    Peace

I believe one must exercise their thoughts as they do their actions.

    Joe

sure, it happens by itself really, but the question is, is the toughts of a sin without committing it may be considered a sin?

I should say yes in instances where there is a deep desire to carry out such actions. I'm not sure about this according to the will of God.

3425 Say "You will not be asked about our crimes, nor will we be asked for what you do."
1693 And had God wished, He would have made you one nation, but He misguides whom He wishes, and He guides whom He wishes. And you will be asked about what you used to do.

Thinking wrong / 'sinful' thing is mostly inevitable...
And God knows very well on the limit of His creations,
and make pardons on many of those..

          Peace

            on a related subject

Are we held accountable to our thoughts? Since are thoughts are being recorded as well? If not, why are our thoughts being recorded? (or are they, i seem to remember a verse perhaps i am mistaken)

The fantasy mentioned above are definitely sinf-ful (to me) because this is being done on purpose. If you are purposely fantasizing this, then to me this is definitely sin-ful.

            Some verses to ponder

2225 God will not call you to account for your casual oaths, but He will call you to account for what has entered your hearts. God is Forgiving, Compassionate.

2284 To God is what is in the heavens and in Earth, and if you declare what is in your souls or hide it, God will call you to account for it. He will forgive whom He wishes, and punish whom He wishes, and God is capable of all things.

1310 It is the same whether any of you openly declares what he says, or conceals it; whether he is hiding in the night or going openly in the day.

4729 Or did those who harbour a disease in their hearts think that God would not bring out their evil thoughts?

6713 And whether you keep your utterances secret, or declare them, He is fully aware of what is inside the chests.

Based on those verses i would like your opinions

            Isn't 2284 conclusive?

Intentional thinking of or desiring of or acting of bad deeds repeatedly is a result of carelessness or willful indulgence. When one finds such practices in one?s life, he should think and judge the situation and take appropriate measures.

Here is a simple rule which may help.

We live in a world where certain physical and psychological laws rule. A turbulent stream may take me to a direction against my will and due to lack of skills to manage the course. If I am sincere not to get myself lost, I should strive for the skills and I should always remain careful where to step. A beautiful woman on the street may fascinate me. I should try to overcome it and at the same time I should refrain my eyes from seeing her.

Everything depends on the honesty and sincerity in one?s submission to God and on the endeavors or programs he takes to develop himself. If one makes mistakes due to powerful laws of nature (which are in fact God?s laws), he should repent and take appropriate and practicable measures to avoid the conditions where such rules come into force. There is no scope for willful or intentional indulgence, neither in thinking nor in acting. One can not tell lies with one?s heart.

Mere thinking of crimes is not performing the crimes. But it bars further development in good directions. It also has potentials to lead, one day, to the real bad paths.

Introspective sincere judgment, praying to God with perseverance and Salat are powerful tools.

                Peace Joe, folks!

Thing is the deep-desire is limited to brain. Turning tht desire into action is certainly sin.
Again, I desire to eat pig but will not eat cos God had forbidden it. Now to think/desire is sin ?

I think thinking about sinning and not doing it is not only NOT sinnful, but it is a kind of Jihaad. How would you be a mujaahid if in the first place there is no sin that is attainable by you but you struggle not to do it?

3142 "Or you think that you will enter Paradise before Allah tests those among you who struggle and the patient?".

I mean desire is limited to within oneself.

                        Peace all,

                        i agree with Joe.

In my understanding we may not be accountable for our thoughts, but we are for our real intentions.

If you intend to do wrong, you're already doing it even though you might not carry out that act du to external circumstances.

On the other hand, thoughts, even though we should work on them, can go in many directions without the actual intention of doing "it"...whatever it is !

Note that in most judicial systems - at least in those that i know - the intention to harm as well as the knowledge of doing something wrong/illegal is an aggravating circumstance - besides the fact that no one is supposed to ignore the law.

                        Elke

                          Peace be upon you,

Thoghts are the seeds of actions. We must make the effort to weed our "garden" of bad seeds and plant and cultivate good seeds. One thing we have to realize is that our thoughts come to our awareness NOT by our own doing. If you were to sit quietly and watch you thoughts come, you will confirm this 100%. Our subconcious sends thought patterns to our awareness "behind our back" so to speak. Our job is to IGNORE all negative thoughts and to actively concentrate on correct thoughts. That is our job, we are the gardners. So since we cannot help having bad thoughts enter our minds, it cant be a "sin". But it is a sin to continue to entertain those thoughts for an extended amount of time. That is like watering the seed in the garden. No, we want to cut those weeds as fast as possible. We want to water the good thoughts by concentrating on them.

I heard someone say that they really want pork but they dont eat it. Sooner or later, if you dont eat pork realizing how beneficial that is not to eat pork and how bad it is to eat pork, the EMOTION/DESIRE will lose stregth and you should no longer have that desire. If you continue to have that desire for it , it is because you are holding theo thought of you enjoying that pork in your mind. You are watering that seed instead of weeding your garden.

I quite agree but enjoying pork in the mind, Is that a sin ? We water a seed inorder it grows but here is no watering. If I am not wrong watering means moving towards the sin, not commiting. Nei?

Enjoying wealth, power, fame through contemplation? It is not sin to contemplate, but it is a sin of wasting time.

Enjoying hatred, envy, anger, revenge through contemplation? Indication of a sinful mind.

quite agree but enjoying pork in the mind, Is that a sin ? We water a seed inorder it grows but here is no watering. If I am not wrong watering means moving towards the sin, not commiting. Nei?

Watering of a bad seed is sin, yes, because we are FREE to ignore any thought or image that comes to our "sphere of awareness". When we continue to entertain incorrect thinking/imaging, we are building the foundation for the action. We are continuing to REINFORCE the EMOTION of it, even though we may not be acting it out.

Liek a man who imagines having sex with his co worker. He ma not act on it but he is reinforcing emotions in the wrong direction. If she one day gives a hint to him that she is interested, now he has built up all these emotions about it from his thinking and imagining and he may be "powerless" to stop himself from carrying it out. But if he maintained his chastity in his thinking/actions, he will be better prepared for such an event.

                                          Peace,

Can i comment on the word 'sin'? For one, there are unlimited philosophical discussions on the word sin, but to understand the word ithm(arabic mostly trandslated as 'sin&#039, you have to look at the context and the different ancient arabic meanings, and it means something that is harmfull for society or individuals. Which i prefer as meaning. Pork is forbidden because it is harmfull, aduletry is forbidden because it is harmfull and so on, the term sin is a religious term which doesn't hold water when using the Quran and logic...
