WHAT IS QURAN ACCORDING TO QURAN?
-
Peace all,
This is my understanding
Why the book was revealed, .38 1. Suad, I swear by the Quran, FULL OF ADMONITION.
-
(Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, FULL OF BLESSINGS, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding MAY RECEIVE ADMONITION.
-
It is nothing BUT A REMINDER TO THE NATIONS;
-
And We have not taught him poetry, nor is it meet for him; IT IS NOTHING BUT A REMINDER AND A PLAIN QURAN,
-
(It is) a Qur'an in Arabic, without any crookedness (therein) in order that THEY MAY GUARD AGAINST EVIL.
-
That IT MAY WARN HIM WHO WOULD HAVE LIFE, and (that) the word may prove true against the unbelievers.
-
We have put forth for men, in this Qur'an every kind of Parable, in order THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE ADMONITION.
20 2. We have not sent down the Qur'an to thee to be (an occasion) for thy distress,
20 3. But ONLY AS AN ADMONITION TO THOSE WHO FEAR (Allah),27 1. These are verses of the Qur'an,-a book that makes (things) clear;
27 2. A GUIDE and GLAD TIDINGS FOR THE BELIEVERS,-
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember then IS THERE ANY THAT WILL RECEIVE ADMONITION?
-
But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember then IS THERE ANY THAT WILL RECEIVE ADMONITION?
-
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember then IS THERE ANY THAT WILL RECEIVE ADMONITION?
-
And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember then IS THERE ANY THAT WILL RECEIVE ADMONITION?
-
We have explained (things) in various (ways) in this Qur'an, in order THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE ADMONITION, but it only increases their flight (from the Truth)!
-
Is it not enough for them that We have revealed to you the Book which is recited to them? MOST SURELY THERE IS MERCY IN THIS AND A REMINDER FOR A PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE.
WHAT WAS THE DUTY OF THE MESSENGERS ACCORDING TO THE BOOK.
MESSENGER ACCORDING TO QURAN.
2792. And to rehearse the Qur'an and if any accept guidance, they do it for the good of their own souls, and if any stray, say "I AM ONLY A WARNER".-
And that I should recite the Quran. Therefore whoever goes aright, he goes aright for his own soul, and whoever goes ' astray, then say I AM ONLY ONE OF THE WARNERS.
-
Say "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. THE MESSENGER'S DUTY IS ONLY TO PREACH THE CLEAR (MESSAGE).
-
O Prophet! Truly We have sent thee AS A WITNESS, A BEARER OF GLAD TIDINGS, and WARNER,
48 8. We have truly sent thee AS A WITNESS, AS A BRINGER OF GLAD TIDINGS, and AS A WARNER
- And We have not sent you but to all the men AS A BEARER OF GOOD NEWS and AS A WARNER, but most men do not know.
11 2. That you shall not serve (any) but Allah; SURELY I AM A WARNER FOR YOU FROM HIM and A GIVER OF GOOD NEWS,
-
And We send not messengers but AS ANNOUNCERS OF GOOD NEWS and GIVERS OF WARNING, then whoever believes and acts aright, they shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve.
-
And they say Why are not signs sent down upon him from his Lord? Say The signs are only with Allah, and I AM ONLY A PLAIN WARNER.
46 9. Say I am no new thing among the messengers (of Allah), nor know I what will be done with me or with you. I do but follow that which is inspired in me, and I AM BUT A PLAIN WARNER.
-
And you were not on this side of the mountain when We called, but a mercy from your Lord THAT YOU MAY WARN A PEOPLE TO WHOM NO WARNER CAME BEFORE YOU, that they may be mindful.
-
Remind them, for thou art but A REMEMBRANCER,
-
Thou art not at all A WARDER OVER THEM.
-
We know best what they say, and YOU ARE NOT ONE TO COMPEL THEM; therefore REMIND HIM by means of the Quran WHO FEARS MY THREAT.
MUHAMMED= WARNER ? ANNOUNCER OF GOOD NEWS
PAST MESSENGERS
-
NOTHING IS SAID TO THEE that was not said to the messengers before thee THAT THY LORD HAS AT HIS COMMAND (ALL) FORGIVENESS as well as A MOST GRIEVOUS PENALTY.
-
Mankind was one single nation, and ALLAH SENT MESSENGERS WITH GLAD TIDINGS AND WARNINGS; and with them He sent the Book in truth, TO JUDGE BETWEEN PEOPLE IN MATTERS WHEREIN THEY DIFFERED;
THE BOOK AS THE CRITERION WHICH DISTINGUISHES BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG
- O ye who believe! if ye fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion (to judge between right and wrong), remove from you (all) evil (that may afflict) you, and forgive you for Allah is the Lord of grace unbounded.
25 1. Blessed is He Who hath revealed unto His slave THE CRITERION (of right and wrong), that he may be a warner to the peoples.
?O Rasool He has sent you this revelation based upon truth, which will validate the claims made in previous scriptures.? Allah had previously sent the Torah and the Bible WHICH CONTAINED GUIDANCE FOR MANKIND. Now, He has sent down this Book WHICH DISTINGUISHES BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG.?
THE DIVINE CODE
Those who will reject this DIVINE CODE will suffer grievously according to Allah?s Law of Mukaf?at. None can escape its grip. There is nothing in the universe which is hidden from Allah.-
(Such revolutions had also taken place through the previous Anbia. For example) To Moses and Aaron We revealed the Code of Laws which was the distinct discriminator between right and wrong. It was a source of guidance and honour for those wanting to be safe from the evil effects of life;
-
That is for those who feared the unseen consequences of their denial of the DIVINE LAW. They trembled at the very thought of the coming revolution.
-
Now this Quran, WHICH IS A DIVINE CODE OF LAWS, has been revealed by Us and it stands surety to the pleasures of life. Will you even reject this?
So According to my understanding
THE BOOK = A REMINDER-- FOR ADMONITION ?- FOR GLAD TIDINGS FOR THE BELIEVERS-- TO HELP US TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG-- A DIVINE CODE OF LAW.ALL MESSENGER = WARNERS ? GIVERS OF GOOD NEWS
WHAT IS THE DIVINE LAW ACCORDING TO THE BOOK
6- Al-An'am
151-Say Come, I will recite unto you that which your Lord hath made a sacred duty for you
THAT YOU ASCRIBE NO THING AS PARTNER UNTO HIM and
THAT YOU SHALL BE GOOD TO YOUR PARENTS, and
THAT YOU SLAY NOT YOUR CHILDREN BECAUSE OF POVERTY--We provide for you and for them--and
AVOID SIN IN FORM AND SPIRIT. And
THAT YOU SLAY NOT THE LIFE WHICH ALLAH HATH MADE SACRED, except for a just cause. This He has commanded you, in order that you may learn wisdom152-AND APPROACH NOT THE WEALTH OF THE ORPHAN EXCEPT WITH THAT WHICH IS BETTER; till he reach maturity.
GIVE FULL MEASURE and FULL WEIGHT, in JUSTICE. We task not any soul beyond its scope. AND
BE FAIR WHEN YOU GIVE YOUR VERDICT EVEN IF IT IS AGAINST YOUR OWN RELATIVES; and FULFIL THE COVENANT OF ALLAH. This He commands you that you may take heed.153-And (He commands you, saying)
THIS IS MY STRAIGHT PATH, SO FOLLOW IT Follow not other ways, for if you do,
They will lead you away from His path
This He commands you that you may be righteous.peace.

