a muslim is simply one who submits (and in our context, to God). This leads to His remembrance, accepting accountability for one's actions and thus trying to lead a righteous life.
Learning is a continual process, one's understanding improves as one gains knowledge, so continue your studies and implement what you think is best but continue to seek knowledge about it.
That is the best way.
Trying to figure out the what and how of salat is a worthy goal, but please remember 2945. This is pivotal in one's approach to this subject.

Yup, I agree with the above reply. You're already a muslim if you accepted God in your life and are idolfree. To get to know Him is a whole different story. You need to take it step by step. First accept that you're already a muslim/submitter and after that search for answers to your questions.

I am not Muslim yet, but I have been learning a lot over the past year or so, mostly about Sunni Islam, until recently, and I feel as though I may have found the true path. I have been having ups and downs about if I feel Islam is the right religion. Hadiths have confused me, which is why coming across Qur'an Only Islam on submission.org really got me excited about finding a true path; something that really made sense to me.
There are still a few things that I am unsure about. Mostly, the praying... It's such an important part of a Muslim's life, and yet the Qur'an doesn't describe it in a very specific manner. From what I have read, I could probably not manage to find a suitable way to pray without guidance from someone else, which makes me think Who better than the prophet? but then... How accurate is the tradition of praying?
The question I set out to ask in the first place is
Do you think I should become Muslim now, following a certain way of praying and observing rituals until I am able to research more and figure it out fully for myself or should I wait until it has all been figured out until I convert?As salamu alaykum wr wb.
Respectfully.You should not follow humans, you should follow Qur'an only and when i say Qur'an only, i mean, read it carefully and think about what you read.

Salat of the believers (process of connecting with The God and learning/programming oneself by reciting from His word and remembring Him) according to the Qur'aan is for believers (mumins) which is the next level above submitters to The God (muslims). One should first become submitter to The God (muslim) and then try to reach the next level of believer (mumin). Once one is a mumin then one can worry about refining and perfecting the salat.
262 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Nazarenes, and the Sabiens; any one of them who believes in God and the Last Day, and does good work, they will have their reward with their Lord, with no fear over them, nor will they grieve.
Any one who does what is highlighted in blue above is a muslim.
We should declare our submission to our Lord following the example of Abraham
2131 When his Lord said to him "Submit," he said "I submit to the Lord of the worlds."
and then strive and try our best to be muslim (submissive) to God at each and every moment of our life.

In my opinion when you approach the quran it should not be expected that a fast result in understanding will occur. With me I like to let the ideas, the stories, it's many concepts simmer in my head. These can be simmering in my head for a long time. I read and reread these things to keep the ideas fresh in my mind. Understanding begins to hatch after time. What may help in this accomplishment is the pulling together of ideas and related concepts spread about in the quran. To do this you should take notes.
The practicality of the quran must be realized with a combination of the theoretical and experiencial .

I think I might start praying soon. There really isn't any good reason to wait until I'm sure of everything since that could take a while. The sooner the better, alterations can always be made later when I learn more.
I still have the issue of my husband, who does not support Qur'an Only at all. Maybe not even enough to let me practice it that way. And he is impossible to discuss with. He sees Qur'an Only as hating the prophet and doesn't seem to understand the simple idea of not trusting the people who compiled and collected the hadiths. And he uses hadiths to try to support hadiths. It's all very weird and exhausting and frustrating, really. I feel like I'm talking to a child who doesn't understand rules of argumentation...
He keeps on trying to prove something by saying that on God's throne, it's written that there is no other God than God and that Muhammad is his Messenger.
Any tips on how to deal with him? I've tried everything, but there is a very thick barrier there that prevents him from thinking about things in different ways or even accepting that different ideas exist. Must be the way he was educated.

