I like your version of Islam...

    lol maybe you'll convert yay

It entails upholding the verses you probably think are cool and simply ignoring or rejecting the verses you may see as unpopular.

no Layth, to be honest there is NOTHING cool about ANY verse in the Quran. I don't read quran because I think it is cool, it is far from cool, not that I care ). You can't quote THAT verse in ordinary circumstances. (like the time Enq went off-topic ))

You are trying to please people while it was God all along you should have cared about pleasing.

no you are assuming that i am pleasing people. When I was a traditional Muslim and I believed that adulterers were stoned to death, the hands of thieves were amputated, homosexuals should be killed, etc. I couldn't care less about what people thought then so why should I care now.

Layth your a bloody tyrant (but i don't expect anything better from an Arab )), you can't quote that particular verse whenever you feel like it ignoring the fact that the punishment must never be worse then the crime.

9/97 The Arabs are very staunch in disbelief and hypocrisy. They do not regard the limits revealed by God to his messenger. And God is knowledgably and Judge. ignore (translated by Aidid Safar)

The Scripture has a complete take-it or leave-it approach...We either accept it all from God and try to uphold it, or we simply walk away rejecting the entire book because we disagree with some of its content.

it is also like a jigsaw puzzle, make sure you take it all in full context.

What is your say...Do you uphold all or nothing?

yes all of it, i also so like to read it in full context too!

    peace,
    sugar

I think al-quraan is the coolest. I've read some human philosophy and find them grasping at the reality of the human being. Al-quraan's discourse comes with a voice so sure of reality (and this assurance is justified) that it could only come from Allah and that is pretty darned cool.

Layth your a bloody tyrant (but i don't expect anything better from an Arab ),

In the words of David Brent (The Office 11) That's racist!

9/97 The Arabs are very staunch in disbelief and hypocrisy. They do not regard the limits revealed by God to his messenger. And God is knowledgably and Judge. (translated by Aidid Safar)

Aidid Safar was wrong here. Al-a'raabu as mentioned in 9/97 is opposite to 'ahlul-madeenah' as with the context (you like reading in context, right ? ) of 9/120. The word 'araab' referring to the Arab people can be found in 41/44, 16/103 etc. Its Aarab not al-a'raab.

17 ? 10 years ago, to find a teenage Quran-only person was unheard of. Soon we will find people growing up in a 'quran-only' environment, inshaa Allah. Such was the case of Toluislamies.

being a controversial multiple meaning scripture that leads to so much problems in it's interpretation is NOT COOL.

Layth your a bloody tyrant (but i don't expect anything better from an Arab ),

In the words of David Brent (The Office 11) That's racist!

I quoted from the Quran to justify my hostility towards the Arabs.

Layth quoted a highly controversial verse when Enquirer was off-topic. And he accused me of hypocrisy because i disagreed with the context he used it in.

Its Aarab not al-a'raab.

come off it! That is the best translation i have ever seen of that verse ignore

He even explained why he translated it like that in his book.

                        Peace,

You can\\\'t quote THAT verse in ordinary circumstances

If you have some knowledge to share on how and where the verse under diuscussion is to be used, then please share it...However, simply whinning about a verse because you may not like its application does not negate the fact that the verse exists and that believers in the book of the Almighty are obliged to accept it.

Layth your a bloody tyrant (but i don\\\'t expect anything better from an Arab ), you can\\\'t quote that particular verse whenever you feel like it ignoring the fact that the punishment must never be worse then the crime.

Hmm, I am a tyrant because you did not like a verse that was being quoted (should we just delete it with the help of our old friend Abu Huraira?)...

Better to be a tyrant than to pick & chose from God`s book.

`But then here you are killing each other and driving out a group of you from their homes; you act towards them with evil and animosity. And if they come to you as prisoners, you ransom them while it was forbidden for you to drive them out! Do you believe in some of the Scripture and disbelieve in some? The punishment for those amongst you who do so is humiliation in this worldly life, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be returned to the most severe retribution. God is not unaware of what you all do. (285)

9/97 The Arabs are very staunch in disbelief and hypocrisy. They do not regard the limits revealed by God to his messenger. And God is knowledgably and Judge. (translated by Aidid Safar)

Yes, birds of a feather do indeed flock together...Nice to see you quoting a racist to justify your own racism against arabic speaking people.

Had you had the integrity (which you lack) you would not dare play this game of twisting God`s verses into managled meanings so as to justify your own racist stand.

                        Aaraab = Nomads

Look-up the verses that use this occurance...Oh, I forgot, you only take that which you like and ignore/mangle that which does not serve your purpose.

Layth, remember she is 17............. don\\\'t take it to serious....

                        Would you bet on that?

Someone who lies about God and twsists His words can very easily lie about his identity.

Sugarbeing a controversial multiple meaning scripture that leads to so much problems in it's interpretation is NOT COOL.

Al-quraan has a clear-cut method for its reader to acquire the right meaning. Controversy comes when we abandon this method in favour of methods we create ourselves. Wrongful interpretations always create contradictions.

I quoted from the Quran to justify my hostility towards the Arabs

No, you quoted Aidid's interpretation of an ayat. An interpretation he's unable to defend. I've personally forwarded this to him when I was part of the editorial team for the first edition of Arab Conspiracies.

come off it! That is the best translation i have ever seen of that verse

Then can YOU explain why, when al-quraan speaks of its language and the people who first recieves it, it uses a whole other word (Aarab instead of al-a'raabu). Can you explain why the 'al' is in 'al-a'raabu' when 'al' in Arabic cannot refer to a proper name? We need you to explain because Aidid cannot.

                                      Sugar kay you win...

While it's not about 'winning', I'm very glad you see the point. I consider Aidid to be an excellent student of al-quraan and it was he who pushed the envelop some years ago. However, this racist interpretations of his really diminished his credibility.

but the Quran is still not cool it never has been and never will be.

Depends on your definition of cool. Since there's no furqaan about 'coolness', there's no basis for argument.

                                        Sorry Layth!

It does not bother me what you have said (I have been called worse)...And I am surely no angel

What did bother me was the way you allowed your negative feelings towards arab speaking people to quote Aidid who altered God`s words to say what God never said.

'Simple' sent me a copy of his book. From what I have read so far it is very good.

However, this racist interpretations of his really diminished his credibility.

                                          i disagree....

                                          On that last paragraph on the introduction of the book he says;
"Most importantly I do not wish to cause offence to any reader and i would be grateful if this aspect of my delivery were regarded as deriving purely from the strength of my conviction"

                                          peace,
                                          sugar
