Today I Cried Over the Quran, What I Wish
-
As Salaam Alaikum,
As I am typing this I am crying. I am crying because of stress and how though I have knowledge, I really have such little knowledge.I wish that there was a Quran translation for non-arabic speakers that actually included arabic words when being read.
And what I mean by that are major words/concepts that Muslim love to stress over.
Such as "salat", "hadith", "sunnah", "zakat", "Muslim", "Mumin".
Etc.
As I try to become a better person, follow the straight path, and be righteous I become even sadder and sadder. I swear I wish that I knew arabic.
Are there any english translations out there like this?
thanks

salam,
Try www.emuslim.com 's word-for-word translation.
As for knowledge, i personally read the quran from the beginning towards the end rather than jumping here and there looking for one issue/topic.
Take one thing at a time. If salat issue is not revealed fully to you yet, then don't be sad, just follow what is revealed to you gradually. One step at a time. Don't be haste, be patient, because it might be better for you that things are revealed one at a time. A good believer is one who is patient.
peace.

Peace "ibeleiveinitonly",
Please dont be sad and BE HAPPY, BE EXTREMELY HAPPY THAT YOU DONT KNOW MODERN ARABIC. Current Arabic is polluted with sectarian bias which makes it all the more difficult to see the truth. e.g. take th word "daraba". Ask any arab and he/shell tell you it means "to beat". However if you view the meanings ofit's root youll find other meanings and if you then insert those in the context of the Quran youll see that the meaning "seprate/part" makes perfect sense. The Arabs so arrogantly think they hold the key to understand the Quran WHILST THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE. They may have some grammatical advantage but on the other hand the bias gives them a great disadvantage. Your brain is fresh. Never start learning arabic from traditional arabs. Learn it via unbiased dictionaries. You can learn all online from various unbiased sources. Consider it a blessing. I do too. Here.

I thank GOD for not being born into an Arab society filling my brain with bias. ) GOD Bless! -
Wa Alaikum As Salaam,
We are always here to help if there are any verses you want to discuss etc. Start learning some Arabic and you will be God Willing suprised at how "structured" the language is and really once you know the basic grammer then you just have to start filling in the meanings of the root words kind of like a jigsaw puzzle.
So I suggest doing it in this order
Start learning how to read Arabic.http//www.amazon.com/Arabic-Alphabet-How-Read-Write/dp/0818404302
Then start learning how to read "quranic" arabic which has a little bit more to remember. I learnt this when I used to go to the mosque maybe there are some free lessons where you live?
After that you should be able to start "learning" the true language of the Quran. Studyquran.org links to some great resources such as textinmotion.com
But I find reading from books more enjoyable and because my Arabic is weak I sometimes refer to the following book to find out the exact word I want to look up
http//www.dar-us-salam.com/store/main.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Q11&Category_Code=BT
And this book is useful as a dictionary
http//www.amazon.com/Dictionary-Quran-Second-Abdul-Mannan/dp/0963206788
The translations are not too bad, its just a few words like you said Salat, Hadith etc. I still advice learning basic Arabic because I always had a nagging doubt about translations until I started learning it. Now I don't mind using any decent translation and can check words that I am in doubt over.
I hope this helps. Start learning and God willing within a year you will not have this frustration any longer.

Salam iblieveintionly. True knowledge of the Quran is with Allah alone.
The words you have posted, asking for definitions, do not have actual English equivalents. The Quran says, iqra bi ismi rabbika, say in the name of your Lord.
Hear the Quran the same as Muhammad heard the Quran. Go to www.reciter.org and listen, keep listening, again and again. Then say the words, again and again.
If Allah can teach an ummi/illiterate person the Quran by speaking the words to him. Then Allah can teach you the same.Allah is the best teacher.

