What really is Scientology?

Want to know opinion of people who know about this. I have been searching Google but the information is conflicting and not taking me anywere, apart from the teaching of Scientology of taking the soul back to total freedom.
Anybody know what really is the driving force of this religion? Is this another Mormon religion?

It is a moneygrubbing cult nothing else. Its basic ideas are a hodgepodge of Hubbards poor scifi and properbly occultism. Hubbart was mates with A. crowley, the force behing O.T.O.

I researched it awhile back and I agree its a wacky sci-fi based cult. Its ultimate aim however is to destroy christianity, its symbol is an 8 pointed Cross. Some have argued that L Ron Hubbard was a chrsistian with a different twist to its teachings but this is not true, the Cross with the x over it symbolizes what his true aim is, to cross out the cross, He thinks christianity is the most succesful delusion that prevents mankind from attaining the real truth, that we are descended from alien martians etc.

hubbard wrote a book called dianetics. in it he describes how there are "clear" people and abberant people. basically, everyone is abberant until they go through psychotherapy with a scientologist to become "clear". what does it mean to be clear? well, his theory is that everyone has "engrams", which are kinda like subconcious memories that develop in times of pain. the initial engram comes prenatally. i know this is kinda confusing, but lemme give an example. suppose you're in the womb, and your mother hit's her belly against the table, and the force goes to you. you feel pain and you're mind creates a memory of everything (an engram)... so say your mom, when she hits the table says "ugh! i hate my life", then you as the baby translate that to you hating your life. this shapes your personality- you become cynical or depressed or whatever. the purpose of the psychotherapy is to get rid of all the engrams, hence becoming "clear". i think that's why they believe in silent births. when the baby goes through the canal, he/she feels pain and whatever is being said in the delivery room becomes an engram. as people become clear, they become better people cuz they don't have negative engrams bogging them down. it's all really weird. sorry if i confused even more!

What you stated, although you were explaining scientology, that is the basis of ALL RELIGION. Those "engrams" are just the scientific explanation of our CONDITIONINGS that we must purify from the subconcious(nafs). The zakaat (purification and growth) that is achieved from salaat(reprogramming your subconscious) is the "clearing".
Of course, we dont come from Martians or anything like that, but behavior shaping IS a science, not a belief.

I heard that scientology is this branch of christianity where you join by giving them all that you possess and then they make all the doors open for you.
That's what i heard.
Also, once you join, they make you that you bring in the spouse, kids, ... you know everyone connected to you.

In order to be part of a context! As each word gets a meaning in a context, so the human life gets a meaning! if it has a context!
Human is constantly in search for that context , untill he finds out that the whole story is very simpleGET STRAIGHT FROM INSIDE! AND HE WILL REVEAL HIMSELF! THERE IS NO NEED TO SEARCH! YOU CAN NOT FIND HIM! HE FINDS YOU WHEN YOU COME SO FAR! THEN YOUR LIFE GETS A MEANING! GETS A MERIT!
Human has to go through lots of forms and following is the most comfortable form. EGO loves comfort. and agony of being a follower continues, till she comes to realise that the message is about her life and her being!
In real life a scientologist or a muslim, or a christian or a budist can be all followers of certain verbal thoughts! but what counts is the fact what their heart follows! So condemnation of one with respect to another is just on the aparant side! scientology makes me laugh, but could?nt one of those guys just be a better human than me? and if i believe that my own thoughts are so much better, then am i really a more grown soul? HUMILITY is the key!
When judging people let?s keep it by the book! The first that has not sinned, may throw the first stone!
Though i do not mind discovering more of the thought streams and their social backgrounds of real world.

On the "advanced" levels (called OT levels) above the state of "Clear" they encounter the story of Xenu. Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally. Many Scientologists go raving mad at this point if they have not done so already."

I gave this some more thought but the thing is. Im not against scientology. All cults get money from their members, scientology has just taken this practice into the 21th century and made it a business transaction like if youre buying milk. all cults have some pretty shady business models at the core of it, and all cults work at some level on deceit. But my point is, if the scientologer think he got his moneys worth, then who am i to complain?
My sister use fortunes on gucci etc...i think its crackpot to pay so much money for ugly clothes with a brand name, but she gets her money worth so she is happy.
My brother goes on the binge often with his mates, i think thats foolish, but he gets his moneys worth so he is happy.
My dad just bought a pen for the sum of 1000$. I think thats insane. But he got his moneys worth and is happy with the transaction.So if a scientologist pays money for lowlevel freudian psycho analysis mixed with a little scifi and guru meditation and think that he gets his moneys worth. Thats should be good enough for the rest of us. he is happy, why arent we?
The cult has casualites behing it. All cults have, and alcohol is by far a larger killer than anything else known, but i dont see anyone parading outside the booze factories because of the insanity of legalised and encouraged poison pushing. I dont see anyone mach outside mattel's buildings for barbie that damaged whole generations of girls self worth and properbly their health aswell as the plastic contains phlaphlalates that are a destroyer of hormones.
If you want to give your money away to hubbard.....great, i hope it works out for you. But my personal oppinion is that he was a liar, charlatan,fruitcake, insane mentally deranged and suffering from severe megalomania. So i dont want to give him money or listen to him for too long at a time.
