Nail Polish in prayer
-
...but I know that the hadiths say we cannot have it on during prayer...
Cannot have what? nail polish?
Do they had "medora" company at that time in Mecca?
The modren nail polish was invented in 1920's.
In fact, there are those who do not tolerate anything that was not practiced or known to the inhabitants of seventh-century Arabia. These are strange ideas to associate with the most universal and rational religion in the world. Obviously, these alien notions fossilize Islam and constitute a serious misreading of the true Islamic message.
A Story narrated by
Anas who said, "The Messenger of Allah set a time limit for us for trimming the mustache, trimming nails, removing armpit hairs and removing pubic hairs. They cannot be left for more than forty nights."2 Letting them grow long resembles animals and some of the disbelievers. No nail Polish in this story at least? if u know of any please post it.

The reason why people say no nail polish in prayer is because when you do wudu (ablution) the water doesn't touch your nails, because the nailpolish is over it and it's waterproof so people say your wudu would be invalide because the water didnt actually touch your nail. I'm not sure if it's wrong or right though i'd personally avoid it

i think the point of wudu is to be clean. wash off the dirt, germs, sweat. i don't see how putting on nail polish prevents anyone from being clean. plus it just says to wash your hands, not scrub it and don't forget to scrub those nails lol
i don't know i don't see the point in taking off nail polish before you do wudu. unless people just think it's not modest but that's a different issue.

Sister, you wear your nailpolish. Wear the brightest, sparkliest, shiniest stuff you've got. If that's what makes you happy. Who said God wants us to be unhappy? I doubt highly that any woman wears nail polish to entice men. Studies have proven that women dress up more for other women than for men. You know what's in your heart. If as your painting your nails you're thinking, "oh this is going to attract a lot of the wrong kind of attention from men", then duh, but if you do it because it brings you joy, go for it. Life is short!
I mentioned briefly in a different post my experience with a Muslim woman making a big ta-do out of me having on toe nail polish. That, along with what hand to hold the Quran with, what to say when entering the bathroom, what size earrings I could wear, all the things these women I turned to for support were inundating me with, nearly sent me over the edge (away from Islam). It's a neuroses if you ask me, anyone who is spending that much time attempting to be perfect is not healthy.
-I have frequently seen people become neurotic when they content themselves with inadequate or wrong answers to the questions of life (Jung, 1989140).
-The majority of my patients consisted not of believers but of those who had lost their faith (Jung, 1989140).- is blind to the fact that, with all his rationality and efficiency, he is possessed by "powers" that are beyond his control. His gods and demons have not disappeared at all; they have merely got new names. They keep him on the run with restlessness, vague apprehensions, psychological complications, an insatiable need for pills, alcohol, tobacco, food ? and, above all, a large array of neuroses. (Jung, 196482).
Additionally, I feel very strongly that we, as women need very much to be less critical of each other. Frankly, what other people are doing is none of our business. Worry about yourself, what's right for you, not others. I am much more at peace with my faith now that I have stopped communicating with other muslim women (except here). I had never met such judgmental people in my life. I have sympathy for them in that perhaps they've not had the freedoms I've had in becoming my own person, but it was in my best interest to distance myself from them.

peace Lily,
it all depends on how you look at it.
I prefer to look at it as a long journey, rather than something that is rushing by us. Life can't be so short that I can't stop once in a while to admire the flowers in spring, or the colorful leaves in autumn. Life has to be long enough so that I can do everything I want and a little more.
Most people live up to at least 50 years. half a century is a very long time.
Let's say you are on your break at work, but you don't know when it'll end. You can see it two ways. 1. you can think that the break may end very soon, so you eat as much as you can without enjoying your food and don't really do anything else.
2. you can think that you don't care when it'll end, and you take your time to relax and enjoy your time off work and savor your food. The risk with this is that the break might end in the middle of your meal. That would really suck.
But I'd think that even if I didn't get to do a lot, or didnt' get to finish what I started, at least I took the most out of everything I did.And another thing that makes life really long is all the second chances we get (there are virtually no third, fourth, fifth, or last chances). We can do something wrong, and we always have the ability to turn things around. Unless we die while doing something wrong, which again would really suck.
So that's what I was thinking. I don't really know, though
and that was pretty funny, Lost Philosopher.

Peace phoenix1,
peace Lily,
-it all depends on how you look at it.
-So that's what I was thinking. I don't really know, though-Or WHEN you look at it. From previous posts I've read of yours, I'm old enough to be your mother.
-One day you will. When I was your age (assuming I'm right, 19 or 20), people my current age seemed ancient. And I couldn't have imagined for a second that one day I'd be my age and look back to realize that it goes really, really fast. Just like those dumb old people told me it would.Peace

I suppose you mean according to women themselves right? Because I do not there is anything pretty with nail polish.
See, I said in my post that most women are less concerned about what men think, than what makes them happy and what other WOMEN think. Thanks Jankren.

Salam Lilyfleur,
I especially loved your response, and boost's! bravo...I agree, i do not think considering the time period that nail polish was invented that it was prohibited under the general rules of the wudu, however....considering that we must assume the Qurans laws are timeless, and that there were laws indicative of certain time periods, and some not indicative..potentially, nail polish could be a non-complete form of wadu. But I have to assume being a medical guru and one prone to science intelligence, LOL ignore, that if the nail is able to breathe under the polish, which it is, then although some solutions of the polish may be insoluable to H2O, they nail itself is still exposed to aqua ions, therefore, scientifically wudu is complete on a molecular level jedi
GRRRRRR, come and get me hadith believers!!! just joking! peace
-
Salam,
After moments of reflection, I would like to aplogize, in witness to god, that i am sorry for any arrogance, I commited in claiming to be a medical guru, and of scientific knowledge in my previous response to nail polish vs wadu...regardless of any education I have had, I should be more humble. And I apologize, to any offense made to any hadith believers, I only pray for them guidance and mercy from Allah.