peace all,
THE BELIEVERS
23 1. Successful indeed are the believers,
23 2. Who are humble in their prayers,
23 3. And who keep aloof from what is vain,
23 4. And who are givers of poor-rate,
23 5. And who guard their private parts,
23 6. Except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable,
23 7. But whoever seeks to go beyond that, these are they that exceed the limits;
23 8. And those who are keepers of their trusts and their covenant,
23 9. And those who keep a guard on their prayers;
2310. These are they who are the heirs,
2311. Who shall inherit the Paradise; they shall abide therein.THE SERVANTS OF ALLAH
2563.And the servants of the Beneficent Allah are they who walk on the earth in humbleness, and when the ignorant address them, they say Peace.
2564. And they who pass the night prostrating themselves before their Lord and standing.
2565. And they who say O our Lord! turn away from us the punishment of hell, surely the punishment thereof is a lasting
2566. Surely it is an evil abode and (evil) place to stay.
2567. And they who when they spend, are neither extravagant nor parsimonious, and (keep) between these the just mean.
2568. And they who do not call upon another god with Allah and do not slay the soul, which Allah has forbidden except in the requirements of justice, and (who) do not commit fornication and he who does this shall find a requital of sin;
2569. The punishment shall be doubled to him on the day of resurrection, and he shall abide therein in abasement;
2570. Except him who repents and believes and does a good deed; so these are they of whom Allah changes the evil deeds to good ones; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
2571. And whoever repents and does good, he surely turns to Allah a (goodly) turning.
2572. And they who do not bear witness to what is false, and when they pass by what is vain, they pass by nobly.
2573. And they who, when reminded of the communications of their Lord, do not fall down thereat deaf and blind.
2574. And they who say O our Lord! grant us in our wives and our offspring the joy of our eyes, and make us guides to those who guard (against evil).
2575. These shall be rewarded with high places because they were patient, and shall be met therein with greetings and salutations.
2576. Abiding therein; goodly the abode and the resting-place.peace.

