Salam. sun
The Quran is a mercy to us, it is a way for us, The Quran shows us the way to Heaven.
You can carry Quran, you can keep it close to your bed when you sleep, you can keep it on the table while you eat, the thing that will get you into Paradise, is following it, you have to live according to The Quran.Peace. jedi

First of all I'm averse to drinking people's spit. Sometimes I'm averse to my own spit. If I've got spittle on my mouth or rub it on the back of my hand after rubbing it off of my lips than I find that sort of repulsive.
I'm not sure of the quran being a cure for physical ailments. In my opinion it heals our dispositions for when we are in the wrong we only hurt ourselves.

I believe in the power of the word and the energy that it transmits. There are numerous studies of the effects of classical music versus death metal music on plants. Even if you don't wanna get into the vibrational value of words, at a very simple basic level we all know that words have the power to calm, anger, please etc. Many words were invented by how an object feels.
Like kuH = cough in arabic ... kinda sounds like it doesn't it...So it is more than just words on a paper. I believe just saying actual words have a calming effect. And I also believe that that energy that I just exherted when I say the God's words of peace can be transmitted into things around me.
Now the spit thing i'm not too sure about but hey to each his own ;D

Peace Boost,
I believe in the power of the word and the energy that it transmits.
Me too. Have you read Masaru Emoto's books?
Even if you don't wanna get into the vibrational value of words...
I do...please share

Peace Tay,
I've read Emoto's books. They are quite interesting. That, in addition to the fact that in his latest series of experiments with water, he has chosen to use the 99 attributes of Allah. He (not a muslim) found the results so interesting and beautiful, that he is making a book of nothing but the pictures of the crystals that formed in water after coming in contact with each of the 99 attributes....

Yea i'm all about Emoto !
I've also read various studies over the internet of plants who are subjected to death metal versus classical and the latter seemed to grow faster healthier stronger )
Of course plants don't have ears so it's the vibration value of the music that makes the difference.
Emoto has done the same water test with different music and prayers too i believe... pretty cool stuff
Let us know your results if you ever try it! the experiment seems too complicated for me and i've never been good with microscopes hehehe
I'm gonna try and get a hold of some of the stuff i've read over the years and post them here ... i remember reading one specifically about the Fatiha ! it was pretty darn cool
i mean i think at a very personal level we've all experienced reading a passage from the quran and feeling a sense of enormous peace OR going into a room that two people were just fighting in and feeling a bad feeling or tension in your body. and water is a good energy transmitter so this is why i believe there is alot of truth to that. but its not just words being said there must be that deep concentration and intention and good energy being poured into the utterances of the word too. group
Anyways, i'll post some stuff up as soon as i can ...which might be awhile because im trying to cram torts into my wee lil head right now lol D

Peace,
There is no Qur'anic basis for such superstitious acts. The Qur'an has been revealed to be read/learned and understood. Its purpose is not so that it can be drunk or be blown over a glass of water for special healing powers.
These acts come not from a knowledge and understanding of the Qur'an, rather an ignorance thereof.
-
Peace to all,
Interesting topic, kinda agree with you ace but i dont see a problem with experimenting to learn as much as we can about subjects
Boost, I just wanted to ask you, are you in law school, you said your studying torts. I just started law school myself and am taking torts, just curious.

Salam,
Read Quran loudly over a glass of water, and give to drink to the afflicted individual ...
This is very common in Saudi and I guess the rest of the Arab and Muslim world. Also reading the Quran over bottles of olive oil and jars of honey!
Reading directly over the sick does have a healing benefits.. for example some skin rash that little children have on their legs, like round red very dry spots,, would disappear by reading Quran over them. The technic is to read a certain ayat of Quran over the spot while circling it with the tip of the index finger or by a twig! And the rash would stop growing larger and eventually disappear.Edited to add
I spoke to a wife of a "professional" Quran-reader healer (he makes his living from this job). And she told me that the bottles of water and olive oil and honey jars would be opened and blown with his breath over them while the Quran is being read. -

that's really interesting that the rash stops. Have you witnessed this? I drank water from one who fasted for a really long time and then meditated/salat for hours... he read the quran over water after that and gave it to me. i'd actually like to try it myself but i guess when my mind is clear so i can really concentrate properly.

