Peace mz357. I believe all creatures(man, material, animals, rivers, water etc.) have a limited free-will to comply or not. I think this defines 'individuality' and 'being'(and seperates one 'entity' from another).
'I will therefore i am'. D
Peace all. -
Salaams Br,
yes we can say this about men as i think we are told something like this in the quran but
you said "material, animals, rivers, water" where does it tell about the free will of these - if you know?
Salaams.

Peace mz357. Well for myself this interpretation is from my own understanding and interaction with the world.
If you want a reference from the quran then there is the verse in the quran about the heavens and the earth being asked to come together 'willingly' or un-'willingly'.(maybe in baqarah) Also the end of surah 33(i think) where man takes up the trust while the mountains refuse it out of fear.
By extension these verses are implying that these entities have some free-will or otherwise the commands are contradictory.(why would god issue a 'suggestion' if he knows that it will definately be followed as there is no alternative but to follow him-;this is more like the behaviour of a dictator). Hope this helps. -
Peace be upon you MZ,
This is also something I've been struggling with. Good and Evil are complementary, without one there cannot be another. Therefore, in order for there to be Good, Evil must exist. Thus, there must be evil people in the world. You cannot have noise, without there being silence.People speak as if, there is a battle between good and evil, and if evil wins, we'll all be screwed. However, in the history of mankind, has evil always completely shut out Good, and vice versa? They need each other, there is no way one can disappear, and the illusion of a battle will keep going. I've read a lot of Alan Watts' stuff, and it deals with a number of these issues.
An interesting point he raises, is this Imagine that you are able to dream a different dream that you want, every single night, for infinity. You control what the dream will be. Most people would start off by dreaming of having all the money in the world, all the girls (I guess guys, if you're a girl), all the cars and so on. However, eventually this would get boring, say after having 100 of these same dreams. You would therefore start wanting your dreams to be more and more exciting and surprising. Eventually, you would decide that you aren't going to know what your dream will be, and it will be a complete surprise. You would then have dreams of coming close to death, dreams of Good almost losing to Evil, and every time you wake up you'd say "woww, that was really a close call". Maybe thats what life is, and when we wake up we realize we were doing everything to ourself, so there really was no victim. In effect, we are God, getting lost in our creation.
This was just paraphrasing what I read, and I'm sure you can google him and find more of his articles. I personally, really don't buy into the whole idea that we are God, but I find this line of reasoning very interesting at the same time.

Salaams peace, enquirer,zulf,
some nice info;
zulf said "
but if you program a computer to do something, it will... it submitts to your will... it has to submit.... there is no choice involved."
submit = to yield/to surrender/to suffer without complaint.
My point is that as a computer or a pen doesn't have a choice how can you say it submits.Doesn't one submit if they don't have to but do anyway? like descend .
Don't we simply use these things for benefit -with intelect?
But a horse submits as it lets us ride it when it doesn't have to.
So you have taught it to submit.
And Br enquirer mentioned the heavens and the earth good point ,but then again they may not be that - as they are creating a sort of a cntradiction as Agent explained in a post.
Thanks ya all.

Peace mz357 all. The computer has limited free-will,it rebels when there is a virus or it breaks-down. What was the contradiction you mentioned by 'agent'? I would say no being has 'complete' control over any other being, only partial. You cannot destroy another beings limited free-will.
Peace all. -
Salaams enquirer,

you said "The computer has limited free-will,it rebels when there is a virus or it breaks-down"
and this is a joke right?
God Bless.

Peace mz357. Im serious brother. In my opinion who are we to say we(humans) are the only creatures with will/life? I believe even an atom, ant, rock, machine, dust has life and limited free-will. Can you make your car obey you all the time?
peace.
