Peace,
In a recent debate I realised that perhaps our understanding of the dietary prohibitions was flawed. I for one had read the Quran's admonition to not eat of anything "dedicated to other than God" and taken it to mean that anything not expressly dedicated to another deity was OK.
Therefore I took it to mean that meat that is dedicated to some other deity - as some sects/religions might - is clearly and manifestly haram.
But here is the real question...
Think for a moment on what "other than God" might actually mean logically. If meat is NOT DEDICATED TO God, is it not then DEDICATED TO OTHER THAN GOD??
Which means then that meat for consumption must be expressly dedicated to God.
Think about it and discuss please.
Peace.