I did witness the rash disappear. (Only in little children that I see this kind of rash, btw). But I never drank read-over water. How did you feel after you drank the water the man gave to you?

He told me I'd be protected from malicious harm, which i definitely was! i've had a variation of this done with a nigerian sheikh that made a prayer with me.. it was really long and touching.. then he wrote some words from the quran down that was derived from the prayer we did and he wrapped it up really tight for me to carry to sort of remind me of those words. he kept reaffirming his intentions as he was wrapping it which according to my own beliefs enforced the positive energy.. i still carry it it definitely means alot to me. Not the paper itself but the memory of that day and all the good that came out of it along with the words and the meaning of those words that are wrapped up in that little paper.
-
Peace BOOST,
I wouldnot go this far! You see, here, we are warned, since we were little, to stay away from people who write these tiny papers, locally, such paper is called Jam3ah, or Hijab, no matter how religious these men looked! The shaikh that people would go to is someone who would read certain Ayat, loud and clear, and also point them to you, so that you, yourself, can read them upon yourself and even tell others about them. If you like,, I can point some ayat to you.

Peace TAJ
Yes someone told me that its black magic or something but i think it only becomes bad when you believe that something you're carrying or something you drank has the power to protect you. this is shirk. if you keep in your mind what it really is and that only the Creator has the Power to protect us, then it remains just a paper to remind you of that day and of that prayer.
Same as drinking water, the water is not what did it or the person who said the words. The God gave His Words a higher and pure vibration than other words and the transmittance of good positive energy from person A to person B is what is helping. Objects are all objective - a clean slate. We make them our idols if that is what we choose to do with them but they are innocent of those lies.
I don't know what this Jam3ah or Hijab is exactly but if it is like what i received from the sheikh, i believe you are right - it could be very dangerous. People are prone to shirk and if it is not made perfectly clear to a person who is already at a certain level of understanding of deen, it could turn into the work of the devil instead of a positive and good thing. People who are ritualistic and "blind-faith" attitude about their deen could be very very easily lead astray with this practice.
But for me, he made it absolutely clear what the purpose of this object is (a token of memory to keep the heart constantly in a state of that prayer whenever the eye sees it or the mind remembers that i have it) and that to the God belongs all Power. But yes, it is dangerous indeed if people don't understand what they're doing.
I am more than anxious to hear from you what ayat they use! Thanks in advance D

Peace,
It is important to bear in mind that all healing comes from Allah alone. What is the basis for blowing over glass of water after having recited the Qur'an and drinking it as a medication? Has Allah recommended this in the Qur'an Himself? The answer is surely 'no'.
Then what is the basis for this practice? The only basis for this is 'human emotions'. 'Human emotions' of those who say they believe in the Qur'an, but have no true grasp of its contents - those whose knowledge and appreciation of the Qur'an merely goes beyond the notion of it being 'the book of Allah in Arabic'. This ignorance of the Qur'an motivates superstitious acts, such as blowing over drinking water after a recitation of the Qur'an, or blowing over ones body after Qur'anic recitation. This I believe, is the origin of such practice.
If you noticed any improvement in your health after drinking water blown over after Qur'an recitation, or anything as such, then this improvement in your health is from Allah, and only Allah knows why He has improved your health. I do not believe this is sufficient reason to believe doing such acts is some sort of a Holy means by which to get cured, as it is not approved by the Qur'an. Sincere salah and/or du'a is more suited for believers in seeking Allah's assistance.
Assalamu alaikum. )

Peace Ace,
I do not believe this is sufficient reason to believe doing such acts is some sort of a Holy means by which to get cured, as it is not approved by the Qur'an.
Belief is a powerful thing. If someone believes it helps, why not leave it at that?
While I understand and agree that people should be careful when adopting superstition as a means to an end, I also try to keep an open mind with these sorts of topics because what we think we know is truly very little in regards to the core energies that motor what we call life.
Acupuncture is not approved by the qur'an.
Chiropractic care is not approved by the qur'an.
Healing pets are not approved by the qur'an.Yet, all 3 examples have been proven to help heal people.
Dr. Emoto's work has proven that just positive words can change the structure of water molecules. And we are mostly water. I think there might be something there that we're just scratching the surface on.
Peace,
Tay