Peace zenje,
Are you asking these questions?.. or putting a point across? Please clarify.
Sorry brother if I couldn?t make it clear, this is what I think is/was the true purpose of the book and the reason why it was revealed.
I think it was revealed so that society/people, weak/strong, poor/rich, black/white may all live in harmony and peace by obeying these simple and clear laws of God, which are for all time, all places, truly universal. I believe these laws are the essence of Quran.
The punishment mentioned in the book is also only for those who violate these fundamental laws.
However this is what I have understood from the book, other brothers/sisters have their own understanding of the book so their questions/input will be welcomed.
I hope I have made it clear.
God bless you,
Peace. -
Salam brother agent
So if the quran says about itself as such, what do you think of those who reject it and say it is the words of man?
also bro good post about the believers and the servants of God, i guess no one can be a servant of God unless they become a believer first, now how to become a believer?, this is the question. The verses you posted from sura 23 are relating to who are the believers NOT how to become a believer really, therefore I ask you this question brother agent, can you please tell me how to become a believer from the Quran?
Peace
-
Salam brother Ahmed,
So if the quran says about itself as such, what do you think of those who reject it and say it is the words of man?
- Tell those who believe to forgive those who hope not for the days of Allah; in order that He may requite folk what they used to earn.
- WHOSO DOETH RIGHT, it is for his soul, and WHOSO DOETH WRONG, it is against it. And afterward unto your Lord ye will be brought back.
I will disagree with them where I have to but I will also keep in mind that they have their own reasons to believe in what they believe; they themselves will be answerable to Allah in the end? I am not answerable for other people?s belief so why should their rejection worry me or be of any importance to me? of course I will discuss with them their reasons, and present to them my own reasons, understanding and logic, but if there is no agreement then that?s it brother.
Brother the best control that I can have is over myself, but I can?t even fully control my own self, my own desires/thinking/reactions etc, so how can I control the way other people think and believe? I have yet to conquer my own self and root out the evil in me bro, so please forgive me for I will pass no judgment on them, firstly because that can only satisfy my own ego, but it wont be helpful in changing the thinking of the others. Secondly I think I have no authority to do that; it?s for the lord of the Day of Judgment to decide that, my job is to take care of my own belief/deeds
- O you who believe! TAKE CARE OF YOUR SOULS; he who errs cannot hurt you when you are on the right way; to Allah is your return, of all (of you), so He will inform you of what you did.
This is what the messenger is being told in the book
5045. We know best what they say, and YOU ARE NOT ONE TO COMPEL THEM; therefore REMIND HIM by means of the Quran WHO FEARS MY THREAT.-
Therefore DO REMIND, for you are ONLY A REMINDER.
-
You are NOT A WATCHER OVER THEM;
-
Remind them, for thou art but A REMEMBRANCER,
-
Thou art not at all A WARDER OVER THEM.
-
Therefore continue to remind, for by the grace of your Lord, YOU ARE NOT A SOOTHSAYER, or a MADMAN5230. Or do they say A POET, we wait for him the evil accidents of time.
-
Say WAIT, FOR SURELY I TOO WITH YOU AM OF THOSE WHO WAIT.
-
Whether We let thee see something of that which We have promised them, or make thee die (before its happening), THINE IS BUT CONVEYANCE (OF THE MESSAGE). OURS THE RECKONING.
the important issue is to keep on coveying the message.
also bro good post about the believers and the servants of God, i guess no one can be a servant of God unless they become a believer first, now how to become a believer?, this is the question. The verses you posted from sura 23 are relating to who are the believers NOT how to become a believer really, therefore I ask you this question brother agent, can you please tell me how to become a believer from the Quran?
Thanks brother ),
-
Say O people! if you are in doubt as to my religion, then (know that) I DO NOT SERVE THOSE WHOM YOU SERVE BESIDES ALLAH BUT I DO SERVE ALLAH, Who will cause you to die, and I AM COMMANDED THAT I SHOULD BE OF THE BELIEVERS.
-
And that you should keep your course towards the religion uprightly; and YOU SHOULD NOT BE OF THE POLYTHEISTS.
-
And DO NOT CALL BESIDES ALLAH ON THAT WHICH CAN NEITHER BENEFIT YOU NOR HARM YOU, for if you do THEN SURELY YOU WILL IN THAT CASE BE OF THE UNJUST.
-
ALLAH, THERE IS NO GOD BUT HE; and UPON ALLAH, THEN, LET THE BELIEVERS RELY.
God bless you,
Peace. -

