*shakes head -- believing woman, this is important!

This is what one of my group member wrote for our essay
Importantly, in Islam, a wife must seek permission from her husband whenever she wants to leave home and be a pious wife by practicing the four obligations according to Prophet?s saying; pray 5 times a day, fast in Ramadan month, loyal to husband and finally, preserve her dignity.

And this!
Quite importantly, as a daughter, she shouldn?t forget that Allah rewards those who doa or perform ?tahlil? for their parents when they passed away.
sorry, i just need to vent out.. yuck

We also have muslims here (sunnis) whos ay we must pray for the parents when they die, we must do soemthing for them also pay some money for them and i always wandered why.
Now, i never pray for the dead, i never pay for the dead, i never ask anything for the dead for one reason they are dead.
If anyone should be praying for anyone, it's them for me.
My grandfather, father's side, loved me, he was proud of me and the fact that i don't smoke and drink and do drugs and crime but i cannot do aynthing for him anymore, he is not on this side anymore, he passed away, to HereAfter, he's in another sphere, i cannot do anythinf for him.I can do one thing.
Learn from his mistakes and teach my kid in the future, InshaAllah.Peace.

Yusuf Ali If then Allah bring thee back to any of them and they ask thy permission to come out (with thee) say "Never shall ye come out with me nor fight an enemy with me for ye preferred to sit inactive on the first occasion then sit ye (now) with those who lag behind."

Yusuf Ali Nor do thou ever pray for any of them that dies nor stand at his grave for they rejected Allah and His apostle and died in a state of perverse rebellion.
These verses command not to pray for the kind of people described.
It also can mean it is acceptable to pray for the righteous believers who have died.
Also the above verses are directly addressed to the prophet so I do not know how it will apply to us.
So we should not rush to conclusions about praying or not praying for someone who is dead without having complete knowledge on the issue.
I hope the learned members can enlighten us on this further.

In Saudi Arabia women need either written permission or to be accompanied by a male family member or husband in order to go out. But that's one minute country in a sea of muslims...
I actually think the part about praying and fasting and being a good wife to ur husband and maintaining dignity are all noble virtues to aspire to. i will always let my husband know where i'm going ... if he doesn't agree i will not fight him. he's my husband, my protector, my companion. i don't have any problem with that honestly. but of course in return there is a level of respect i demand from him that should not be disturbed. but i'm not married ;D
but when i am i see nothing wrong with listening to my husband's wishes, as long as he respects me and loves me then i will honor, respect and obey.

well yeah there's nothing wrong with listening, but does it apply for the husband too? does he have to ask his wife for permission to leave the house?
to me it seems that they don't treat women normally there(saudi arabia,pakistan...), it seems to me they treat women like slaves or possessions.and some make women cover themselves from head to feet, even the faces, why is that? then men should also cover themselves.

You hit it right on the head. You see to me it's all about respect. If they boss their women around because they don't value her as another adult human then there is a problem and turns into abuse. However, the way I view things, I'm a petite person. I can easily be physically overpowered and get hurt. That's just how my natural structure is and it's something I can't change. There will never be a time where I can physically be stronger than a man who wants to hurt me. Therefore, if my husband is my protector, he's telling me don't wear this or don't go there alone for my own safety and well-being. However, him being alot stronger and bigger built physically than I am, it would make no sense for me to do the same to him. Then I would be abusing him because I am using our relationship and our love to arbitrarily tell him what to do and what not to do for no reason but just that I can... that's not fair. Unless I too have a good reason why I don't want him to go some place it's not fair for me to say it. So it's only natural that he will wind up telling me how to dress in certain places or if I shouldn't go alone to certain places alot more than me telling him. In exchange for the love and protection and companionship he gives me I will not dishonor him. However, he has to respect me and honor me as well. If that is broken then the deal is off and it's better we go our separate ways than to hurt each other by humiliating each other - me with disrespect and him with treating me like an object.

Also as far as covering from head to toe ... unfortunately their culture is so stuck in this mentality that if a girl doesn't do it she'll get hurt. For example, if I was in saudi or pakistan and i decided to dress the way i like to dress in usa, i'm gonna get harrassed and quite possibly raped. Why? Because they are not used to seeing women dressing like that in the street. I'm a strong believer that the aya that has to do with modesty= the saying "when in Rome do as the Romans do". In other words, I as one foreign female cannot enter a country and insist on not wearing what everoyne else wears. I can, but that wouldn't be wise. So if my husband and i were to decide that it's best to live in saudi arabia, he can tell me at that time that i must dress like the rest of the women. This is for my own protection in a society that does not tolerate women and will most likely go crazy out of sexual frustration if they saw a woman like that.
Just as a side note, I saw a clip of a man in egypt who was on death row for raping a girl. They made an interview with him and he told them she was asking for it. Her clothes were as if she was naked anyway. "A girl like that deserves what she gets because she makes a man go crazy." Unfortunately, that's their mentality. So we must change their mentality before we risk our safety just out of "freedom of expression". In a country like that, I would make sure I don't dress in a way that would provoke trouble. At that point doing something out of principle is just plain foolish. That's my perspective.
