I expect everyone of whatever conviction could share their thoughts here.
It is a well-known fact that the early Islam nation, starting from the Messenger's death, expands outside Makkah and Madinah, conquering neighbouring regions Egypt, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Persia. What I'd like to know is whether this conquest can be justified by the Qur'an. Why do I ask this? Because a Christian recently asked me, 'Why, if violence id only defensive in Islam, does the followers of Muhammad created a conquering empire? Why did they expand their territory and conquer their neighbours?'
Anyone interested in discussing this? I am also open for any non-Quranic sources that is relevant to this issue.
