    Salam Aleikum All~

My question is...can we not drink any water while fasting? Where does it clarify this in the Quran? I used to fast during Ramadan for 30 days, and not eat or drink any fluids after sunrise, and only eat and drink fluids after the appointed time of sunset.

But now, because I am confused...I wonder can I sip on water while fasting?

Just Curious..I always get very sick when I fast without water, I can generally make it without food, but without water,..I get horrible headaches and I become weak, and I get nauseous.

      Peace honor,

If it causes you much difficulty to fast, then there is a clause for that, i.e. feeding the needy or fasting at another time, if possible. Otherwise as far as I'm aware abstaining is from food, drink and sex during the day. IMO water falls within those categories.

      1. It has been made lawful for you during the night of fasting to approach your women sexually. They are a garment for you and you are a garment for them. God knows that you used to betray your souls so He has accepted your repentance, and forgiven you; now you may approach them and seek what God has written for you. And you may eat and drink until the white thread is distinct from the black thread of dawn; then you shall complete the fast until night; and do not approach them while you are devoted in the temples. These are God?s boundaries, so do not transgress them. It is thus that God makes His revelations clear to the people that they may be righteous.

In my recent 10 day fast, I felt the headaches on the first day. This usually doesn't happen to me, but living in higher elevations, you dehydrate even more and it always recommended to keep drinking water. But the days after, my body got used to it. Again, this is a personal observation, and may not apply to others.

      peace

Thank you Zenje for your input and Ayat of the Quran..I appreciate it.

I think I will do my best to abstain from water and food, but at the very least if I become sick, will just sip small amounts of water. But of course, I will do my best to not do so.

        Much appreciated!

          Peace honor,

Also dont forget the verses before that...

          1. O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you as it was decreed for those before you perhaps you may be righteous.

          2. A few number of days. Whoever of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if you knew.

2185 A month in early autumn, in which the Quran was sent down as a guide to the people and a clarification of the guidance and the criterion. Therefore, whoever of you can observe the season, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He has guided you, that you may be thankful.

          peace
