    As Salaam Alaikum,

Could someone please help me understand the above to verses and how they don't crash??

    55
    This day are things
    Good and pure made lawful
    Unto you. The food
Of The People of the Book
    Is Lawful unto you
    And yours is lawful
    unto them.
    (lawful unto you in marraige)
    Are (not only) chaste women
    Who are believers, but
    Chaste women among
    The People of the Book,
    Revelead before your time,--
When ye give them their due dower.....

but in a previous verse it says

    2221
    Do not marry
    Unbelieving** woman
    Until they believe
    A slave women who believes
    Is better than an unbelieving
    woman.
    Even though she allure you.
    Nor marry (your girl)
    to unbelievers until they believe
    A man slave who believes
    is better than an unbeliever
    eventhhough he allure you......

Now I just looked at one of the notes made by the translator and its saying that the ** literally means "Pagan".

Is this correct? Along with that, could you try translating the verse?

Is 2221 only talking about Pagans, and the actualy Arabic Quran says "pagans" and not "unbelieving"??

Could you elaborate on these two verses please and explain how they don't crash?

    salaam

      Salam NoProgressive,
The word in 2221 is "Mushrikaat" which means "idolators" or "those(females) which associate(partners to GOD as per Quran's context)". 55 refers to THOSE PEOPLE OF THE BOOK who are CHASTE and thus dont commit adultery or associate partners with GOD. There are still people of the Book who dont believe Jesus is GOD or the literal son of GOD like the Jehova's Witnesses. We are not allowed to marry people of the Book who assocuate partners with GOD and thus even sunnis and shias are prohibitted until they quit their idolatrous beliefs. GOD Bless!

        As Salaam Alaikum Jonny_K,

        Thanks...

Can you also help me with this verse?

        6010
        O ye who believe!
        When there coem to you
        believing women refugress,
        examine them
        Allah knows best asto their
        FaithL If ye ascertain
        that they are believers,
then send them not back to the
        Unbelievers, they are not lawful
        for the unbelievers, nor are
        they (unbelievers) lawful (husbands)
        for them...................

Does this also contain the words "mushrikaat"??

        salaam

          Salam NoProgressive,
No this verse is talking about BELIEVING WOMEN(muminaat) and "kufaar(unbelievers/rejectors/concealors of the truth)" who are in this context the male disbelievers. The verse says that if women who claim to be believers come from the side of disbelievers, then we should test them if theyr not hypocrites. Once we get assurance of that we are not to send them back to the disbelievers since as we know a believer is not allowed to have an idolatrous spouse as per Quran. GOD Bless!
