Just a suggestion that the more common "There is no god but God" is not a very clean way of explaining this simple concept.
The problem is with the "but". "But" is essentially a word meaning 'contrary to expectation' (as if the expectation is that there are many gods) and this underlying shade of meaning as well as the flow of the statement with "but" is problematic in my view.
A more correct statement in my view is
"There is no god other than the God".
This statement is crystal clear in its sense and contains a simplicity and straightforwardness that is unmatched by "but" or "except" which is also used sometimes.
I hope we can adopt this as the better English form for the statement of monotheism.
