I have noticed an increase in the amounts of spam that we are receiving on this forum...
As a precationary measure, I have changed the registration settings to require new users to verify via e-mail upon regitring.
If this option does not work, I will modify to have all new users require mannual approval by the admin.
My appologies to new users who will feel the delays due this new security measure.

The best prenvetion is a bandwith vampire. When they realise that there is a connection between spam posted here and insane bandwith usage all of a sudden. It stops overnight.
With a vampire that doesnt affect your usual surfing habbits, you can easily hog 5-6 GB of bandwith a day. Now if 10 users, who are not on a pay pr. connection solution do it at the same time, it starts to get troublesome. If 50 users does it everyday for a month, they will move asap. Just make sure that people learn how to do it by proxy, as spam pirates are gangsters. Make no mistake about this.But the best, if someone are on corporate backbones, a vampire could suck them dry in hours.

A new version of SMF has been released 1.1 RC3.
It includes a function called CAPTCHA, which deals effectively with Spambots.
