    Hi all,

Where does it imply 10 days of fasting?

And you know Allah has made the quran easy to understand?-I believe so.

Did Allah run out of number ten to make it easier or are people here just concucting the ten theory?

    Am I confused, and don?t, can?t comprehend?

Can the masters of the ten theory explain ?for the benefit of all of us.

    And Thank You.

    God Bless.

        Salaams Elke,

The period which we are to fast has been defined by the word 'madoodat/few'. This word typically indicates a number from 3-10 as the term 'madoodat' is used for numbers which can be simply counted even by the fingers of the hand (this same word can be seen in 2203 to indicate a period of 3 days).
The answer (which number is it from 3-10) is derived from 2185 in which God say's "so that you may complete the count". The complete count for our number system is a 10-based system (2196). I.e. we when we reach 10, we start the count again with 11, 12, 13, etc.. (This is different from an 8 based system which has been used in the past or even a 7 base system).

So did Allah choose to tell us to fast for ten days with the above procedure?
Sorry my Br?s if I had been Allah I wouldn?t use such a long winded description to say have ten fasts? ?

        Would you?

        There aren?t any ten fasts
        Try

The quran is easy as Allah has said, but people still look for the complications just to embody the old trad Islam (which is based on Hindu culture-I think, and as Br. Aymans other topics prove).

        God Bless.

            Salaam.

I read in the Qur'an that we should fast during the MONTH of Ramadan not TEN DAYS of Ramadan. I think this is pretty clear, yes?

            Salaam.

use the research for the term shahr month and equivalent.

then you'll decide if things are really clear...

              regards, lk

Sorry my Br?s if I had been Allah...
Unless you're comparing the God to a human, that sentence has no merit whatsoever.

I wouldn?t use such a long winded description to say have ten fasts?
Could you please provide the verse that's precisely saying 30 days? Please note, I'm not asking for "during the month"... just a very short 30 days. Also, I'm not looking to debate, just asking for clarity from you.

                  Thank you.

                  peace

                    Salaams Zenje,

Could you please provide the verse that's precisely saying 30 days?

There isn?t one to my knowledge.

And there isn?t one saying 10 days similarly.

                    Both are man made-I thinks.

Has Allah imposed anything at all on us? NO-I think.

As I understood ? we can walk on our heads as long as we try to be righteous and keep faith in the God, and the Day ? That?s enough.

                    God Bless.

                      Peace Simple,

Where does it imply 10 days of fasting?

The term "completion" when attached to a count is always describing a count of 10 in the great reading.

Also, according to Classical Arabic dictionaries the meaning of "ma3doodat" is a number that can be counted on the finger tips. You have ten fingers so completing the count of "ma3doodat" is 10.

And you know Allah has made the quran easy to understand?-I believe so.

It is easy once we remove our preconceptions and look at things neutrally and objectively.

Did Allah run out of number ten to make it easier or are people here just concucting the ten theory?

No He didn't. The great reading guides those with intelligence. Those with intelligence can look at things objectively. Once things become clear, I usually get the feeling of wanting to bang my head because it was all too simple and was right in front of my eyes all along but I couldn't see it before because of some subjectivity.

                      Am I confused, and don?t, can?t comprehend?

I suggest that you try to read the great reading and come up with an understanding that can be compared to the ten "theory" so that you reduce your confusion. We can then compare your understanding to the ten theory and see which is better.

Can the masters of the ten theory explain ?for the benefit of all of us.

Let's try a neutral tone. I explained a little bit above. Actually, I was disappointed when your comment about "moon god" was put in the trash. I think that good can be found sometimes even in adversity, if one is focused on the truth. I think you are sincere.

Your comment about the "moon god" should actually be "moon goddess". Moon goddesses were common in the ancient world because the moon cycle resembled that of the female menstrual cycle. Also, the moon was an object that is a symbol of beauty. Thus, to this day, in the Middle East when a man flirts with a girl, he calls her "ya qamar" (O moon). The pre-quranic southern Arabs had a female moon goddess who represented the moon in its threefold existence - waxing, (maiden), full (pregnant mother), and waning (old wise woman). It is interesting that if you look in Lisan Al3arab, you will notice that "ash-harat", a derivative of shahr, means pregnant mother whose belly is round.

According to the best information we have available, the word "shahr" means full-moon and this fits in the context of the great reading. If you have a different meaning then please bring it and we can see if it makes sense.

By the way, just because people use the sun to know when to plant crops and uses it with the moon to time the harvest and to time hunting restrictions, this doesn't mean that they take those cosmic bodies as gods. In fact, those bodies in a way serve us.

                      Peace,

                      Ayman

                        Salaam Br.Ayman,

To my knowledge the context theme doesn?t change it?s continuous ?see the following.

                        2180-188.

                        1. It is decreed for you that if death should come to any of you, that it is best if he leaves a will for his family and relatives out of goodness; this is a truth for the righteous.

                        2. Whoever alters it after having heard, then the sin will be upon those who alter it. God is Hearer, Knowing.

                        3. If anyone fears harm or sin from his beneficiary, then reconcile what is between them. God is Forgiving, Merciful.

                        4. O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you as it was decreed for those before you perhaps you may be righteous.

                        5. ( Fast/Abstain) for a fixed number of (maaadootatin = 3) days. Whoever of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if you knew.

                        6. The quran was revealed when unseemly behavior was rife a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and the criterion so whosoever is a party to such/evil amongst you he should fast and whosoever is sick or on journey (the same) number of days other wants Allah for you ease and not want for you hardship so that you complete the number and that you should magnify Allah on that he guided you so that you may give thanks.

                        7. And if My servants ask you about Me, I am near answering the calls of those who call to Me. So let them respond to Me and believe in Me that they may be guided.

                        8. It has been made lawful for you during the night of fasting to approach your women sexually. They are a garment for you and you are a garment for them. God knows that you used to betray your souls so He has accepted your repentance, and forgiven you; now you may approach them and seek what God has written for you. And you may ENJOY EACH OTHER AS YOU WILL until the white thread is distinct from the black thread of dawn; then you shall complete the fast until night; and do not approach them while you are devoted in YOUR SUBMISSIONS. These are God?s boundaries, so do not transgress them. It is thus that God makes His revelations clear to the people that they may be righteous.

                        9. And do not consume your money between you unjustly by bribing the decision makers so that you may consume a part of the other people?s money sinfully while you know!

The general theme is about you fasting /abstaining when and if you do something that requires you to contemplate/think on your actions and avoid friction with others.

                        Two examples

FOR KILLING AN INNOCENT PERSON-two months
FOR CALLING/MAKING WIFES AS MOTHERS ?two months e.t.c

The term "completion" when attached to a count is always describing a count of 10 in the great reading.

Give us examples of where in the quran or generally it has been used.

Secondly try asking a few people what the hack is completing a count I bet no one will know what you are talking about.

No body uses such lingo especially if it?s a book which is to be easy to understand.

And different people have used different base numbers , 10 came from the hindues to the arabs - i am not sure if it was after islam or before though, other bases used -8, 12, 56 e.t.c

I do respect very much your findings on the whole but here I think you are trying to keep an existing melodrama going rather then looking at what the sura as a whole is saying.

                        God Bless you.