salaam
if i may... indeed, i have been there before, only to discover that it is as easy as talking out loud, so to speak, but only to God. yes. implore Him for the honorable guidance. talk. talk. yes, talk to Him. beg Him, if you may. yes, i stumbled upon these verses (please ponder my personal comprehension without prejudice)
396
396 Verily most important, meditation is devised for people, for those who frequently weep for blessings, and guidance, for comprehension.397
397 Therein are clear signs on Ibrahims position, and whoever participates in it is at peace, and on man, God persuades on meditations on whoever is in a position to take upon himself a path to Him, but whoever is ungrateful, thus verily God is a personal comprehension.for some insights on the methods, perhaps this might help. make an appointment with God (surah 73), for ten nights (surah 89) continuously or with intervals. insha-Allah you will experience al-qadr (97). insha-Allah. try to grasp the true meaning of 736. in my comprehension it is 'Verily what comes into existence at night is an intensely internal and more accurate speech'. listen to the voice within. ignore the external voices. no matter how attractive is the external voices, simply ignore them. sometimes the meditation is enjoyable, sometimes not. sometimes you feel cold, sometimes warm (al-quraish). please preservere. you are having an appointment with God (remember that Musa had an appointment for 40 nights!). keep your mind focussed that you are having an appointment with Him. acknowledge, and respect His status as the Creator (khaliq), the Lord (rabb), the Wise, the Reference (for guidance, esp.), etc. but, don't think or follow your 'trains of thoughts.' when you think, you exist. when you don't think, you don't exist. you are immersing your self in God's status. please consider.
do it in whatever position that pleases you. do it standing, sitting crossed leg, sit on a sofa, while pacing the room, etc., but make sure there is no distraction in the room. you are having an appointment with God. remember that. have some respect for God.
do it slowly. patiently. 'ista'inu bissabri wassalati'. you are refering to Him for recourse (help, succor, understanding, favour, forgiveness, etc.). say your thanks. be grateful to Him for whatever blessing you have received from Him. be grateful. be thankful.
ask, and empty your mind. concentrate on your heart - make sure it is calm. make sure it is calm. feel the calmness. feel the tranquility. as long as you don't think, you don't exist.
yes. insha-Allah, God will guide you on the honourable path.
insha-Allah, He will speak to you. insha-Allah. He will speak to you in a language that you are familiar with. in the language that you ask Him. (perhaps by now you can comprehend why al-Qur'an is in arabic. prophet muhammad asked God in arabic.)
btw, if you see anything, no matter how grim, weird, frightening, or attractive, just ignore them. remember, you are not searching for them. you are having an appointment with God. remember God. calm your heart. calm your heart. insha-Allah. don't worry, you are with God. what can be so frightening, or dangerous, or harmful, when you are with God. thus be calm. be calm. remember God. you are having an appointment with Him.
and do it for ten nights. insha-Allah. yes, insha-Allah, God will guide you on the honourable path. God will speak to you.
when God has spoken, be careful to listen attentively. you'll know it, when you experience it. i cannot tell you what will happen. i do not know. to each, his own. if possible, write down the message, or reprimand. yes. most of them are reprimands. (by now you perhaps could comprehend why there are God's reprimands for prophet muhammad in al-qur'an. and that's one of the most excellent attributes of the prophet - he even related the personal reprimands.)
but, you cannot reveal what you have received just yet. not yet. not until you are dead sure of what you have received is the truth. keep it in mind for a while. ask God the next night, if you may. keep it to your self. sometimes you are troubled by the idea, principle, or message. keep calm. keep calm. ask God. (perhaps by now you may comprehend why this idea on meditation is so strange.)
at other times, perhaps without you even meditating, you may receive some enlightenment, an idea, an inspiration, etc., when you have never asked for it. be careful. you have to meditate until it is clear in your mind.
but never ever be prejudiced. do not guess. do not try to unravel. just ask, and wait with an empty mind, or open mind. insha-Allah, you will receive a comprehension.
and when you are sure, you have to tell. you have to speak to the people in detail, as God has spoken to you in detail.
i suppose it is enough for now. if you have personal experiences to ask or share, email me please. usually we do it face-to-face, and this is the first time i'm putting this writing public. hopefully it helps.
to those doing popular meditations, a slight readjustment should suffice. instead of concentrating on colors, energies, etc., concentrate on God. if i may suggest, make an appointment with God. not with those energies or colors. they are just creations of God.
peace

salaam
this simple exercise should help. insha-Allah.
- read the above, again. say to yourself that you do not know about it. say that only God knows. only God knows. only God knows.
- when you are at peace, can feel the peace in your heart, and the mind is empty, ask this question "Dear God, is this guy joe betik really telling the truth?" yes. ask Him.
- then, continue doing your usual work. whenever you remember any of the ideas written in the above post, keep asking God. ask the same question "Dear God, is this guy joe betik really telling the truth? if he is not telling the truth, what is then the truth?" ask Him. be an idiot in the eyes of God, because He has the Knowledgeable. that's one of the differences between God and man. insha-Allah.
insha-Allah, God will guide you.
He will guide on the need-to-know basis. the time is His, so do not be in a hurry. He knows how sincere you are in begging Him for an answer, or a guidance.
but, remember the caution - without prejudice. read al-Qur'an without prejudice. if you have had any opinions concluded, please ask God for forgiveness. He will not guide anyone who has made a conclusion. thus if you have done so, ask for forgiveness. ask for His guidance. insha-Allah. He will forgive you. ask Him to restore His grace to you. insha-Allah He will.
peace!
