has studied religions at Santa Clara University, has a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Fiction from the University of Iowa. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in History of Religions at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Until recently, he was both Visiting Assistant Professor of Islamic and Middle East Studies at the University of Iowa and the Truman Capote Fellow in Fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop. He was born in Iran and now lives in Santa Barbara and New Orleans.Irshad Manji
is a broadcaster and author. Born in 1968, Irshad is a refugee from Idi Amin's Uganda. In 1972, she and her family fled to Vancouver, where Irshad grew up attending public schools as well as the Islamic madressa. Currently, Irshad is based at Yale University as a Visiting Fellow with the International Security Studies program. She writes columns that are distributed worldwide by the New York Times Syndicate. She is also making a feature film about Islam. Among the ideas it will showcase is 'ijtihad', Islam's lost tradition of independent thinking.Regards.

I haven't left and do visit occasionally but I have less time to post in detail due to work commitments.
I try to keep informed but it's very passive lately. I'm listening to podcasts on the long drives to and from work; and thinking about some new things lately. I'm hoping to develop more insights into the question of "What is information" - where does it come from exactly - can it arise out of nothing for example. That and several other things are keeping my mind occupied at the moment.

I listened to the podcast. I liked Ali Reza's interview, he seemed more down to earth, from the way he talked. As for Irshad Manji, I'm not sure if I feel sorry for her, or that I just find her annoying. She sounds pompous, and obviously she likes hearing herself talk. You can tell that she's said these things over and over again, so much so that she closed her mind to believe only that to be the way. Poor girl. I was even thinking, maybe we could invite here here for a discussion/debate and see how far she gets.http//i28.photobucket.com/albums/c236/zenje/think.gif
