    Salam,

I always ask myself what kind of wall it was that the Gog and Magog could not have the means to pass through. And why on the Day of doom they could?

    Anybody know? Peace

      Peace be upon you,

Another question is why cant we find an IRON WALL that was made between TWO MOUNTAINS today, but we still have stone pyramids

Also, they must sure have a good health system on thier side of the wall, or within thier iron prison to live such a long time.

The story of Gog and Magog as being imprisonned behind a wall of iron, and will break through to lay waste to the Earth during the end of times has no basis in the Reading. This is just a myth imported from the Jewish
        scriptures.

Gog and Magog are ancient savage tribes that do not exist anymore. They are extinct. However, the geographical region wherein they lived still exists. The Sunnis seem to believe that Gog and Magog are half-human/ half-monsters that are entrapped behind a wall, and every day they chew a piece from the wall, but they wake up the next morning to see that God has repaired the damaged section. This goes on day after day, until, just before the End of Times, God lets them pass through ( They chew or dig their way through this wall) and run amuck, laying waste to the Earth.

Sounds like a nice plot for a fantasy movie don't you think?

          Thanks Pazuzu,

I heard loads of crap from the sunnisits and the hadithists. But what the Quran say, that I found interesting. The Quran does mention the wall, however, being Scientist and not being a Civil Engineer I found it hard to understand what sort of wall the Quran is talking about.

          Any comment?

The description of this wall is in the chapter entitled "The Cave". (Al-Kahf).

If we accept the theory that Zhulquarnain was a Persian king of the Achamenid Dynasty ( possibly Cyrus ), then it's safe to assume that the 'wall' mentioned in the reading is probably some kind of military structure or fortification built to guard the Northen border of the ancient Persian Empire. ( Somewhere in the Caucasian mountains- modern day Republic of Georgia ). In fact, the entire region is littered with ancient ruins of Persian military forts and other structures. This 'wall' mentioned in the reading could be one of many such structures ( it doesn't have to be unique ).

            Peace..

                    Hello Kyle

Mate, the above was just an opinion due to the fact I don't believe that there are two persons in the name of Gog and whatever who will break a wall and come out like mad on earth, while it is still a possibilty, I believe it happened already in the image of any mischiefer on earth

no furher proofs bro, it is just an opinion, I may be wrong though, howevevr I'm not following a belief here becsause I'm not required to believe what are they, i'm just trying to know the history and as you know history is history and will always be hard to confirm beyond doubt

                    Cheers

I respect your opinion, but I'm afraid I can't agree with you on that one.
the verses in Chapter 18 that deal with Gog and Magaog are not metaphoric. They are describing historic events that took place millenia ago.

The term "Gog and Magog " appears twice in the Reading

                      • In Chapter 18 it is used to denote ancient tribes WHO USED TO EXIST LONG AGO.

                      • In the chapter entitled "The Prophets", the term appears again, and denotes the geographical region where they used to live.

With all due respect, I think you guys are taking this "metaphoric" or "symbolic" interpretation of some verses a bit too far.

                        Peace bro

I meant they already came out in the past, i.e. they are not metaphoric in the past, this was just an opinion rergarding any michiefer now days, I consider him/her exactly like them

this means I don't consider them a metaphor, rather they existed for real in the past, but again they might come back with the will of Allah, I don't really know neither I'm required to believe they existed or not as long as I don't sepculate on the subject and push my ideas to the others

btw I'm totally against this metaphoric joke

                        peace be with you

                          Peace be upon you,

                          A joke? D

It seems to me that it is more hilarius to see people going for anything that they would never go for if the ordinary human walked up to them and told them about.

If your friend walked up to you and said they just threw a stick and it turned into a snake, you wouldnt even entertain the comment.

How convinent all this stuff happenned in the past.

Myself, I am interested in the truth underlying these metaphors as to how to conduct my life RIGHT NOW. I'm still waiting for someone to explain what benefit there is to knowing that there were people were enslaved inside an iron barrier. How does hat effect your behavior TODAY?

                            peace

about the metaphors in the quran,
i think everything in the quran is there for a reason. Its not just a bunch of stories meant for entertainment. Everything, whether it actually happened or is fictional, has a meaning. Everything has a lesson. And sometimes, to learn that lesson, you have to take things metaphorically.
All the people in the quran, whether real or not have some kind of metaphorical significance.

Yes, understanding the brilliance of the metaphor does not equate that we should know all the answers. But at least you are not wasting time searching for ARKS and IRON barriers.

Isn't the barrier supposed to be a mixture of iron and gold or something?
that's what my mom used to tell me.
And i think several different ancient "arks" have been found according to the pictures i've seen floating around on christian and islamic websites.

And yes, i've still got a lot to learn (and i actually do learn something new everyday) and i hope we'll find all the answers some day.

Not everything you read in the Koran is metaphoric.

There are some verses thet describe past historic events like wars or conquests.

The "wall" mentioned in Chapter 18 is a military rampart built to block a natural pass between two hills or cliff faces. There is nothing extra-ordinary or mythical about it. It's the people who interpret verses that turn truths into myths.

Gog and Magog do not exist anymore. They perished long ago. Nowhere in the Reading does it say that they will appear again.

                                    Enough said.
