about "book and the wisdom", they say "We know the Quran is the book, but what is the wisdom?" obviously implying that the "wisdom" is hadith... No. THe Quran is the BOOK AND the Wisdom.
And another thing to point out is how Allah desrscibes itself as a "Book of Wisdom". This further disproves the myth that the Quran was written down years after the Prophet's death. Traditionalist will have you believing that the Quran was only recited from memory for so long and never written down for years... please go to this thread http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4603 which further disproves that myth as well.
104- We will return to Allah
Okay, I know that this may sound wierd to a few, or maybe even all, but that verse in paticular really had some cultural weight for me. The reason is because I am American (from the USA). And in the USA most people are Christians.
Alot of times in the USA, paticularly when you hear tevangelicalist (sp??), Christians always say, "We will return to God.... To He We will return". To me that always sounded "christian", and I never really thought of returning back to God... it just sounded "so christian" to say and again returning back to God never crossed my mind. I was just thinking "That's so Christian".
But now I see Allah is telling us all that we will return back to him (he says this in many verses), and now I feel really cool about this. I feel closer to him when I read this, and I can imagine even move compassion from him. ANd I also feel that I have something more in common with my fellow Christian American people. I don't know, just for a long time the "We will return back to God" sounded Christian-American (like I hear it so much, that i could never imagine a French Christian saying it... maybe it's becuase of TV so all of the dramatic music and scenery impacts it even more, lol) and made me feel less of an American because of it... Where the in the heck was I suppose to be returning? But Now I know.
I don't know how to explain it correctly, maybe a few of you will get what I mean.
1015-- Talks about even with Quran, people aren't satisfied
1037-- Further describes itself as a BOOK (furhter disproving the myth that the Quran was written down years later)
1038-- People accusing Prophet of forging
1044-- It is man that wrongs his own soul
1061-- Nothing is hidden from Allah
10109-- Follow thou the inspiration sent unto thee, and be patient and constant, till Allah, do decide For he is the best to decide
Well that's all folks. Please leave your notes aswell too. And anyone can join the study group at anytime, so it doesn't matter how late you are.
Tonight we will read SUrah 11.Also its 'first come, first post"... so if you finish reading Surah 11, and want to comment, you can create the thread for it in the "Questions/Comments on the Quran" section.
Please title it in the format that I title the threads in Surah #, it's Arabic name, and translation Name... Also if you want you can add a little "headliner" like I did, too.
And Just ONE surah a day.... don't post notes on Surahs 11 12,13,14,and 15 all in one day please... just one day at a time.
Also I advise that if you do start the thread for Surah 11, please put a "NOTICE" sign like I did... explaining that your descriptions/comments are not the actual translations of the ayats, just decriptions/comments of it.
salaam

My favourite is
1028-29
One day shall We gather them all together. Then shall We say to those who joined gods (with Us)
"To your place! ye and those ye joined as partners".
We shall separate them, and their Partners shall say
"It was not us that ye worshipped! Enough is Allah for a witness between us and you we certainly knew nothing of your worship of us!"
and then in 1035, it is clear that guidance can only come from God, no man on earth past or present has the power to guide.
Say "Of your partners is there any that can give any guidance towards truth?"
Say "It is Allah Who gives guidance towards truth, is then He Who gives guidance to truth more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? what then is the matter with you? How judge ye?"peace