364 Say "O people of the Scripture, let us come to a common understanding between us and between you; that we do not serve except God, and do not set up anything at all with Him, and that none of us takes each other as patrons beside God." If they turn away, then Say "Bear witness that we have submitted."
380 Nor does He order you that you take the Angels and the prophets as patrons. Would He order you to rejection after this, while you have submitted?
It appears that your husband is hindering you from following the straight path
745 "The ones who hinder from the path of God, and sought to make it crooked; and with regard to the Hereafter they were rejecters."
Following the unverifiable hearsays and rumors and the fabricated sayings falsely attributed to the messenger and accepting them as the source of law and guidance in addition to The God is setting up the authors of those fabricated sayings as partners with The God and idolizing them which is the highest form of sin and makes one a disbeliever.
931 They took their Priests and Monks to be patrons besides God,
These idols will not be able to help the misguided people
4628 Why then did the idols they set up to bring them closer to God fail to help them? Instead, they abandoned them. Such was their lie, and what they fabricated.
6121 ..............And the devils they inspire their supporters to argue with you; and if you obey them, then you have set up partners.
448 God does not forgive that partners be set up with Him, and He forgives what is beside that for whom He wills. Whoever sets-up partners with God has indeed invented a great sin.
Try to educate your husband that currently the only book which contains the authentic message of The God in its entirety is the Qur'aan, and The God made it complete and detailed and cited every kind of example in it necessary for our guidance and did not neglect anything out of it. Thus we do not need anything other than the Qur'aan for our guidance to the straight path. The messenger himself followed only what was revealed by The God, and judged by The God's revelations, and conveyed the message truthfully without adding anything to it from his own desires.
Try to make your husband aware of the truth in a good manner with patience and hope that The God guides him to the straight path and the truth. Tell him to read the Qur'aan in its entirety and to follow its message.
16125 Invite to the path of your Lord with wisdom and good advice, and argue with them in that which is better. Your Lord is fully aware of who is misguided from His path, and He is fully aware of the guided ones.
577 Say "O followers of the Scripture, do not overstep in your system other than the truth, and do not follow the desires of a people who have been misguided before, and they misguide many; and they strayed from the right path."

617 Who is more evil than one who fabricates lies about God, while he is being invited to submission? God does not guide the evil people.
822 The worst creatures with God are the deaf and dumb who do not understand.
4340 Can you make the deaf hear, or can you guide the blind and those who are far astray?
If despite your best efforts and patience, your husband refuses to accept and follow the truth and keeps hindering you from following the straight path and insists on idolizing the authors of the unverifiable hearsays and false and fabricated sayings of the messenger, then unfortunately your marriage is null and void as per the following
2221 And do not marry the females who set up partners until they believe. For a believing servant is better than one who sets up partners even if she attracts you. And do not marry the males who set up partners until they believe. For a believing servant is better than one who sets up partners even if he attracts you. Those invite to the Fire, while God is inviting to Paradise and forgiveness by His leave. He clarifies His revelations for the people that they may remember.
6010 O you who believe, if the believing women come emigrating to you, then you shall test them. God is fully aware of their belief. Thus, if you establish that they are believers, then you shall not return them to the disbelievers. They are no longer lawful for them, nor are the disbelievers lawful for them. And return the dowries that were paid. And there is no sin upon you to marry them, if you have paid their dowries to them. And do not keep disbelieving wives, and ask back what dowries you paid. And let them ask back what dowries they had paid. Such is God's judgement; He judges between you. God is Knowledgeable, Wise.
I fervently pray to The God to guide your husband to the straight path and the truth so that both of you can help each other serve The God by humbly submitting to Him.

sister i have read the difficulties you are having with your husband and just i want to remind you that we should always put Allah subhaana we ta ala first and foremost. The other thing is try to speak softly about Islam and try not to say things which will make him mad or to not allow you to practise the way you feel is correct. When your husband sees you doing all the beautiful things Allah told us to do, he should be able to then see you are among those who are rightly guided inshaa allah. Remember Allah tests us in different ways and if you need to talk anytime please dont hesitate to contact me.

Have you ever considered to be somewhere in between the Quran alone and the Sunni?
well I have to tell you sister, the Quran clearly show us that we have to follow what we know about the prophet and how we know that is truthful or not simply by using the following formula that was even said by the prophet in is hadith
Al Quran qualifies the Hadith, NOT the other way around
this is very easy to implement because all the rubbish in the hadith can be disqualified by the Quran and all the good things in it can be qualified by the Quran
I advice you to consider your decision regarding the hadith because you will miss out on a lot of things that Allah taught his prophet and ordered him to teach us all these things that were not mentioned in the Quran
it is a clear cut test dear sister to see if we follow the prophet or not as we were ordered many times in the Quran, therefore you should think again and don't let the rubbish in many of the hadith makes you write off all the many good things in it

This will be my last post concerning brother AB's post and I will not respond to any of brother AB's criticisms of my post. You can see for yourself both of our view points and decide for yourself what the truth is in the light of the Qur'aan, because only The God guides those who are willing to be guided.

