al-fahisha is not just adultery. Please see this passage
When they do aught that is shameful, they say "We found our fathers doing so"; and "God commanded us thus" Say "Nay, God never commands what is shameful do ye say of God what ye know not?"Say "My Lord hath commanded justice; and that ye set your whole selves (to Him) at every time and place of prayer, and call upon Him, making your devotion sincere as in His sight such as He created you in the beginning, so shall ye return." (7/28-29)
Fahisha here is the opposite of al-qist or justice.
You might want to factor this in.

I have three points
- Ritual salat can prevent you from committing indecent acts b/c if you do in fact pray x times a day, you are far more likely to remember God than if you do not.
- 629 has nothing to do with the punishment for adultery. It is not even mentioned anywhere in the sura. If God wanted to say this, why didn't "he" state one after the other? It is pure assumtpion to say that one necessarily attaches to the other.
- Salat does not have to have only one meaning! Just b/c a meaning does not fit somehwere doesn't mean that it doesn't fit anywhere.

unfortunately this is not completely true, i know many who perform the ritual salat regularly, but they love to get involved in every kind of indecent activities.

I guess thats why Ichephren wrote it can prevent you from committing indecent acts. Me too I know lots of people who pray x times a day and just when when they turn around they do many things which contradicts the quran in many ways. I guess this is because the human ego is so strong and if you don't try hard enough and dont really take the words of God serious then praying x times a day wont help. But for others this daily remembering of God helps preventing them from indecent acts.
I know some people who become much better persons since they pray.Regards

How about other communities who don't pray 5* ,but are good , what prevents them from what we are talking about here? so can it be something other which prevents one from the evil actions???
Or would you just stick with - it's the praying 5* which can only do this ?.God Bless All.

if you read my posts carefully you will find out that I always emphasize what MY experiences are, MY personal view, how I see it subjectively.

Of course not! And thats what I emphasized above in my respond to agent. It can. And my personal experience says it helps me. I wholeheartedly understand and accepted why God always asks us again and again to remember Him, dhikr Allah. The way how you do that is up to you. My way is the contact-prayer 3 to 5 times or more or less a day as I find it written in the Quran in 1778, 2238, 11114, 4103, 2945
So if other communities remember and praise God in an other way than x time a day in the traditional muslim way - thats fine with me and I am sure it helps them. What is important is to be and to stay in contact with our Creator. What I personally doubt is the fact that you have God that much in your heart and mind without doing anykind of remembrance in any ritual manner.
That is my humble view on that.

I disagree with the "commitments" view. I take salaat to be programming of the NAFS (spirit/mind).
Salaat accompanies many of the duties we are to perform to let us know that these BEHAVIORS must be PROGRAMMED into the spirit of man.
Man has two divisions, the part that WILLS and the part that CARRIES THINGS OUT. We can verify this ourselves. We all know how we Say (will) that we will workout this year, or be better "muslims" this year, or budget bater this year, or stop smoking, or stop eating ice cream, etc, but we keep on doing it. We have discussions in our heads "I shouldnt be eating this, etc". There is a battle going on in our minds. This is because there are two parts of BEING, the SELF which wills, and the SPIRIT/MIND(Nafs) which carries things out, but what most dont understand is that the SPIRIT is TIME RESTRICTED. The metaphor is the man and woman, the man can always give seed, the woman is time based and cannot always accept the seed. Same with the SUN and MOON.
So we are given TIMES when the NAFS is most receptive, and it so happens that these times are when the DAY and NIGHT merge. Also, the FULL MOON is a time of high receptivity, as well as the summer and winter solstice. The heavenly bodies are timing devices for us.
In conclusion, we must BURN the proper behavior into our spirits, not just read or listen to the recitation of proper behavior. We know from school that just listening to a teaching is not enough, we must go over it again and again and again and again. Repitition is a way of putting is in a TRANCE state, which is how the human truly burns the info in the Spirit to be recalled when needed.
