    Peace be upon you,

how come so many Muslims face the black cube in Mecca and pray?

Because that is what they were conditioned to do mentally. We can ask why Jews face a wall and sway back and forth and the answer will be the same. The human spirit/mind(nafs) is like soil of the earth, whatever sed is planted and cultivated is what will grow and manifest. That is why salaat(programming of the spirit/mind) is so important and it is why we should GUARD our salaat. Woe to those who program thier minds and are heedless of the programming, because that means that someone else is programming you. Maybe the TV PROGRAM or radio PROGRAM, which is certainly not teaching us to transcend the emotional state, but instead glorifying the emotions.

JK- I agree with salaat being a programming for the human soul. It is also a disciplinary act and i believe we are commanded to face the Kaabah. There are many converts from Christianity who later face the Kaaba in their salat so your seed example is not quite valid. GOD has commanded it, we find that it is to discipline us and perform it. GOD Bless!

Peace be upon you Jonny K,

Perhaps you do not really understand my "seed' example, facing a stone cube does not program anything, putting yourself in a receptive state (provaeble by brainwave patterns) and then reciting TRUTHFUL AFFIRMATIONS, or visualizing certain behaviors and responses, would be the proper "seeding".

Facing a stone does not put anything into you.

Peace bmbmm and all. I am begining to think that whatever you want to do as salat may be acceptable to a person if; a)it changes/maintains your behaviour to do good, and ; b) it does not hurt others around you.
So whether the current hajj or current salat fit into a) and b) is dependent on what they achieve.(which also has a subjective element).
In other words what you want to do is fine, but it should achieve something productive to yourself and/or others.
          Peace.

Peace idol-free and all. What do you suggest about someone going to the 'conventional' hajj and having genuine 'behaviour changing' results while doing it. (even though these changes may be incidental and not necessarily totally caused by the hajj but also by the state of mind etc.) Im interested because one sometimes get an 'inkling' to change ones behaviour for the better from a vast array of situations, and i feel i cannot negate other peoples beliefs and rituals if it works for them in a positive way while causing no harm.
            Peace.

              Hi all,

Idolfree, In my view, ''being ur self, living with the purity of one's soul'' & ''connecting with God''are two different but essential things.

Being ur self, living with the purity of one's soul is the meditative state(the behaviour programming etc...which u r bringing up in every post of urs these days ) ). This state enables us to live our lives the best, correct, fruitful way we can.

Connecting with our creator through prayers, salaat, reminders etc strengthens that soul of ours and gives life the meaning of our exsistence.

So, I wouldnt say salaat is meditation. But both, salaat and meditative state helps us be more of the ''human'' that we can be.

              Peace!

(even though these changes may be incidental and not necessarily totally caused by the hajj but also by the state of mind etc.)

I cannot discount those results, but how will they maintain those changes? One cannot keep going to "Hajj" every month or even every year. The "ritual" is something that must be maintained. One can even go to Christain church and change behavior, but what we are looking for is hat which is steady and persistent, not the hit or miss.

Im interested because one sometimes get an 'inkling' to change ones behaviour for the better from a vast array of situations, and i feel i cannot negate other peoples beliefs and rituals if it works for them in a positive way while causing no harm.

I understand and respect what you are saying, but at the same time, one must not conceal the truth when they know. True learning comes from being in a state of trance (a very common state that we go in and out of everyday unaware). We have to learn how to induce this consciously.

The power of belief is strong, and when the message that is believed is correct, it will produce results, but most situations feed you much foolishness along with one truth.

Peace be upon you Peaceful Muslim,

Idolfree, In my view, ''being ur self, living with the purity of one's soul'' & ''connecting with God''are two different but essential things.

You must do your research then. You must come to KNOW THYSELF, then you will see that the SELF is the same as GOD.

Being ur self, living with the purity of one's soul is the meditative state(the behaviour programming etc...which u r bringing up in every post of urs these days ). This state enables us to live our lives the best, correct, fruitful way we can.

Living truth at crossroads of life is indeed a waking meditation, that is the real work, but first we have to do the Trance meditation to plant the seeds.

Connecting with our creator through prayers, salaat, reminders etc strengthens that soul of ours and gives life the meaning of our exsistence.

So, I wouldnt say salaat is meditation. But both, salaat and meditative state helps us be more of the ''human'' that we can be.

Well, I might lose some here, but I am already human, I am trying to transcend that and realize the God within!! And salaat just has too many proofs to not be meditation, but I respect your understanding.

                    Hi Idolfree1,

Lets say , I have and is ongoing
The self in its purest form contains God's spirit. Its the best of human form and its the form that God intended us to be in, live in. The self itself isnt God.

Being ur self, living with the purity of one's soul is the meditative state(the behaviour programming etc...which u r bringing up in every post of urs these days ). This state enables us to live our lives the best, correct, fruitful way we can.

It is the state of self which gives us the 'best' of us.

Connecting with our creator through prayers, salaat, reminders etc strengthens that soul of ours and gives life the meaning of our exsistence.
So, I wouldnt say salaat is meditation. But both, salaat and meditative state helps us be more of the ''human'' that we can be.

We have 'human' and 'animal' nature within us. Human nature is the one which thinks logically before we act and exercises adequate self-control as necessary. Animal nature is the one that leads to impulsive decissions, falling for temptations etc with no self control. Humans are the most supreme of all creations of God becoz of their ability to be humans and not animals with the use of their wisdom.
This is what I meant when I said ''But both, salaat and meditative state helps us be more of the ''human'' that we can be.''

                    Peace!

Hi Thanks all. I think rituals can waste time. I think what really important is to remember God, because it is trough God's remembrance that one succeed. The remembrance is achieved through knowledge, and using this knowledge to reflect on Gods creation with reasoning and research and guidance through the Quran. Rituals and meditations that does not make sense and waste time are I think not right. Such as people through out the world, just go to a Friday prayer and see what is achieved...nothing. Why? Because people have turned a gethering/discussion etc into a ritual.

                          As SAlaam Alaikum,

                          I believe in 5 salats a day, not 3.

To me it just does not seem right to assume 3, when Allah talks about "glorifying" him during the morning and other parts of the day and not believe that he is referring to salat. But of course poeple are free to believe what they like.

                          ....

                          salaam

Shalat is daily rituism that happen as it was, as Ibrahim taught by Allah. Not necessarily done only after bargaining between Muhammad and God.

Muhammad was very faithful what instructed was done as it was. Only absurdity telling the lies that Muhammad was getting shalat instruction by ascending outerspace. His shalat like ours was "kama shalaita 'ala Ibrahim", was perfectfully like Ibrahim's prayer.

The current Islam was fully invented stories, which diverses Muslim from the aim to establish Allah's deen on earth, to be simple rituism.
