Yes, and I think we all have our different methods for connecting and recieving guidance from God. For me its definitely art, and the message is soothing, it always is "Everything is going to be alright."

Wow, I didnt expect this conversation to take off, but I am glad it has.
Arnab, thanks for starting to dig deeper into the verses...I hope you can open the verses enough for me to get inside and have a look. My weakness in Arabic prevebnts me from certain things until it is clarified enough that I can take what I already know and make sense of it.
Regarding the so called subconscious (that concept was created by people who want to take the God out of creation, it is really the Spirit/Nafs), it makes no mistakes because it is based on LAW. It is metaphorized as a garden, because what you put in is what you get out. The only "mistakes" come from our ability to properly cultivate it, and that is our job on earth, to purify the nafs, those who do succeed, those that dont fail.

I always thought that the people who did this 'raffle' thing were not inclusive of Zakirya.
Why? I see no reason to say he was not there, how could they have done a raffle that he was part of without him being there to witness the answer? If he wasnt there they might have well lied and not done anything at al and just said they did.
There is a possibility that they wrote down people's names on them, whether part of the group who actually participated in this or not after deciding, as the last phrase in 344 as 'you were not with them when they disputed.'
The "you" is the all of us who read the story, not Zachariah. We are being told we did not witness it, just as we are told the same thing about Musa on the side of the mount.

If they were pulling straws (with no names and the shortest straw gets it) then they would have to all be involved and if it was a draw or something then no, they didn't need to involve all the people who were included in the names. I don't know, unless the difference is determined, we can't really reach a conclusion.

It is divination. Using objects like cards, coins, etc where you ask a question and throw the coinsor pick cards to get the answer.The only objects mentioned in the verse are "their pens".
So the use of other objects would be, what do we call it... 'unquranic'.

The God says it teaches man by means of the "pen", and the Universe is symbolized as "The Book", so everything "written" is a sign(ayat) that speaks to man, fro the horizons to withn ourselves.
Prophets are those who can intuit truths, the solutions to problems, we all have this POTENTIAL, but until we can develop it, we are given oracle systems.
Playing cards, dominoes and MANY games were orginally used as oracles.
Lastly, oracles as I have been taught them are not fortune telling, but a way to see ahead of time what kinds of adversityies would be coming your way, NOT to avoid them, but to prepare your spirit to go through the adversity in peace. However, more primitive oracles such as urim and thummim gave just yes or no answers.
Again, oracles can only be verified through learning them and practicing them. I have found the Metu Neter Oracle and the I ching oracle of China to be mind blowing. I expect no one to believe that just on word of mouth.

Yes, I am thinking that the verse that speaks of abomination speaks to lotteries and such things, but the verse regarding zachariah deals with oracles. regarding lottery, why would you make a game out of giving away money when so many people OBVIOUSLY need money, and now others who have money can get into the game, thats wicked. However if you went to the God through an oracle, the God would guide you to who to give money to and who not to give money to. Perhaps someone who looks poor is asking for money, but the oracle says, no, dont give them money because what we cant see is that this person will hurt themslef with the money by buying crack cocaine or something.
The story of Joseph show us how we can get a glimpse of future events from within our spirit(nafs). Joseph's story is a lesson on the spirit and culture(that which shapes the spirit). The WELL is an old symbol for culture, because all people in the town go to the well to fetch water in the dark recesses of the earth that cant be seen, and they take that very same water home to nourish thier families. Culture.

I offer this just for those who want to dig deeper into the science of the ONE STATEMENT (universe), where all things are connected.
I will be studying that futher myself, but I have already seen the Oracles work in my life, and it is not a thing to give you the advatage over people, just to give you the advatage over your own spirit, so you can prepare, not avoid.

Imagine someone taking part in a raffle by signifying his consent and/or putting the coupon in the mail/box/whatever and leaving. One doesn't have to be physically present there then. If they lied or didn't lie it doesn't matter, as if that was the focus of the story, it would be mentioned in the quran.

I don't see divination as many cultures do to be necessarily correct and/or something encouraged in the quran. The raffles/lots were done to choose someone with minimal fuss as everyone has an equal chance of being picked, there is no talk of communication with God when this was taking place or if it even was the intention.

I've only read bits and pieces of this thread so my post may sound way off key here
but it's my understanding that time is only an illusion. The idea that there is a past present and future is only something humans use to understand this universe. on a different plane, the Almighty does not deal with this time issue.... therefore anything or person used to "predict the future" may not really be predicting anything but rather tapping into the Universal Energy and catching glimpses of that fusion of all that we categorize as past present and future as one.
it's my experience that those who are gifted with this blessing are all deeply spiritual people, which reinforces my idea that they really have just reached that level of being able to tap into a different level that the average person is too consumed with the "daily routine" to reach.

As you're aware, I'm convinced that we all have the ability to "talk with God" via meditation and other means. And you know I'm convinced of the unity we exist within. I'm just a bit confused on where you place the oracle within this understanding.
Basically, we all have the ability to intuit the solution to problems, thats what Prophets are, however most will never reach that potential, but the God still allows for such a person to communicate with "IT", until they grow enough to intuit from within without use of the oracles. An Oracle is just a "mouth" through which the God uses symbols to communicate to man.
I just wanted to give an answer at this point, I will try to elaborate soon.
