Gazak Allah kheir AB
That would be great. I remember reading an aya like that as well... but how that relates to Gibreel is what I wanted to know.
I actually wanted to see how others who follow only the quran would interpret it. From what I recall I don't think there is any instance where the quran specifically mentions that Gibreel spoke to Mohamed (pbuh).. or is there such a verse?
Anyway I thought it would be interesting how anyone would interpret it in that respect. If I start hearing el RUH is just a metaphor I might pack my bags and head to mars confused LOL

297 Say Whoever is an enemy to Gabriel-for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by Allah's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe,-
Is that what you were looking for?

Salam all
I believe that the verse you are looking for isSay "Ruh-ul-Qudus has brought it down from your Lord with truth, that it may strengthen those who believe, and as a guidance and glad tidings to those who submitted ". verse 102 ch. 16
The verse before this one was about the Qur'aan, so "it" in (brought it ) alludes to the Qur'aan.
And yes, Ruh-ul-Qudus, Ruhuna (Our Ruh), al-Ruh and al-Ruh alameen (highly honourable Ruh)are all attributes to Gabriel; as well as shadeedul Quwa (mighty in power, verse 5 ch 53; 2081) and "rasoul kareem" (1981;4069).
I also believe that "rasoul" in verse 2 ch 98 alludes to Gabriel, because it says ( a messenger from Allah) not (a messenger of Allah), although traditional interpretations interpret it as "Mohammad".

Gazakom Allah kheir KGB and Samia !
I didn't realize it was blankly stated in the quran . When I was discussing this with some friends for some reason they made it seem like Ruh el Quddus is some mysterious entity that nobody can explain. I'll have to check back with them with these ayat. And yet another person explained it is the same Holy Spirit in the Christian trinity (father, son , holy spirit) - and nobody understands what the heck the trinity is - not even most christians )
Anyway thanks for the info, if there's any more pass it along please.

Thanks for your contribution man, here is another one
The Holy spirit has revealed it from your Lord with the truth, that it may establish those who believe and as a guidance and good news for those who submit.

But isn't Gibreel an angel? Or am I wrong?
Why in a few verses God says the Ruh AND the angels as if they are two separate entitites?
Example 974 but there are a couple others I found last night. I'll try and find them again

PeaceI believe that Ruh Al Qudus is a Title that was given to Gebril in the Quran, the context suggest that strongly
the verse sister myr mentioned is only talking about the soul in general and certainly the creatures sould that we can see like humans animals etc etc but not the Angels because we can;t see them

I believe that in verse 4 ch 97 "al-ruh" is again Gabriel, as in the whole Qur'aan. Yes he is an angel (or perhaps), but a very special one, given many nicknames by Allah. He is the messenger between Allah and his prophets, and he is the one who is sent by Allah to "blow" and, thus, renders the beings who do not speak or comprehend speak and comprehend (example of humanoids who are made humans / Adam; and the example of Jesus who spoke while he was being delivered; both were "blown" into, whatever that means).
This leads us to verse 85 chapter 17 ( they ask you about al-Ruh, say it is a matter of Allah's knowledge, and you "those who ask" have been given only al ittle knowledge ...). The Ruh in this verse is also Gabriel, and not "spirit" as explained in the traditional interpretation, because Allah never mentioned "spirit" for creatures or humans, but spoke of "nafs" literally self, whose departure of the body causes death. Again, "nafs" is not attributed to other than humans in the Qur'aan (no mention of animals, e.g., having "nafs".

Sister samia
please be aware the verse about the Ruh was a reply to the ones who asked the prophet "WHAT THE RUH IS" therefore they were asking about somthing they realize that leaves the body, on the other hand non of these humans who asked the prophet saw Gebril
therfore the Ruh mentioned in the question rasied to the prophet by his people is a general question about the soul and what it is eactly

Salam to you MYR Salam All
MYR Sorry I didn't see your post before ! So is it your understanding that the ruh el quddus is something unexplainable or any ruh in general as AhmedBahgat described?
Are we inferring that these nicknames refer to Gibreel? So far I only see ayat that refer to ruh el quddus but not that it is Gibreel who is ruh el quddus.
Is there an aya that states that Gibreel spoke to the Prophet Mohamed (p.b.u.h)?
Is there anyone who thinks Ruh el Quddus could be the same as the Holy Spirit of Christianity? To my understanding, Christians believe it is an unknown or unexplainable entity and is an emanation from God.

Peace be upon you all,
My understanding-
Ruh ul Qudus = Divine Energy
The difference between a dead body and a live body is the ENERGY/LIFE FORCE. The Chinese call it Qi(chi), The hindus call it kundalini, etc.
The root word fo "Ruh" also gives us Wind and Scent/Smell. Wind is that which MOVES THINGS. That is what your Emotions do. Emotions (energy in motion) attracts you to that which gives you pleasure and repels you from that which gives you pain. Smell is one of the most powerful attractors and retractors. Those who wake up in the morning and smell breakfast cooking, or go into a smelly bathroom can verify this.
The point is we are dealing with THAT which moves things.
The "ruh" is connected greatly with Isa, son of Mariam, who represents the WILL of man. The WILL is your faculty of freedom, your faculty to DECIDE. But to carry out what we will requires ENERGY (emotions). It requires MOTIVE FORCE/motivation.
The WILL(Jesus) is ASSISTED by MOTIVE FORCE, the Divine Energy that is BLOWN into the human vehicle.
This is a message of guidance for human behavior, not some story about fairies with wings.
Just think about your life, you WILL yourself to do many things, but you dont always do it, because you are not being assisted with your ENERGIES/EMOTIONS. You want to stop eating junk food but there is an ENERGY pushing you to eat junk food based on your conditionings. You WILL to stop smoking but you keep on smoking because there is no energy cultivated to assist your WILL.
Once you change what is in your NAFS(spirit/mind), that is, change your attitude, then your energies GET BEHIND your WILL and carries it out for you.

My response
SalamNor had any of them seen a (spirit)!!
It is interesting that you quoted Ibn Katheer's tafseer, which confirms my point of view The Jews asked some Arabs to ask the Prophet about al-Ruh. Questions by the Jews are deeper than meer vocabulary. If they understood it as meaning (spirit), why then is the question? They did not understand it that way because they did not use it in that sense.
Moreover, those who asked him might have referred to the word being mentioned in previous verses, like where the Qur'aan says that the Ruh of Allah blew onto the (bashar) and by this action the (bashar) merited prostration by the Angels. Wouldn't such a word call for an explanation? So, the word was not alien to them.
Arabs were not known to use the term (Ruh) for spirit, but used the term (nafs) just as is used in the Qur'aan.
And as noted by Myr later, the term is used in the Qur'aan in one meaning. Nowhere in the Qur'aan is (ruh) used to mean (spirit); so why would this be an exception?