That is for those who feared the unseen consequences of their denial of the DIVINE LAW. They trembled at the very thought of the coming revolution.

I was reading through the beautiful compilation of the verses while I compared the translations you have quoted with the five widely followed translations. I must say that the translations from GM PERVAIZ seem to be very different. I am not an arabic speaking person but I did not find the words "pleasures of life" in any other translations of 2150.

peace phoenix1,
can you give me verses which confirm that the quran is the direct word of God and it is perfect?
-
It is not fitting for a man THAT ALLAH SHOULD SPEAK TO HIM EXCEPT BY INSPIRATION, OR FROM BEHIND A VEIL, OR BY THE SENDING OF A MESSENGER TO REVEAL, with Allah's permission, what Allah wills for He is Most High, Most Wise.
-
And thus have We, by Our Command, sent inspiration to thee thou knewest not (before) what was Revelation, and what was Faith; but We have made the (Qur'an) a Light, wherewith We guide such of Our servants as We will; and verily thou dost guide (men) to the Straight Way,-
-
Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms;
-
And messengers We have mentioned unto thee before and messengers We have not mentioned unto thee; and Allah spake directly unto Moses;
as you can see in verse 4251 it is said that "it is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak directly to him" so i dont know how to explain "the direct words of God".
please also check 5029/1064/16101
i hope that some other brothers/sisters at this forum answers your question in a much better way, as i myself am a bit confused on this issue ???.

peace OracleMir,
I was reading through the beautiful compilation of the verses while I compared the translations you have quoted with the five widely followed translations. I must say that the translations from GM PERVAIZ seem to be very different. I AM NOT AN ARABIC SPEAKING PERSON but I did not find the words "pleasures of life" in any other translations of 2150.
Brother thank you very much for pointing it out , this is the problem every non-Arabic speaker has to face while trying to understand the book. We have to depend upon the translation only, and they have lots of different variants, which are not only confusing but at times make you skeptical also.
I started reading quran in Urdu, which is our national language I faced the same problem.
What you are doing is the only way for people like us to get a clear picture. I have downloaded almost every translation I could find on the Internet and then I compare the verses under discussion, I also try and check them in Urdu translations that I have and then go with what the majority agrees upon. That is the only way for people like us to see a clear picture.
If you see the translations, which were done before the 80s and compare them with the translations, which were done after the 80s, you will note that the recent translators have translated/interpreted many verses in complete contrast to the past scholars. Not only in words but in essence too.
So all I can say is ?God knows best?.here are translations of the same verses by some of the other scholars

