I always wondered why the quran never had anything regarding love relationships...
There are characteristics or qualities of love expressed, such as being merciful, patient, forgiving ... but love directly is never addressed... Can anyone weigh in on that?

Love as opposed to hate is that of EGO. It belongs to the workd of duality.
Love as divine passion arises when self-interest falls and there is interest without cause!
Keep looking at a beautiful flower regularly for a long time! One day you will see that you are in love! as Samia said , It graps you!

But what is beauty, it's in the observers eyes, right!?
And what one find is beautiful another one don't, it's a matter of taste.
There is a spouse for all, because we have so different kind of taste and that's amazing with us humans.
And we should remind us that love starts with attractions and in this first stage it's not pure love but rather a lust and or a temptations for more.
How many times I haven't found out that a nice looking guy is a big jerk, so it's not all about beauty but a mixture of different ingredients to form a solid LOVE.

In my experience, love of family/friends and love of one's spouse/future--spouse is the same thing with the obvious addition of physical attraction. In both cases, love is fueled by compassion and/or passion. When someone I love is in pain, then I am in pain. This is not a decision and it is truly unconditional. And this is far different from emotion because any emotion can be turned off with the right channeling of focus. But love cannot be ignored nor turned off nor turned on. Once you've tapped into it, it's always there.

I think love is a state, and i think it is the state of the universe. I think that that state is acceptance and allowance and appreciation, think about it, if the universe did not accept any of your choices then you would not exist nor would anyone else, for the seed cant flower with a foot atop its entrance.
There fore it is a state of being and not an emotion, but like all things, it is realized when experienced through the emotions. Being in the state of love then 'sets you up' to reception and connection with the universe, it is like installing satellite internet phoenix. D
I think that it starts with the mind, because the mind is like the cell wall surrounding our cells; it regulates what enters and leaves the cell, our mind regulates what enters and leaves our heart, if we are to caught up in lesser pursuits then of a sure it will be hinder our development of a blossoming heart.
And then when comes relationships of interaction, with family, friend and lover, those connections with those individuals become stronger. It is really it, think about what is symbolizeed when you are born here, the umbilical cord, your connection to your source of life(your mother)is severed at birth, thats the fall and connecting is the return.