Where do we find the good example of the messenger of The God ? In the Qur'aan itself of course
1789 And We have cited to the people in this Quran from every example, but most people refuse to be anything but a rejecter!
1854 And We have cited in this Quran every example for the people. But man was always most argumentative.
2533 And for every example they come to you with, We bring you the truth and the best explanation.
3058 And We have cited for the people in this Quran of every example. And if you come to them with a sign, those who rejected will Say "You are bringing falsehood!"
3927 And We have cited for the people in this Quran from every example, that they may take heed.

Nowhere in the Qur'aan can we find the formula that the Qur'aan qualifies the hadeeth. Taking an unverifiable rumor/hearsay and making it a formula for our guidance is a very dangerous practice indeed. The God warns us about this
316 And from the people, there are those who accept baseless "hadeeth" (narrations) to mislead from the path of God without knowledge, and they take it as entertainment. These will have a humiliating retribution.
We have to follow only the best
3918 The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom God has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.
Which hadeeth (narration) is the best ?
3923 God has sent down the best "hadeeth" (narration), a Scripture that is similar with two paths. The skins of those who reverence their Lord shiver from it, then their skins and their hearts soften up to the remembrance of God. Such is God's guidance; He guides with it whoever He wills. And for whomever God misguides, then none can guide him.
The ONLY hadeeth (narration) that can be believed is the Qur'aan itself
456 These are God's revelations that We recite to you with truth. So, in which "hadeeth" (narration), after God and His revelations, do they believe?
7185 Did they not look at the dominion of heavens and Earth, and all that God has created? Perhaps their time is drawing near; so in which "hadeeth" (narrations) after this one will they believe?
I advice you to consider your decision regarding the hadith because you will miss out on a lot of things that Allah taught his prophet and ordered him to teach us all these things that were not mentioned in the Quran
Please note that the author of the above quote is clearly denying the completeness of the Qur'aan despite the God saying that His word is complete, that He has cited every kind of example in it, and that He has neglected nothing out of it relevant to our guidance to the straight path.

How can one follow and obey the messenger ? by following and obeying the message ! What is the message of the messenger ? the Qur'aan, of course ! Thus when we follow and obey the Qur'aan, we are following and obeying the messenger, thereby obeying The God, and that is what the test is.

That is a good point sister. I also don't understand how "some" people cannot differentiate between what the prophet said and what the narrators three centuries after prophet's demise said regarding the prophet.

Shahih Sunan Abu Dawud Book 25, Number 3640
Narrated Zayd ibn Thabit
Al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah ibn Hantab said Zayd ibn Thabit entered upon Mu'awiyah and asked him about a tradition. He ordered a man to write it. Zayd said The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) ordered us not to write any of his traditions. So he erased it.
Try to ask him Why did the prophet forbid the writing any of his sayings except quran? Did the prophet want us to miss a lot of things that Allah taught him?

That is another good observation sister. Indeed quran confirms that one of the characteristics of those who don't believe in the hereafter is when Islam is presented in quran alone, they run away in aversion.
1745 And when you study the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier.
1746 And we place shields over their hearts, that they should not understand it, and a deafness in their ears. And if you mention your Lord in the Quran alone, they run away turning their backs in aversion.Below is an article regarding hadith

They should compile ALL the words that Muhammad said in the Qur'an, the ones that Allah Most Powerful told him to say. You know, like when God told Muhammad"Say"Allah is one, ...."And then compile ALL the words that Muhammad said in the hadith and sunna and then take these two collections to several psychologists and psychiatrists to say if that is one man or two men.
Because the Muhammad from sunna and hadith is portrayed as some violent man who burns houses if you don't pray and the Muhammad from the Qur'an is the guy who TRULY follows Qur'an alone.
Whatever the doctors tell us, we should immediately bring it to this forum.

Indeed these are the true hadeeth. All the true authentic hadeeth are already given in the Qur'aan, we dont need any other book to find them.

The hadith of the prophet were not meant to reach us, but humans like to compile stories, and love to know more about their leaders.
Innumerable hardships and abominations were made and are still made in the name of hadith, and these are those who stop many people from even looking into Islam as a genuine and decent (the best) way of life, because what they are presented with are man made second hand tales on the Prophet. The devils have truly succeeded in leading the majority of so-called muslims astray away from what Allah wants them to follow.
It was never the case that a Prophet will be worshipped.
Having been the victim of following hadith for twenty years, and wasting that same amount in the process.
Now realising that Quran is more than enough because Allah says so, I am relieved to be in direct communication with my Creator, instead as through the veils of falsehood, and idolatry...
Does Allah not suffice in providing for His servants?
