Drugs

Peace magi and all. Excellent post. I think we should just be very careful with medicine and drugs. Some people can have a smoke of weed and get irrational and intoxicated(same with alcohol, lsd etc..) while some get benefits from these substances. Alcohol can lead to car-crashes,violence etc..but also has medicinal and relaxant properties in some situations. So as in all things weigh up the benefits/risks and use your rationality to make an informed and responsible decision.
Peace all. -
hi enquirer,
in general, i'm against any intoxicant use too, especially when it risks other people's lives.
my husband smoked marijuana every once in a while (because he can't get it easily as it's illegal here in the US), it used to freak me out because i was so afraid that it would make him a drug addict or out of his mind and did something irrational. but, the more i learned about soft drug like marijuana, the more i understand that it's not as dangerous as people think. as a matter of fact, it's safer to your body than cigarettes are.
when he smoked marijuana, nothing really happened, he didn't turn violent or anything, he could still talk to me like normal.
he even used marijuana when he tried to quit smoking cigarettes, to get rid of the craving while the nicotine was still in his system. ever since, he doesn't smoke cigarettes anymore. -

Peace.Salam Enquirer,
Wow, that are a lot of questions and I don't know if I can answer them all. I'll try to answer some of it.
People here in Holland are most of the time very friendly and tolerant. It's very multicultural, especially in the big cities. After 9/11, the murder of the Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh and death threats by radical muslims directed to Dutch politicians the Dutch people seem very fearfull of muslims. But what's new? Almost everybody who has little knowledge of Islam seems to fear this religion.
I don't know much about politics. Maybe you can get some information here http//www.peaktalk.com/archives/000249.php and http//www.llrx.com/features/dutch2.htm#Legal%20System.
The morals and norms of the Dutch society are (I'm answering this question with the help of a friend wink ) solidarity, equality, protection of discrimination, freedom of speech, religion and education. Like most countries... so I hope I got that right.

I hope that I collected the needed information for you. My apologies for not answering all your questions.

I highly doubt the use of marijuana is forbidden. Marijuana does not at all cause remembrance of god to drift off. In fact it is quite the opposite. Marijuanais less dangerous than coffee or aspirin. It is more beneficial than harmful. I find it very hard to believe that cannabis is haram or even mukrooh (undesirable).
After all, cannabis use is a big part of Arabic culture (middle ages and ancient times). -
Peace all,
I live in Amsterdam and as you may know Amsterdam/The Netherlands is well known for it's official policy of tolerating small-scale sales and personal possession of cannabis.
My question is very simple what does the Quran tell us about drugs? Is it prohibited?
My apologies for bringing up a subject that might already have been discussed. I have been searching this forum to find an answer to my question, but unfortunately I couldn't find an answer. Hope that you guys can help.
Thanks.- Heart
Salam.

hello all,
In my opinion ganja does no harm rather it does benifit in some way. too much of smoking does make u slow but its not addictive. U can leave it anytime. I had phobia of aduinece during presentation during my university life. Once I did a presentation while stoned..LOL damn it was a good presentation and since than my phobia went off. It did develop my interpersonal and public relation skills. But for sometime I got caught up with it and was smoking everyday...that time I became slow as I was having a frustrating time.
In my opinion..you have to know how to use it. Abusing anything might lead u to harming urself.
Another thing..I have asthma...and I noticed weed never caused any problem for me but tobacco instantly triggers my asthma..!!
just my 2 cents...
peace

peace everyone
the evil men of the earth tell you drugs are cool through their tv,music, movies and make it illegal to benefit from the ones who sell it and press charges on them.
for those familiar with what is cocaine, the amounts that come in into countries are big,no scarface can do that, they need government support.
crack the cia, short film about drugs and the cia

I apologize in advance if a lot of what I say has already been said.
I wouldn't consider cannabis something relatively toxic to the user's health, so I don't know if I'd call it an "intoxicant". I've done a little research, and what I've found from a variety of mostly third-party studies, has already been stated what very little deficits there are, are completely outweighed by the benefits, smoking cannabis seems to be as unhealthy as something such as sitting too close to the TV. I've heard that, not only has cannabis been proven to encourage creative thinking, but can prevent mental disorders/deterioration, and has a chance of bolstering the user's immune system.
I don't think I would ever get into cigarettes, alcohol, or a variety of other intoxicants, but since I don't consider cannabis an intoxicant, I see little problem with indulging in it once in a while. I already engage in meditative techniques that produce a similar effect self-genereted as cannabis would, and from my research of The Message, I don't see any problems as of yet. Cannabis has been used in meditation and prayer among many peoples, providing very convincing examples that advocate such use such as that with the Rastafarian movement in Jamaica or Sufi Muslims in order to relax the body and mind and enhance lucidity, allowing the mind to expand, in a sort.
You can't just ignore whatever problems you may have, even if you try to ignore them, they'll always come back. I don't think getting high helps you ignore something else, if it's used at all, it should be used constructively, in prayer/meditation in a safe and controlled environment.
