is this to be taken literally? some say that some verses are not to be taken literally?
what about these? are we actually gonna get EVERYTHING we desire?

When you die, your eyes and ears and tongue and skin will decay into the earth with the rest of your body. So, no, I don't think golden trays and cups and rivers of honey will mean much. You will be free from the material world, completely, in the full embrace of God...something so unimaginable that no earthly experience can describe it. But since we're here on earth, stuck in the material world, the only thing that comes close to understanding the bliss that awaits is to imagine having anything and everything you desire.

The point, imo, is to illustrate that there will be no distraction, no opposition or antagonism, from a free flow of God's energy.

peace Tay, i think you forgot that after we die and decay we will be resurected and the eyes, the tongue... will be back.
i also thought we will be just souls, with no bodys, but it says that our bones will be put back together like the first time.
although i like your outlook, but can you prove that? does it say in the Qur'an that it will be the way you said it?

i asked the first question because in the Qur'an i only found that we'll get gardens with rivers, clothes, jewelry, women (and men for women)...

Can you have anything you want in your imagination? Well what do you think will happen when you lose your physical vehicle?

To be ressurected means we will come back to earth to continue learning lessons. If you dont aquire a SALAAM (peaceful)mindset, when you die, the same thoughts and images that come to you and cause you "anger", "fear, and all kinds of stress will remain. You can't rest in peace if you dont dies in peace, which is why the God says Dont die except in a state of SALAAM.

I didn't forget to mention, I just don't see that as a possibility nor even alluded to in the qur'an. Please post the relevant ayat and we can discuss them.

nerspi, walk through a cemetary and find the oldest tombstone you can find. Then, dig up the grave and see if the bones are there. If they are, then the soul and bones have become separate. That's really the best advice I can give on the matter.

Only Allah can guide. Reach in contemplation, use your mind and your heart, and the answers will come...certainty will come. If it's just opinions your after, then like I said, in my strongest opinion, the ayat are not to be taken literally.

Just souls, just energy, just something far beyond flesh and bones. We are eternal but this vehicle we call the body is destined to become worm-food.

The mistake being made by this questioner and those with similar questions is that they are ASSOCIATING themselves with the human vehicle, rather than the Pure Consciousness that resides within the human vehicle. Just like in a dream, one does not use the same "Body". We are consciouness, that which percieves the thoughts, images, sensations, physical body, etc but itself cannot be percieved.

Exactly! And by associating with the finite vehicle, we lose sight of the divine within. As long as we identify ourselves with our mind and the senses it uses, we will always be slave to external influences...re-acting as opposed to acting.
