Ah! So That's Why!
-
Hello everyone. I recently converted to Islam. When I read the Koran for the first time, I took notice of how often we are reminded that the Koran is perfect. So much so, I'll admit that after a while I found it annoying. I'd smack my forehead and moan silently, "Yes, yes. The Koran is perfect. I. Get. It. Why does this need to be repeated every ten minutes?"
Then I discovered hadiths, and it was all too clear why that message needed repeating. Because even after being told a zillion times that the Koran is perfect, some people still don't get it. brickwall
Thank you for making this website and forum. It's been very helpful to me. ;D

Welcome to the forum Heather

I certainly need constant reminding in order to keep pace and on track.
I understand what you mean. -[ I hope nobody takes offense to my words of irritation over that repeated message. It's because God already knows what's in our hearts that I don't hold anything back when I speak to him. But I do know that if God repeats something to us several times, he must have a very good reason for it!

Salaam Heather,

Great to have you here Heather,, any thing you contribute is welcomed, IM also a recent convert to Islam, I felt the same way as you did in the beginning thinking I didnt know enough and couldnt contribute but after awhile you will fit right in. There are many very good and intelligent people here, and if you say something they dont agree with they will tell you, in the end it usually works out for the better,,
So welcome Heather, hope to become friends,

please contribute any ideas or questions or comments you have Heather. Don't worry about it being "unislamic" or anything. I'm sure that even though you just discovered the quran, you must know a lot. You probably learned things from your experiences and we'd like to hear what you think. BTW, welcome! -

Peace Heather,
Welcome to the forum welcome
You might find the following helpful in your quest to study and understand islam
One should not accept anything as truth unless one has critically examined it in the light of qur'aan, logic and reason and has done one's own personal research. One should be very careful and not take EVERYTHING from a certain website as the truth unless one has verified it for oneself. The best way to verify is to try to learn the language of the qur'aan, along with considering the context of verses in the qur'aan and cross referencing with verses on similar topics and finding out how the qur'aan itself defines a word used in it by finding out all the occurrences of that word and its context.
Following are some of the websites and tools and articles I have found useful in the search for the truth (the same critical examination and personal research applies to all these websites/articles too)

Welcome to the forums! I am not a Muslim, but a Baha'i.
But Assalaamu Alaikum! and Allah-u-Abha! (God is the Most Glorious)
However, I came on this site to know more about the Glorious Qur'an and know it in its spiritual than literal meanings, free from the sectarian dogmatism of Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Wahhabi and other thoughts. Although I am a Baha'i, I still have problems accepting hadiths, because of the multitude of them and how the Qur'an is 'complete' and free from extra-Qur'anic sources. The hadiths are used to 'prophecy' Lord Baha'u'llah's coming, but I believe that the Qur'an alone is sufficient instead.
We don't need extra-Qur'anic sources to understand the Qur'an, nor do we need extra-Biblical sources for the Bible, nor extra-Tanakh resources for the Tanakh! God's Words are perfect and without blemish, and to abuse and pervert the true meanings of God is to pervert God Emself.
"O my friend, were the bird of thy mind to explore the heavens of the Revelation of the Qur?an, were it to contemplate the realm of divine knowledge unfolded therein, thou wouldst assuredly find unnumbered doors of knowledge set open before thee. Thou wouldst certainly recognize that all these things which have in this day hindered this people from attaining the shores of the ocean of eternal grace, the same things in the Muhammadan Dispensation prevented the people of that age from recognizing that divine Luminary, and from testifying to His truth."
- Lord Baha'u'llah, the Baha'i Writings (Kitab-i-Iqan)
I hope you like it here, and that it will deepen your understanding of following the Qur'an alone for God. )
Kevyn.
