This is a clear example of an allegorical verse. I can give you my own interpretation; but I'm in no way claiming that my interpretation represents the true meaning.
The creation of the heavens and the earth by God took six days. Here the word "days" could mean 6 eras or periods of an unknown time unit. The phrase "He settled on the throne" is an allegorical expression which could mean that after God created the heavens and the earth, He then "took control" or "took charge" of all things therein.

that's kinda why i was asking, because in another translation it says that He took control after He has created the earth.
but rest of the space existed before earth, the stars, other planets... so how could it say that He took control after the earth was created, who was controling it before?
i think the translation might be wrong because i'm sure God controled everything even before the creation of the earth. -

The beautiful Aya Kurshi (The verse of throne), which is almost on the walls of all Muslims house.
There is no god but God. He is the Living, the Self-Sustaining, the Eternal. Neither slumber can seize him nor sleep. His are all things in the skies (universes) and on earth. Who is there that can intervene in his presence except as he permits it. He knows what is before them, what is after them and behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of his knowledge except what He Wills. His Throne And Knowledge extends over the skies (universes) and the earth, and the preservation of these does not tire him, and he is the Most High, the Supreme (255) chapter 2.
Semitic language has singular, dual and plural (three or more). The word, 'samawat' is plural and means, 'skies'. In old days the translators used to translate this as, 'heavens'. Some use today as 'skies/spaces'. My preference is to leave it as 'skies' but insert next to it in bracket (universes), so it becomes, 'skies (universes)'.
Allah uses six days for us mortals. The Semitic word used is, 'ayyamin' in verse 2559. Ayyam means a complete cycle, a cycle of day and night, cycles of seasons, or could mean billions of year of our time. So, this is used for us mortals, so let us look at verse 2529 again
Who created the skies (universes) and the earth and what is between them both in six days, then He aimed/tended to on the throne , the merciful, so ask/question with Him (about) an expert/experienced (59) chapter 25.
Basically, Koran tells us in other ayas, that there are seven skies (universes) and the earth a similar number.
God is He Who created seven skies (universes) and of the earth a similar number. Through the midst of them descends His command that you may know that God has power over all things, and that God?s knowledge encompasses all things (12) chapter 65.
God is not bound with time and space, so how did God create us, according to Him, not when He telling us according to us mortals, who are bound with time and space.
To Him is due the origins of the skies (universes) and the earth When He decrees a matter, He says to it ?Be!? And it is! (117) chapter 2.
"kun fayakoon", ?Be!? And it is!
I bet blinking an eye might be slower than the above? Or snapping the fingers would be slower than the above? Or writing, ?Be!? And it is!

To Him is due the origins of the skies (universes) and the earth When He decrees a matter, He says to it ?Be!? And it is! (117) chapter 2
God is Rabbkum (your Nurturer, Lord is God)! Who created the skies (universes) and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority) He draws the night as a veil over the day, each seeking the other in rapid succession He created the sun, the moon, and the stars, (all) governed by laws under His command. Is it not His to create and to govern? Blessed be God, the Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) of the worlds! (54) chapter 7.
With power and skill did We construct the firmament for it is We Who create the vastness of Space (47) chapter 51.
He it is Who created the skies (universes) and the earth in six days - and His Throne was over the waters - that He might try you, which of you is best in conduct. But if you were to say to them, ?You shall indeed be raised up after death?, the hiders of the truth would be sure to say, ?This is nothing but obvious sorcery!? (7) chapter 11.
Do not the hiders of the truth see that the skies (universes) and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (30) chapter 21
He Who created the skies (universes) and the earth and all that is between, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority) God most Gracious ask about Him of any acquainted (with such things) (59) chapter 25.
Say Is it that you deny Him, Who created the earth in two days? And do you join equals with Him? He is the Rabb (Lord; Sustainer) of all the worlds (9) chapter 41.
He set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measure therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (sustenance) (10). Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky (universe), and it had been as smoke (gases) He said to it and to the earth ?Come you together, willingly or unwillingly?. They said ?We do come (together), in willing obedience? (11) chapter 41.
Note The four days mentioned in the verse 10, includes the two days in the verse 9, thus making a total of four days so far.
So He completed them as seven skies (universes) in two days, and He assigned to each sky (universe) its duty and command. And We adorned the lower sky (universe) with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the decree of (Him) the exalted in Might, full of knowledge (12) chapter 41.
Note This completes the Creation of our seven universes in total of six days.

(16) And God has produced you from the earth growing (gradually) (17), and in the end He will return you into the (earth), and raise you forth? (1 chapter 71.
Note Moon reflecting light from the sun?s light (lamp).
And We have set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with them, and We have made therein broad highways (between mountains) for them to pass through that they may receive guidance (31). And We have made the skies (universes) as a canopy well guarded yet do they turn away from the ayas (suggestions) which these things (point to)! (32). It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course (33) chapter 21.
Note World is not flat.

It is He Who has created human from water then has He established relationships of lineage and marriage for Rabbkum (your Nurturer) has power (over all things) (54) chapter 25.
We created the skies (universes) and the earth and all between them in six days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us! (3 chapter 50
