my path to islam - a short version
-
i have always been a spiritual person, and have had tremendous faith. i believe it's my spiritual inheritance from my dad's mother.
i've been ostracized by my family because of it, i've been hated by my family because of it, been committed to a psyche ward for it and have had my son taken away from me for it.
i'd never even heard the word "islam" before.
i'd heard of the koran - thought it was the jewish bible - you can laugh. it's true.
i don't even recall ever hearing the word "muslim" before.
i had heard the name mohammad before, in that saying about the mountain and mohammad.
needless to say, i didn't have a clue.the first time i really heard about, islam, muslims, the quran, was after i met my husband.. (Jahswolf)
he talked about the muslims and the quran and how beautiful and holy it all was. he'd read a quran when he was younger.i'm thinking, hmmmmm. ok, honey. i love you, go ahead, spend the $15.00 and get a quran.
i really didn't think a whole lot about it.i was 43, my kids were "grown" and gone, i'd been through the deluges, had been homelsss, and had been disowned by my family. our circumstances were not good, but, we both knew god was in this and we were going to be ok, no matter what happened.
i started reading the quran. got on line and started chatting with other muslims.
after a month i knew i wanted to say my shahadda. well before my husband did. though the stinker went ahead and said his before me when i was at work. i made him say his again, with me.i didn't have alot of the issues, that a lot of christians do when considering islam. it was easy for me and felt so natural - i just knew. i just know, about lots of things. can't explain it, just know it.
anyways, i truly believe god lead me to islam because i needed peace in my life. i needed to have many burdens lifted off of me, i needed to heal. and god said, "janet, you're ready to begin"
so for me, islam is a privilege, a blessing, a mercy and a gift from my creator.
when i remember all of these things and remember the feelings, i get so overwhelmed by emotions i weep. i read the quran and the tears start, i pray and i cry. my faith, my islam is very personal and dear to me. ~ and i don't tend to share a whole lot because of this.i love my creator, allah, and i love his words.
may peace and blessings be upon you all
