Salaams... just had a question if something is "right" or not... musical delama

peace....
I have a question... is this right?
i am at a place where i'm questioning if "something" is right or wrong. and the problem is the only way i can share that "something" with you, is to actually do it!
the question is if i actually do it then what if it's wrong?
so i have to think what the immediate consequence(sp?!) is?
please no worries... i'm not talking about anything horrible.. just music... and that's it! that's the question.. is music wrong? is it wrong to mess with someone's music? why do some believe music is wrong? etc...
so here's the root... i have a track that was sent to me by someone of a vocoalist... who i'm told is of a very famous islamic vocalist who possibly might believe that music is haram... and i want to know if it's wrong to put music to it? and you see the only way i can see this to understand, i feel i aught to ask others who i have a good thought of... what they think?
the problem.... is i feel the only way to fairly understand is to listen ... but if i show you... then will i be commiting something that could.. .aught... or just might end up the wrong someTHING to do?!
no worries... if not..
peace...

Peace Mehdi,
Are you asking about 'rights'? Is the vocalist aware you have his tape, or has the vocalist given you permission to use his voice? Is that the question? In other words, putting aside the religious aspect for a moment, do you have a problem with using someone else's voice or music to create your own?... without seeking permission that is.
Unless if I didn't understand your question, please clarify.
Thanks

thanks Z.... this is of course a part of it... the rights.. the wrongs... i was sent this cd.. from a sister in new york who was giving out cds on a site.. it was of nasheeds.. so i asked her to send one.. and she did.. however on the cd it only says islamic nasheeds... i chased down the vocalist a while back when i recieved this disk from the sis... back two to three years ago... and his "image" blew me away as to mean.. "unreachable" if you know what i mean... i sent an email a while back but recieved nothing form his site.. but the music you see.. i feel good about.. so the question continues 1. is it even worthy of anothes standard to add or subtract from anothers art?
peace....

Peace M,
I think in times of doubt, it boils down to intention. If your intention is pure, then you should have nothing to fear. I've always viewed art in any form as a gift from God, one that we discover within ourselves as opposed to create from ourselves. So, in reality, we are all borrowing from God, hence, considering it as borrowing from one another is adhering to artificial boundaries.

Peace,
There is no restriction on music or instruments in the Quran. Only on foul language and that it should not be used to create an enviroment where indecent movements will occur where multiple people are present. In my eyes these are the 2 criteria points for me. All the Sunni-restrictions on music are not based on logic but blind religious rules that have no function.

salam, and thank you all for your replies..
Tay, my intention is simple.. i like the way the marriage of both came out and simply wanted to post it for free download on our site.. i do not intend to make money.. or plan to sell it.. etc.. have you heard of creative commons?
http//creativecommons.org/I agree with you about art being from God and that those who "create" it are only merely channeling it... it does not belong to anyone of us... but the whole... and for those who choose or can channel it.. if i'm not wrong, much like some of the ideas presented by brother Yasin's in his essay titled "A Scientific Approach To Afterlife", are in tune with that which is already there...
it also does not mean those who are or have been given the gift of such talents to be holy or even whole as human beings... this is where intentions become a thing that tread slippery grounds ... the nasheed singer i'm talking about above is... Ahmed Bukhatir .. as said earlier.. i've sent an email to his site.. but have not recieved a reply.. this was a while ago.. and i'm pretty sure i'm done waiting..
if this person does not believe music to be ok.. good or whatever.. perhaps my wife's suggestion of not using his part simply out of respect for the beliefs of another.. would be a good way to go...
but if the question is simply music.. (remember we're not shooting anyone here... it's "just music" then.. is would it be not right to do it?
Brother Arnold Yasin.. I agree with you that there is "no restriction on music or instruments in the Quran" and that, "All the Sunni-restrictions on music are not based on logic" ... but does this give me a green light to freely mix the way of thought and art form of another who possibly lives on "blind religious rules that have no function"? I say possibly because i've simply not had the chance to talk to him personaly to know better..
& Alen, yes it is true that in the Quran it does say Trumpets will be sounded... as in 673
Thank you all again for your replies.. i know this topic is something of a trite matter for some.. jedi

PEace Bro Mehdi
I suggest you clear it with the vocalist or his publisher, for legal reasons. If it's not copyrighted, you're fine.
-
Salam and thank you Boost. It's looking like it's headed that way. I'm more leaning that way simply because perhaps the vocalist might be offended that "music" is added to his vocals. Legal reasons in music usually work in funny ways. If people didn't reuse culture, there probably wouldn't be any hip hop today...
thanks much for your input.. it's appreciated!
i left a link for creative commons above.. here is a decent essay by negative land on "fair use"

food for thought.. peace..
