    As SAlaam Alaikum,

So throughout my life I have held the belief that if you commit more sins than good deeds then you are going to go to hell. LIke that's just the way it has been explained to me...

Like some sort of contest. Do more good deeds=heaven. Do more bad deed= hell.

I remember being a little girl and being frusturated with my mom and saying, "Mommy it's so easy to commit sins! How can I possibly commit good deeds consistantly?'' Like I was afraid I was losing the contest (lol).

She basically was like, "Well everytime you smile at someone, that may be a good deed. And all the time when you have good behavior and not getting into trouble, etc, etc".....

Basically I just found it possible to "count" my good deeds, not becuase it may be impossible, but because I coudlnt' tell what was being counted and not. lol.

But here's the thing... I don't think that I have ever really read anything the Quran that actually said this though... at least not explained in this way at all. I can't recall, I can't remmeber... but it may be out there (i haven't read the whole Quran by the way).

So based on the Quran alone... how is determination of if you're going to hell or heaven determined??

    salaam

And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight is heavy in the balance -it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; whereas those whose weight is light in the balance - it is they who will have squandered their own selves by their wilful rejection of Our messages!

          Peace NoProgressive,

Think of this life as the process for which you will be building your own eternity. All the good you do brings more light into your life, into your soul, and sunsequently, into the lives and souls of those around you. And everything bad you do, dims that light. In the end, you will either shine or you won't.

You know the good because it warms you, it feels right, it feels uplifting and energizing. It makes you feel lighter. And the opposite holds true for the bad. It weighs you down as you spend energy trying to justify it in your own mind. It takes your focus away from the good things that surround you.

          Peace,
          Tay
