    Peace all

How does 1625 line up with 5338?

1625 They shall bear their burdens undiminished on the Resurrection Day, with part of the burdens of those whom they misled without this revealed knowledge. Ah, evil is what they bear!

5338 That no laden one shall bear the load of another.

Can someone please explain what they think of these verses? It seems that the context of 5338 is referring to Moses' teachings? Well, any help is appreciated.

P.S. I don't want this thread turning into another is-the-quran-divine? debate. I came across the verses and am asking so I can gain a better understanding, whichever way it may lead me. That is the sole purpose of this thread. Thanks.

    Peace

It can only mean that a person who is ignorant carries no blame. For instance, supposing someone made an innovation in the religion (which happens in rural/isolated areas, in my experience), and claimed it was from God - they would be misleading others who have no knowledge of scripture and no method to distinguish between God's system and human innovation (cough...).

Another case would be someone who knows nothing about islam asking a fraudster, who will quote X and Y verses out of context to assert that islam is a religion of violence, and hence turn away the person seeking knowledge, from islam. Can the people being misled be held responsible for that, when they have no knowledge? So, the burden is thus shifted, in other words, people will be questioned for what they have actual knowledge of (God doesn't ask us about what previous people did - 2132-141; You will be questioned for what you percieved - 1736 and others). In other words, everything you are responsible for will be judged, and we have a guarantee that it will be fair (3425-26).

Now, the additional burden comes from the misleading - remember 5339, you reap what you sow, and evidently, when you seed deviation from the deen in other people, you are taking responsibility for the bad that will come as a direct result - in the same way you would be held responsible for telling a child to jump off a cliff.

Interestingly enough, we have many examples of this rubbish today.

That makes sense. So person A lies to person B regarding the deen. Person B goes on ignorantly sinning because of this. Therefore, ultimately, the sin lies with person A. Am I understanding correctly?

That's my understanding of it. Traditional commentators are a very good source for things like this.

            Yeah, it makes sense.
