Zekr Quran Browser
-
I have been using a multi-platform Quran browser called Zekr (zekr.org) for reading the Quran on my computer. I still use online Quran browsers for research as well, like TIM, but having one I can use offline is useful for me. I imported both the Progessive Muslim (The Message) and Khalifa's translations and can view them side-by-side with the fully vocalized Arabic text (if someone wants the translation files to import into zekr, email me). It's highly configurable, and you can create bookmarks, listen to recitations, and it has a pretty good search function, but unfortunately it only searches the Arabic text.
Besides online sources and, of course, hardcopy books, what other Quran programs do people use for study?

Salam,
I would like to add to and repeat what lugosi posted.
I think this is a valuable program that everyone can benefit from.
For those of you who have not yet tried the Zekr project FREE customizable Open Source Quran, I highly recommend it.
The features include
search feature that allows you to search words in Arabic
This is really useful and simple to use.
Create your own Quran concordance using bookmarks
I think this is one of the best features. For example if someone asks you about salat you can easily pull up the verses and referrences that you created yourself. You can also share your bookmarks with others and they can load them into their zekr program.
Customize language, translation, recitation, commentary, and theme
you can also share these custom made features with other users.
Offline Audio of your favorite Quran reciter
If anyone is interested here is a link to the Zekr Project website http//zekr.org/quran/quran-for-windows
There are screenshots available on the homepage.
The layout is very professional and easy to use.
For being a free program this is a very valuable tool.Salam,

Salaam,
I thought I'd mention that for any users of the Zekr Qur'an browser out there (and if you haven't tried it, you might like it http//zekr.org/), I put together a translation package of /Quran The Reformist Translation/ by Edip Yuksel, et al. for use in Zekr. Send me a message if you'd like a copy for use with Zekr.
Peace,
lugosi