Those who fear their Lord without seeing Him, while they are afraid of the Hour. KhanWho fear their Lord in secret and they are fearful of the Hour. Maulana
who fear their unseen Lord and are anxious about the Day of Judgment. Sarwar
Those who fear their Lord in secret, and who dread the Hour of judgment. Sherali
Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the Hour (of Judgment) in awe. Yusufali

This (Quran) which We have revealed is a blessed reminder. Will you then deny it? Sarwar
And this Qur'an which WE have sent down is a blessed Reminder; will you then reject it? Sherali

Thanks for the detailed reply.
Yes you right agent. I can understand urdu. This is my mother tongue as well.
I agree with you that non-arabic students of Quran have to go through extra efforts to gain understanding. My sincere thanks to arabic speaking users in this forum who have helped me a lot.
I have seen translators putting their extra 2 cents in the translations and hence making them interpretations rather than pure translations. For example Molana Maudodi has translated "azwaaj" as "females" rather than "spouses". I have been burned by these interpretators in the past. I tried coming close to Quran but then after reading these so called translations I was repelled away. But when I made my second attempt after few years, I was felt so much attraction in this book that I could have never imagined. Pure translation is what we need.
You are certainly doing a great job in analyzing the book by themes!

sorry to disagree with you brother, please check 3306 where he translates azwaaj as spouses. The English translation of maudodi that I have got is not complete, only first 24 chapters, so I couldn?t post the verse.

Yes indeed, but the problem is, which translation is considered pure?
You know what? Amongst the Urdu translations i think moudodi's translation is easy. Also fateh muhammed's.You are certainly doing a great job in analyzing the book by themes!
Thanks brother, please check this link, it has two Urdu translations and 4 English.

Maudodi has translated "azwajun mutahharatun" in 225 to "pak beebyaan" in his urdu translation. I have seen printed copies. "pak beebyaan" means pure female companions, while "azwajun mutahharatun" means pure spouses.
Good to know that he has translated it correctly in English translations.

Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).
PICKTHAL And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with food of the fruit thereof, they say this is what was given us aforetime; and it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there for ever they abide.
SHAKIR And convey good news to those who believe and do good deeds, that they shall have gardens in which rivers flow; whenever they shall be given a portion of the fruit thereof, they shall say This is what was given to us before; and they shall be given the like of it, and they shall have pure mates in them, and in them, they shall abide.
KHALIFA Give good news to those who believe and lead a righteous life that they will have gardens with flowing streams. When provided with a provision of fruits therein, they will say, "This is what was provided for us previously." Thus, they are given allegorical descriptions. They will have pure spouses therein, and they abide therein forever. -

The translation of Moudodi?s ?TAHFEEM UL QURAN? in English is done by ?Zafar Ansari?
I have this verse 225 in front of me and it says

You said beveyain = spouse. Is that the literal meaning in urdu lughat (dictionary)? Because I have been speaking urdu through out my life and to me
bivi=wife (singular)
beveyain=wives (plural)
shoher= husband (both singular and plural)
jorha=couple (singular)
jorhe=couples (plural)
saathi=partner (both singular and plura)To me "beveyain" is not equal to "spouses". In fact it would look wierd if we use "beveyain" for spouses in urdu.
This is what we use in common language. Perhaps I am unaware if bivi also means spouse in Urdu dictionary. Is that what you are saying?
Also the translation has used the word "beveyain" in feminine context "beveyain hoen gi". If the translator had meant spouses then he had used a mascular context "beveyain hoon gay". What do you think?
