Peace riz and all. I think your post raises a lot of crucial points. I myself view islam as meaning respect and benefit for all people, not an ideology of inflexible rules. Individually i can try to 'correct' the idea that islam is terrorism by my views, lifestyle and dealing with people who dont know about islam in a humane, honest and decent manner. Now here is the crunch ! If i continue to believe in certain hadiths and interpretations of the quran(while side-lining rationality,common-sense,human considerations and conscience) then even open-minded people may find this religion harmful. eg; amputations, stonings, marriage rules, apostacy rules, intolerance of other view-points,rules on black dogs, chosen people going to heaven, eternal hell etc.. would you convert to a religion with all these inconsistencies? I think some of the muslims(including myself) need to look long and hard at what they believe, and how some beliefs can be irrational and very harmful.
    Peace all.

      Hi,

I agree with you and enq. I really think that the muslims do not know much about the quran, and its the fact that on the last day the prophet gonna say that they left the book. I think that once they go back to the quran as the only way to suceed then things will get better. Now a days the muslims are muhamadans and the terror associated reflect their wrong understanding of Islam.

      Hope things get better.

Peace jhamza and all. Some of the current and past interpretations of quran and hadith are clearly not acceptable to many people, beacause they involve acts of oppression, violence, misogyny, scientific absurdity and contradictions. I would ask members of the forum(especially scientists) what new scientific, technological or humanitarian systems have these interpretations achieved in the last 100 years? What has been contributed to disease control, human happiness, reduction of war, human rights etc..?
How did the west achieve technological advance, better political systems, medical breakthroughs, educational institutions? Was it with the hadith or quran? Or did they use their intellect as well as previous knowledge? I feel some of us muslims are living in a dream world of literal interpretation of quran/hadith without using intellect and other available knowledge. I was saddened by one post which stated that someone needed evidence from the quran for not beating/abusing kids shock Surely this is common-sense. (by the way ming-lo i mean no dis-respect to your post, and i do sympathise very much with your post-i hope it turns out well for your family. ) ) Peace all.

Peace jhamza and all. Take a look at the hadith sections on the forum named; a) 'lets make a list of revolting hadiths' & b) 'can the hadiths be wrong'. These two sections contain a long list of hadiths which if taken literally can lead to a lot of harm. shock shock
              Peace all.

                Peace "bmbmm",

                Hi,

And you think this makes sense viz. "the fact that on the last day the prophet gonna say that they left the book"? Is the prophet still living on earth after 1400 years and somehow witnessing people in the 21st century leaving the book? How could he complain about people living on earth now?

                Hmmm...

                  Salam,

Let's not demonize every single muslim since 1400 years ago. In my opinion according to the quran what makes a person good muslim is if he/she believes in the God, the hereafter and do good works. So even a sunni can still be a good muslim if none of his doings or beliefs dont violate quranic criteria of leading a righteous life. (There are sectarian muslims who do think hadith is from God yet they won't implement them in reality, therefore they still qualify to be a righteous muslim)

Also the ticket to God's paradise is not merely whether you believe the right pilgrimage site is in Mecca or Jerusalem.

And we must not forget no matter how wrong muslims might be 1000 years ago they were still the most tolerant and civilised people on earth at the time. wink
