Discussion on Dr. Shahroor's work
-
Peace all,
I've done a search and I see there have been some brief discussions on Dr. Shahroo's "The Book and the Qur'an" but nothing really in-depth.
I'd like to get a discussion going on the claims he makes in his book. I haven't read the book but have only read the summary as given on the freeminds site. The link is here http//www.free-minds.org/books/shahroor.htm
Specifically, he makes the claim that the reading we have today isnt just the Quran but rather consists of Kitab and Quran and Tafseel Ul-Kitab. For detail on exactly what he claims, see here http//www.free-minds.org/books/shah1.htm
He claims the Quran are the mutashabih verses mentioned in 37 while the Kitab are the muhkamat.
What do you guys think of the merits of his argument?

Hi
I hardly read any work for that guy but with the work I read in the url above, he has no merit whatsoever, just a case of another Muslim confusing his fellow brthers and sisters
I will try to pick some small points that he said and respond to it later inshalllah

I actually agree with what he said in this link

Peace Ahmed.
Good, I await your comments. I just want a good discussion on the issues, specifically about the Nature of the Book. I do agree with him and you on the "greater than salat" issue.

I don't agree with everything he wrote but I fully agree with his methodology presented in that book. I believe this is what "tarteel" of the Quran should be and not what most of the schools of thought think and teach. You have to read his book first to understand how he came up with that new understanding.
And God the All-Mighty knows best.
