All the confusion would stop if people realize that the word "islam" has a real meaning that certainly existed before it became used as the proper name of a religion.
Its real meaning is simple like all words of the form of IF3AL "the making of Fa3AL". So for ISLAM, this would be "the making of SaLAM" or "peacemaking".
No one needs to ask "Will the REAL peacemaking stand up" because everyone naturally knows what peacemaking is and who are peacemakers and no further explanation is necessary.
