We can solve the world food crisis if we didn't waste as much as we do. But once again Allah provides us with a generous answer with space vegetables to fulfill our "greed". As humans we want more and more and Allah continouly provides without asking anything in return and many including me forget to thank Him for giving us so much and more......THANK YOU ALLAH!! Purpose of this thread is gratitude....how do you show gratitude when you are giving anything from The Most Merciful?
Giant space vegetables ?could feed the world?
Swollen to ten times their normal size and weighing more than an average man, these giant pumpkins would not look out of place in a science fiction film.

And it?s no wonder that they look out of this world, because the seeds from which these monster vegetables were grown spent two weeks orbiting the earth.
On their return they were cultivated in giant Chinese hothouses producing the oversized specimens pictured here, along with a host of other fruit and vegetables.
Scientist hope the pumpkins, as well as two-foot long (06.m) cucumbers, 14lb (6.3kg) aubergines, and chilli plants which resemble small trees, could provide an answer to the world?s food crisis.
It is thought the near zero gravity conditions in space result in super-sized fruit and vegetables with a higher vitamin content.
Crucially, the plants are said to produce harvests which are ten to 20 per cent higher than normal - offering a rich source of food for the country?s 1.3 billion people.
Struggling for space in giant hothouses at the Guandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences are 21lb (9.5kg) tomatoes and enormous watermelons.
Researchers fired off a batch of 2,000 seeds into space in 2006 on the Shijian 8 satellite.
After germination the best specimens were selected for further breeding.
Researcher Lo Zhigang said ?Conventional agricultural development has taken us as far as we can go and demand for food from a growing population is endless.
?Space seeds offer the opportunity to grow fruit and vegetables bigger and faster.?
A total of 22 provinces are taking part in the programme, coordinated by the China Academy of Sciences, and China says its giant fruit and vegetables have already been sold to Japan, Thailand and Singapore. There has also been interest from European agricultural firms.
How sending seeds into space produces such enormous fruit is yet not fully understood, but it is thought cosmic radiation, micro-gravity and magnetic fields may play a part.

I have been following scientific research and technology since my middle school years, and this story tickled my suspicion. It seems, I was not the only one who got suspicious about it.
Understandably, the claims are being met with a healthy degree of skepticism from Western scientists, including NASA researchers and those at DuPont who have done their own experimentation. They stated that there were no observed genetic mutations and that the benefits did not justify the costs involved. One has to wonder if these vegetables are the result of time in orbit or just plant breeding and some good old-fashioned state propaganda.

Sure, a giant space-inflated pumpkin would be nice, but we have many other ways, besides technology, to increase food supply, such as banning biofuel technology, reducing the rate of population growth, reducing waste, etc.

I cannot thank God enough, there is so much.
I have friends, family, relatives, a job, i can walk, i can see, i can think, i am not in a war or ina wheelchair, i don't need a guide dog and i'm not in jail. I'm sorry for the people who don't have these blessings but that means that we have to be twice as much grateful because we sometimes don't see what we have.I live in UK. I live in a peaceful country. I just came from Cafe Nero where i had a cheese cake. And now i'm typing on a keyboard.
A child in Iraq or Chad or Somalia can't do that and i'm holding tears because i'm angry for not being able to do something about it. I want to be more usefuil as a Muslim, as a human being.God knows best why things are the way they are.

Alen's comment clearly displayed a concept of Fatalism, that God has determined the people in hunger, are dying and so on. That this is God's plan. But this is nonsense, look what the Qur'an says
3647 And when it is said to them, Spend on others of the provision Allah has given to you, the rejecters say to the believers, Shall we feed anyone whom Allah could have fed if He so willed? You people are obviously lost in error.
Only an Iblis believes God has determined things for him (Surah 7 "You have determined this for Me!", this is why Iblis also means a person that is dissapointed, depressed, coming from Balasa. A typical behaviour of a depressed person is not to accept responsibility for their own actions.
In the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" a very interesting scene appears, Saladin is confronted by a prince who complains to him that he should have fought against the Christian army they just met. Saladin says he will never fight this far away from water (they were in the middle of the desert). The prince then says "God would have won this battle for us!". Saladin gets mad and says "No, God and preparations win a battle. How many battles did the Muslims win before I came, or rather, when God had send me?"
The prince answered "Only a few, but that was because were sinners." Saladin "No! Because you were unprepared. The distance to water, sufficient supplies, the amount of men, good horses. These win battles."
What you have are 2 different Islam's confronting each other. The prince represents Fatalism, one who believes it doesn't matter how much you prepare, God will let you win anyway as long as you believe. Saladin represents Freewill and thus also own responsibility for the outcome of a battle.

471 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Be fully prepared against danger. You shall remain alert to meet aggression. Take your precautions then mobilize in groups or all together as determined by your commander.

Free will....
We decide ourselves if people die today of hunger, if people sleep outside in the cold or heat. If people have no protection, who are bombed, shot at, oppressed. We cannot put this in God's Hand and say it is part of His plan, giving us Free will is part of His plan, helping us to cope with Free will is part of His plan by sending the Qur'an to give us advice, His plan not this human suffering. He knew it would happen, but every drop of blood spilled is by OUR choice.
475 And why do you not fight in the cause of God, when the weak amongst the men and women and children Say "Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are wicked, and grant us from Yourself a Supporter, and grant us from Yourself a Victor!"
