Head coverings

Do any of you believe in covering the head with some type of hat when doing salaat or any prayers or meditations?
I have read all of The Koran once (alhamdulillah!) and I am currently reading it again and shall finish it again (inshaAllah). Never in The Koran have I come across a passage that says we are to cover our heads during prayer, salaat, or meditation.
Anyway, I do find the symbolism of covering the head to be nice. Jewish men cover their heads as a sign of respect; it represents God being superior to man and that we are to follow Him only. In the West it is a sign of respect to remove your hat, but in Judaism and with some Muslims it is respecful to have the head covered.
If you cover, what do you use? Some use one of those Muslim skullcaps that look like a bigger yarmulke, some wear a roundish hat that I heard has origins in Afghanistan, some wear a turban, some wear a keffiyeh, and it's even alright to wear your lucky red hat or a beret even.
For a couple of days I wore a homemade keffiyeh (lol) but my head got too hot from it. Then I went to wearing my black beret which is 50% wool (not good either). And right now, I do not cover.
Any thoughts?

No I dont believe its a commanded thing to do,as its not mentioned in the Quran as you have noticed,But again the Quran doesnt say we cant wear a head covering either.So if one chooses to or not is left up to the individual.Also on a personal note,I think its a neat custom and think customs should be respected if they dont contradict Quranic principles.But if the custom is put before the Quran then it can cause problems.Nothing should be put before Allah and His Truth-the Quran.

I agree, customs should be respected and they are neat to keep. Head covering doesn't contradict The Koran and obviously cannot be placed before everything else written in it.
It is also not in the Hebrew Bible to wear head coverings either. However, the Karaite Jews (scripture and God alone) wear the yarmulke because of it being a custom among Jews.
I believe the same thing is with facial hair. I have my sideburns going down to the bottom of my jaw and the hair continues to my goatee. I have my beard not because it's "hadith" or anything, for me it's pretty much a custom and it's my taste.
By the way, it should be obvious that the guy in my avatar is NOT me. lol

Yeah thats true you dont fnd in the Judeo-Christian Texts and command for men to cover their heads,but their is one place that says women should pray with their heads covered in the Christians Text.
Same here about the facial hair,Its not in Quran,and is up to the person.I now have a slim beard going from sideburns down to bottom of jaw then toward the chin,but its because I like the look. D
