Forum Rules/Banning Issue

If a person is forewarned I think it should be expected of him/her to realize that they should not go down such a road again, especially when the forum rules are given to them to observe. I believe it is counterproductive to baby people in such a way, explaining that they broke the rules again when they are asked to review them and not break them again.
How is informing the offender, ''this is what u r banned for'' counterproductive? Can u explain ur view? Infact, I think it can be productive coz it sends out a clear message, each time, that such posts wont be tolerated here.
In any court of Law anywhere in the world, the guilty normally, has the right to know the exact offence for which he is punished. How is it babying people?

I think the first warning to an individual should make it clear that such posts (that are disruptive) will not be tolerated.
I think it can be productive coz it sends out a clear message

A person should learn to abide by the rules. Simple as that. Children grow up learning how to abide by rules and are constantly punished. Some adults act like children when they continually violate rules and become offenders.

OK, this clearly doesnt sound like a ''warning'' to me. It sounds more like friendly advice/ reminder.

Sorry, but you're the one fussing so why would you be complaining about the 'fuss'? I gave a different opinion and you chose to (in your word) 'fuss' about it.
Since you see a 'fuss' I will say this is my opinion and I do not agree with your idea. The forum rules are very pragmatic and simple. One who cannot live up to them should be banned.

Oops! I wasnt complaining about anthing. Was merely trying to understand. My bad! ''fuss'' was propably a wrong word to be used. I meant, I dont see the problem in merely letting one know his offence.

A big YES!
Users have a duty to inform the admin/mods if a rule is broken. They should reference the specific post and what rule was broken if its not obvious.Its like being in the real world and you see someone robbing a bank, do you just do nothing or would you try to put things right?

Ok. And in reply yo that help, you mods could act with determination. e.g. if you read a sentence like "you lack appropriate maturity and intellect" said from an user to another, you could simply delete that part of the post and add an 'edited by mod' line.

Hi everyone!
I joined this forum a while back with the intention of waiting and seeing how it works before risking posting. I was banned from MWU for not listening, not being affectionate and being combative, not for any obvious breaches of the rules. Naturally these are very subjective grounds and as far as I could see I hadn't behaved in any way different from so many others and in most cases much better!
Its certainly a good idea with a discussion of what is acceptable and what isn't and clear guidelines with examples. If posts from those who get banned are allowed to stay on the forum I think the word "banned" should be added to the posters signature so that its clear the poster is unable to continue with the discussion. Thid would also give others an idea of how the rules are applied in practice.
I would like to know if a ban means that someone not knowing a poster has been banned, can send a PM mistakenly thinking that the banned person gets it? This is a problem I've run into on the MWU forum. I continually receive mail that there's a new PM in my postbox but since I've been banned I cannot access it. This is a pretty shabby way to treat users. Naturally it also means I cannot access any old PMs I might want to reference.
Personally I'm against banning in all cases except spamming so I couldn't vote here. I think most people are reasonable and can learn to ignore meaningless offensive posts. I'm on other forums where there are in effect no moderators at all and it works fine. Being banned on MWU was the first time I'd ever encountered any problems on any forum, so the mere possibility of being banned on this forum makes me very hesitant now. I feel I have to get to know the mods and try and see what goes and what doesn't and if its altogether worth it anyway.
As for a temporary ban, well for me I wouldn't be interested in a site once I'd been banned and quite frankly I don't understand why anyone else would be. What's the point of contributing to a forum where one is not appreciated let alone respected for what one has to say?
